hey BID first of all much respect to you... I have a question, on this journal, I see that you started out with 400 watt metal halide bulb in a bat wing reflector powered by a i-power digital/dimmable ballast for veg. & a 600watt hps in a bat wing, powered by a jd lightings 600watt ballast, digital dimmable, but some where on this journal you switched up the equipment... what kind of setup do you have now? .. thx

no you pretty much have it, a month or 2 ago i added a vented reflector hood to one of the jd ballasts in the main tent along with a 6 inch carbon scrubber and inline fan, its all pictured throughout this journal and in my picture gallery
i still have all the equipment and use it depending on what im doing, im glad to hear this journal has been helpful to you that's one of the main reasons i do it, and to learn, share, help,
if you want a rundown on what gear i have in play right now well here ya go....(takes big deep breath)
2 tents going both in flower 4 plants in each
tent 1 4x5x2
scrog 1 each chemdog, whitewidow X big bud, purple power, widow bomb in 3 & 4 gallon fabric smart pots, in coco/soil mix bout 50/50 with pearlite, feeding blue planet nutrients 7 part farmers pride organics
light=400watt hps i-power digital ballast,batwing,hortilife55k lumen 2100k super hps bulb, 4inch carbon scrubber & inline exhaust fan w/ speed controller
on cheap homie d timers ,10 hour lights on cycle.
tent 2= 4x2.5x7 oracle garden supply tent, 4 plants 1 each blue cheese, bubbleicious, blue mystic, herujuana jack-33 defol and supercropped,
lights are 1 600watt jd lightings digital dimmable with 110% setting htg supply 95k lumen enhanced blue super hps bulb ,oracle supply mass air6 air cooled hood 6 inch oracle inline fan and carbon scrubber, w/fan speed controller on oracle gs dual output 20 amp timer & standing vertically 1 oracle gargen supply 4x2 6bulb t5 6500k T5 fixture 30k lumens,(also on oracle timer) 1 42 watt repti glo 10.1 uvb cfl bulb for enhanced resin production,
all are in 1 gallon coco hempy pots feed same nutrient line,
thats whats in use now, i have a second jdl 600watt ballast ,couple batwings a 2x3x6 tent,an aerocloner, various dwc bubble buckets, pumps, timers, a 600watt 55k lumen 6500k mh bulb, several more hps and mh bulbs in the 400watt range a couple totes full of all sorts of cfl bulbs and light fixtures, i figured out if i set it all up in 1 room i could do a 10 or 12 foot square 2500watt grow lol but alas i simply dont have a big enough space at my disposal, some day i will get to do a couple big monster plants mr smith/heath robinson style, but till then i just work on getting the most out of my little tents, after all im only growing for myself and spiffy its not like i need a giant harvest i would just end up having to donate most of it to a dispensary or co-op

Any concrete feelings on what the UVB bulbs are doing for you? Difference in high, potency, yield? You think they are making a difference? Sorry if I missed this earlier in the journal. Hope you have a great turkey day, BID! :high-five:

Re: B.I.D. 3.0 Video Grow - Blue Planet Nutrients - JDL600 - Coco - GLR - 400WMH - Te

definatly increases the potency! the first chemdog ( a clone of the second one) i harvested is great taste potency etc but the second that got over 3 weeks under the uvb will knock your dick in the dirt!! i cant have more than 2 puffs or im miserably stoned and cant function, where as the first one i can have 4-5 before i feel that way, spiffy got them mixed up one night and smoked 6 bongrips of the uvb bud and was freaking out having a panic attack and had to come sit by me so i could help her not fall off the bed (she was laying down) but felt like she was gonna slide off the bed lol, my brother (a total heavy duty smoker) wont touch the stuff if he has anything to do he says its like goodbye to the day your done sit down and enjoy the ride! so yes i can say with certainty uvb does increase potency, as for other factors well yes it did seem to make it more aromatic and stickier but a word of caution it can and will burn the buds if it gets to close, back a few pages i posted pics of a blue caramel that got to close and cooked some leaves!

heya bid, im fashionably late again ;)

on the matter of autos and pots. are you going to be growing type 1 or 2 autos (short and fast or 100 day beasts)?

with the big ones i reccomend same pots at a reg plant. but for type 1 fast autos i reccomend half the size.

you have like 60 days in order to grow roots/veg and flower and you need to be more in control of when it does what...by using a smaller pot (air pot for auto pruning) it focuses less on root structure and more building above ground.

for a typical fast auto i HIGHLY reccomend 2l bottles. 1/3 ballast at the botttom for drainage and go hempie =D

i just harvested my sweet fast no2's and they were in i think 3 or 4 litre pots and none of them filled the pots. now bear in mind my soil was a disaster, it was a mix of westlands 4month+(which is too hot for our plants) and some old soil with all the nutrients eaten already. so they may have done better in good soil.

ill know with this new grow as im using pure organic soil with a 20% perlite mix...should be lots of food all even in this one,

Re: B.I.D. 3.0 Video Grow - Blue Planet Nutrients - JDL600 - Coco - GLR - 400WMH - Te

hmm see based on the last batch of autos i did in 2&3 liter bottle hempies coco50% soil 40% the rest was worm castings ,pearlite etc, i was basically pot bound , i was thinking about putting like 5 in a long window sill pot,it holds about as as much medium as 6 2 gallon smart pots ,so lots of room for them, i have done almost all my autos in 2l hempys, started in red solos, i want to skip the transplant this time and avoid any trans shock/slowdown i was thinking larger containers, after what you said im thinking i will try a few different things, a smartpot or 2 the window box,a 1.5gal square and a couple 3liter hempys, i think i have a 1 gallon hempy (a crystal gyser water bottle, just trying to find the right one for the autos i run (type 1 60-70 day) i run himalaya blue diesel, cream caramel auto, super auto sativa, and this time im running 4 auto assassins (basically an auto ak47) and some crosses of mi5 and cca, i figured with the big box they can run roots all over without getting cramped, i have had good results with several plants in one container in the past with 12/12 from seed, since they wont be in there more than9 10 weeks
but and heres a big BUT! these are not feminized except 1 sas, so i cant do the big box due to the fact that there will be males this time! i plan on keeping males for pollen with the assassin in particular, i want more seeds from that strain,,,,SHIT! ok rethink ,better go with hempys and smartpots.... ugh

Re: B.I.D. 3.0 Video Grow - Blue Planet Nutrients - JDL600 - Coco - GLR - 400WMH - Te

guess that was a lot of thinking outloud err out text? whatever, guess i'll wait n do my berry bombs in the windowbox box in the scrog tent or damn those are reg seed too, hmmm ok when i have 4-5 sexed females i'll try the big box, but soon damn it soon, i do have a batch of clones that will be needing permanent homes after some veg time, im planning on doing a BIG blue cheese in the big airpot ,and a big something in some 4-5 gallon smartpots i have yet to use

no no that was a good little rant and it helps me clarify. the root bound thing is exactly what im talking about...the part i forgot to mention is that i convert ALL my post to air/smart. my 2l bottles have over 60 holes in them. so i dont get root bound, the roots fill out the maximum they can and then auto prune and then more growth is directed at the plant, the trick is the plant getting the message that it cant root no more....roots going rootbound are still technically free growing at their own pace until they choke themselves, this is all bad for small autos.

we are on the same track tho mate. 2-3l but breathable for root pruning.

htg supply 95k lumen enhanced blue super hps bulb ,

Hey BID,

I just purchased one of those, you like it?

I am probably going to use it for veg also since my MHconv bulb crapped out.

its my favorite flower hps by far, for veg i think its to yellow and your likely to get alot of stretch, i say t5 ,cfl or mh is best, but its made the hardest nugs i have seen yet, outperformed my eye hortilux and a third the price!

Re: B.I.D. 3.0 Video Grow - Blue Planet Nutrients - JDL600 - Coco - GLR - 400WMH - Te

Congrats and hooray on getting your motherboard and getting your bad azz PC back together again :) I know the feeling of having it down and having to wait for parts but happy that the replacement came quick!

I use the 5 gallon smart pots and I think I may try to fit some 7 gallon ones in the tent but still undecided on the upgrade. The one thing I noticed since using the smart pots was very very small fiberous roots everywhere and no circling :) So far I like the product and I was checking out there website and they have wall/fence hanging smarpots, i was thinking Hmm would be really nice for a vertical grow :)

The 5 gallon ones definitely have grown some nice 4+ foot scrogged out plants and definitely withstood the cycle, but I usually start mine off in the 3 gallon plastics to get a good rootball, score the roots on transplant, and watch them love the new soil.. I swear I can almost sense the plants thank me for the new soil :)
