Icemud's Organic SCROG! Grow 3.0

Hey ICEMUD,
Damn those buds are looking nice mate.. Youre gunna have some mad smoke bro:thumb: See if i set up my screen like urs before i grew, id copy your setup basically.. But my girl was only meant for LST but has kinda turned scrogXlst by herself! Using a similar principal as removing lower fans, branches etc below the screen: with Cindys grow, some of the first growths have started yellowing as they get no light and are essentially dying, so i was thinking of trimming em off, there s only a couple.. So given the similar situation where some growth below the top canopy is removed cos it wont get much light, can i take a few leaves from the bottom that are touching the soil, and slowly dying- i want them off the ground-the shoots from between them and the stem are well grown, so i cant see any harm?? That way, ill have her branches at her base exposed some so i can see clearly underneath her, only an inch or so above the soil, and then her canopy will be in a more consistant shape, with main stem visible and growth off the ground.. There s only few that are touching soil, and are low down on the plant..
I hope to have her close to final positioning branch wise, in next few weeks.. I dont want her to grow out much more as she is fine, i want her height to continue, after re tethering her last night her tops have grown nearly 2 cm height which is good.
I hope i have some buds like urs in a few months !!:bravo:
Chat soon, Smokem..

The Blackberry Kush looks phenomenally frosty. Dayum!

There is still lots of good medicine in that garden.

again ice im gonna need some "alone" time with the girls price ya have to pay for growing so well,,lol i have the same budset spray but it sez cytokinnins or something i researched it some its some flower boosting horomone stuff made from corn i tested on my indoor tomatoes they exploded 2days after both times ,cannabis growers do use it to beef up buds its 100%organic and made from corn, and i heard calcium nitrate 2 weeks before harvest makes them really pack on the weight too, one guy tested the spray on 2 identical clones and got 15more dry grams on the sprayed plant vs unsprayed they looked fatter too, so im fixin on spraying the chemdog and wwxbb to see what happens after seeing what it did to my maters all the growth and many more flower clusters im sold on it working just need to see it on cannabis, it looks like you found some good meds for your meds:thumb: hooray for plant tech! 3 cheers for horomones! hip hip hhooray!

I also bought some of the Budset spray and will incorporate it next run. Probably onece a bit after stretch and around the 4th week of flower. I typically add calcium via some ground up vitamin pills at that time also.

Day 73 Flowering...

So today I decided to pull down my other platinum Bubba since the Pm wasn't going away and it didn't seem to really be growing much anymore with all the damage that had happened to it throughout the grow... So I cut all but the very lower buds, with hopes that if I give them another week or 2 I may get some healthyer harvests out of them ?? if not, oh well cause its just the popcorn nugs...

So after trimming the buds, I weighed them and the wet weight was 153.5grams which overall wasn't horrible, but still pretty shabby for what this plant could have been capable of without all the problems...When trimming I noticed yet another problem that I didn't notices....thrips.!!!! quite a few of them which to me is a shocker because I didn't see any thrip poop until just 2 days ago and didn't see any around the plants... man they are tiny!!! takes a really good eye to spot them... anyways after trimming each bud I gave it a good shake to knock off any thrips in the buds and gave them a quick dunk into 8.4ph tap water to help kill off the PM as well as wash away any other thrips/sprays or other things on the buds..I set them out in front of a fan for a few hours, then hung them in my drying box...

It took forever to trim all the dead leaf material off these ones, but overall there seems to be some good nugs still in there. Also with this plant, not all of the cola's got pm, so there may be a few that are actually a good smoke. I tried a water cure last time which did nothing for getting rid of the PM so I decided this time just to dunk them, hang dry them, and see what happens...

Because of the thrips I decided to mix up some tap water with just a little garlic powder and spray my girls to help push away the thrips, being that I read that they don't like garlic.. I also added a slight amount of baking soda to help kill off any PM spores floating around the tent still. Hopefully this will get me by until harvest.

My silverback og has turned all brown as far as the leaves, but the buds are still bright green and growing, but for some reason all the leaves just have died.... i tested the ppm of the soil runoff the other day and it was only at 1100ppm which is pretty low, so it may be lack of nutrients in the soil (used them up), or it could be some other unknown??? the soil ph also is sitting right in the 6.7 zone so that should be fine, a little high, but still within a good range.. I am going to see what happens but she may be coming down soon if she decides to get worse...

My faithful blackberry kush is the only one that turned out great!! so far no issues what so ever... hopefully she stays this way for another week or 2 until she comes down... :)

Well here are a couple photo's of the buds hangdrying..

sounds like you got a pretty good plan going :) What I have found with Scrog's and defoliation is after the stretch is the best time to defoliate....about day 20 flowering.. make sure there is plenty of airflow between each of the buds and anything below the screen or that is not receiving light, take off... then again around day 40 or so, defoliate again and remove most leaves under your 5th node down... :)

Hey Ice,

Sorry to hear about your PM issues. Last grow I had a small amount of bud rot so I feel your pain. How many fans you have moving air in there?
Looks like you'll still come out with some good nuggage though :)

Hey Alaskan!!! Thanks for your condolences for my girls... :) its ok...I guess it had to happen sooner or later in my growing experience so at least now I know, and luckilly it was only a few plants, and not a whole room :) Next grow I have some ideas in mind to help keep this from happening again as well as some good commercial fungicides now on hand so hopefully PM will never appear again. After this grow is all done I am going to completely bleach water the tent, let it dry and do it again, as well as wash all fans, pots, carbon scrubber covers so I have a sterile environment. Then I am going to take my UV-C light, put it in the tent and let the fans run for a while to help knock around any free spores and kill them. Hopefully this will help. I also will be adding intake filters to my tent, and looking for a UV, ionizer for my apartment to help kill free floating spores. :)

As far as fans, I have one 12" fan blowing down across the screen, and I have one small 4" fan blowing under the canopy.. I think next grow I will have to also upgrade these to more powerful fans.

Thanks 70s Grower!! I appreciate the good vibes...yea my blackberry I am salivating over, I can't wait to try it since its the only one that didn't mess up :) it smells so delicious :)

Gratz on the double win bro, sry was so late :D :bravo:

Thanks Curso!!! I am so happy to be getting some awesome products, compliments of 420 Magazine and our sponsors!!! The SNS is going to be right there next to my tent for my next grow so I'm prepared for any type of pestie, disease or mold that even wants to try :) I feel like the termanator of MMJ pests !!!

LOL!!!! You got me laughing my ass off !!! lol alone time with my ladies...hmmm is sloppy seconds cool :) lol I am pretty stoked about that spray, I read about the hormones as well as calcium and figured hey, its organic and seems to make sense, so why not :) Its good to hear that it makes that much of a difference in overall weight as well :) Can't wait to get started with my next grow already :)

I also bought some of the Budset spray and will incorporate it next run. Probably onece a bit after stretch and around the 4th week of flower. I typically add calcium via some ground up vitamin pills at that time also.

Hmmm...never thought about vitamin pills but makes sense :) great suggestion for calcium supplements :) Can't wait to try this spray out :)

I was reading somewhere that birth control pills increase size in tomatoes...lol...idk if the estrogen is good for mmj but...thought I'd throw it out there (and I thought it was kinda funny).

In the mid 80's I was easy and ready to try anything hormonal! Anyway I used birth control pills for a couple of runs till I read that if your a guy you shouldn't add estrogen to your system in any way shape or form. Another thing to consider I knocked my girlfriend up around the same time, they were her birth control pills. Hmmmmmm. Back on subject the vitamin pills are the pure calcium cheapies, uncoated from the dollar store. I powder them in a coffee bean grinder and apply at a rate of 1/2 teaspoon per 2 gallons. You have to keep the level of calcium under the level where calcium and Phosperous lock each other out.

Yeah in the early 90's i heard of birth control pills being pushed into the soil and watered in and left there..
Now, i dont know if its just talk or someone actually has gotten results from this? Not exactly sure what would happen... Maybe if ya stick birth contr.tabs in the soil - when there s male plants around- she wont get pollinated?:) LOL..

As for results from the birth control pills. I was growing from bagseed, good bagseed from excellent Washington state pot mind you so I really couldn't tell if it was the estrogen or just different seeds. Not a good test really. However my daughter turned out awesome!

Hey Everyone... Well we are in the final week of my grow and within the next few days I will be harvesting the remaining plants and cleaning the tent, as well as getting my soil mixtures ready for the next grow. I am heavily dissappointed with this grow, with the issues of powdery mildew, ph/nutrient issues as well as a huge infestation of thrips this last week, I am soooo over this grow and just want to be done with it...

Today is day 75 flowering and I decided to take down my blackberry kush. I noticed a few days ago that I had a thrip problem, but didn't realize how bad until i havested the blackberry kush today. Overnight she went from a healthy green to this morning, all the leaves looked like deflated balloons, limp, hanging and dying...??? overnight thrips can do this??? yep they can!!! I took the blackberry down because I didn't want to watch my only plant that actually turned out go to the dumps, so I cut her down, trimmed her up and she is hanging to dry.... when I trim I usually trim on a large mirror so I can scrape up the trichomes later...however the mirror this time must have a few hundred dead thrips on it... after trimming each bud/stem I would shake it over the mirror and give it a few taps on the mirror gently to shake off any thrips...some of the buds had none, but some had 5-10 thrips in them, and this was true for over 60% of the buds...so hopefully I shook the majority of them out and killed them... these things are soo tiny!!!

I have to say that this blackberry kush smells unbelievable though, full of sticky trichomes and I cant wait to taste her in a few weeks!!! Overall I harvested about 223 grams (wet) so I imagine after drying, I should end up with 2 oz at least, possibly more because these buds are extremely dense :) I can't wait to try this one, my only successful plant out of the 6 this round..what a bummer overall..

Tomorrow I will be taking down my silverback OG, she is not recovering and I feel that the sever leaf die off must have been thrip related, being that overnight they almost killed my blackberry kush plant... very probable. I promise my next grow will be better, I had too many varibles going on this grow as well as trying way too many techniques, so when things went wrong, it was hard to figure them out.

So far what will change for next grow...:
bigger pots
preventive foliar sprays with neem/fungicides/ to make sure nothing gets these girls sick this time...
intake air cleaner...(hepa filter for filtering out intake air)
better defoliation of leaves in week 3 flowering...
more controlled feeding schedule...
less strong compost teas and less frequent..
better foliar spray regiment...less frequent but more dialed in..

there will be more things that I think of along the way, but so far this is the corrections I hope to make next time...

well on to the photos...well after I take a blast of finger hash :)
