Autos v. Photos - A 5x5 No Rules Fight for Yield: A Jon & NickHardy Gig

You are planning on a Red Sox game? I am on the west part of the state a couple hours away. šŸ‹
Yeah the friendly wager is if Jon wins I have to buy tickets for the Phillies, but he gets some deal on awesome seats because of the chair, Iā€™m not sitting on his lap though šŸ˜‚

I win its Fenway on him.

Either way - I have to fly 8500 miles on my own dime (šŸ˜‚) but thatā€™s fine. I really want to see a live baseball game. To tie that in with meeting some people Iā€™ve only known online is gonna be awesome. My best mate The Real Nick Hardy also potentially being able to come along - icing on the cake.

So yeah youā€™re in the areaā€¦

And just to be clear, two weeks is kind of the bare minimum time to cook a batch of soil with amendments, but longer is better.
Thanks @Azimuth, and understood completely. But the Skywalker last time only sat a week before planting. Two is way better. And that is only a function of time and living here. In PA Iā€™ll never be so dumb and impatient.

Also, what Iā€™m doing is hardly soil with amendments. That recipe I have and that has to wait. This is the bare minimum. Sort of a quick thrown together thing. But bokashi and frass, sure, I guess theyā€™re amendments, but I consider everything Iā€™m NOT using to be amendments. There will never be a soil without kelp, some sort of fish ferts, and some form of myco. So my mix til I move Iā€™m aware is just the bare minimum.

But I am doing okay with the bare minimum. Lmao!!

A neat crossover, many of us, Jon included, use the Photone phone app for light readings. Here's a graph from then, pretty standard from those I've seen on Co2 usage. I'm using it, Jon is not. Using it means our environmentals necessarily change. 30c+ is necessary to get the most benefit from it - this suits us as its pretty much the background average temp 365 days a year.

Edit - really this is pretty conservative on PPFD - they tend to be as no one wants the blame for you burning your plants!

I figured you knew but thought I'd point it out to visitors to the thread.

Jon! Jon! Where are you Jon?!

Olly! Olly! Oxen free! I prefer the R.E.M version from Drive, cool tune. - baaaby!

Ok hoping my compadre is well with Mom and he'll be back I'll carry the show for us both. #standard

A video walk through, starts with this grow, a little bit of the ones next to it and I sum up with my thoughts on the outcome of the contest. First person to mention Dudley Moore gets my wrath - Absorber, I don't care how high up that tree you climb I'll have a chainsaw šŸ˜†

Nice vid & tour, awesome set up & plants are looking happy, it's going to be pretty close, can't wait to see them in a few weeks :passitleft:

The Jungle
Day 36

Utter madness for day 36. This take three to four hours a day through the stretch to control. The last week, every day, that much time. Growing so fast it takes wake up and evening training sessions. Insane growth on the Gorilla Cookies with Cyco. Beastly GC in the coco 10 is so gargantuan I canā€™t even picture it effectively. No doubt about it now - biggest auto Iā€™ve ever grown and still nary a pistil. I have maxed her relative to width and the space available, now we go up. Otherwise the Northern Lights will have to go. Both reservoir plants steady and solid with serious root development. All four organics going nuts. Trizkit and Bruce Banner are immense. I canā€™t explain all this, all Iā€™ve done is the grunt work. Massively lucky on genetics and phenos is my only explanation. Iā€™m not this good.

Hereā€™s front and back view from the lower wheelchair as high as I can hold the phone. Lol.

No doubt looks like a lot of work but looks goood!

Refffereeeee!

I demand an immediate disqualification!

šŸ¤£
Perhaps a ā€œJust in Caseā€ plant would work better. Worry not NickNock, I had til the 12th when we began to switch it in if I was gonna. I chose to stay with the Trzkit. So itā€™s not in play. Weā€™re way past the point of adding or switching besides the always allowed plant removal. I wonā€™t be doing that either. I told you I could control it and controlling it I am indeed. You didnā€™t think I was gonna let a tent of common gutter Autoflowers best me, did you?

Q: How many autos does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

A: Only one of thereā€™s a photo there to show them how!

Itā€™s in the closet cuz even though it was not getting switched in, it was super sweet and definitely a keeper. I just need another name for it. That name is designed to justify that plant being in this journal. Lmao

Day #37

My Sparky turned up today. TF. Heā€™s been AWOL for 4 days and his phone disconnected. Weā€™ve had a light bust - burnt out manufactures connector for 3-4 days. Plus you know, minus 730w of light!

Heā€™s also replacing the plug on my side lighting. It came only two pin so every time you touched it gave you a mild shock (because its daisy chain-able it needs an earth I think? Sooorber! Does that make sense?)

So side lighting is a go in a mo.m if I want.

Bumped the 3000k a touch and added in some UV A+B

5000k 100%
3000k 30-40%
UV 15-20%

The near/far reds are on the 3000k dimmer anyone is wondering. That big ass purple driver in the video yesterday actually inside has two drivers. One Meanwell and one the other top boys.

Iā€™ll do a reading in a mo but I guess weā€™re at 1100+ PPFD - I know weā€™re at 1100 PPM Co2 and 2.1 EC I overfilled our main fert tank primed for flower so threw about two gallons into the feed tank for these as they transition.

Oh I defoliated them all by my lonesome! And dropped the trellis down.

Yesterday they ran 16/8. Today they're getting 14/10 and tomorrow its 12/12. That may not be their final light schedule. Stay tuned.

Iā€™ll grab a couple more pictures in a mo with the PPFD reading when the side lights are finished with. Not sure theyā€™ll go on for another couple of weeks though. But yeah I concealed my plant mistreatment crimes by chopping stuff that didnā€™t look nice out. Its why I donā€™t care about veg too much. Its about bulking up.

Anyone ever raced sail boats?

Veg for me is like pre race. At times youā€™re happy to point into the wind way way back from the line. The sails flapping away, the rigging seemingly in disarray, making no headway. Faking a problem to game your opponents. Then wind in those sheets. The sails tighten snap out as they fill with the power of the wind and sucked along towards the start line crossing it at near max speed whilst the other crews have exhausted them selves with tactical sailing and tacks and gybes jockeying for prime position.

That's my play.

Iā€™ve been slowly but surely winding those windlasses tighter the last few days. Visualising the beach bar in Penang hard yards ahead. And pop! Flip N Stretch Baby. Flip n stretch.

Its OK. Your replacement balls will arrive before the end of the grow. Youā€™ll need prosthetics after this unmanning. Its OK.

You needed brass balls to take me on. Soon youā€™ll have a set, but sadly all too late.

Nick

Anything that's not double insulated (double insulated :- if your light frame and any exposed part of the light was covered in plastic and had no exposed metal that was sharing the vicinity of the power cables ) has to be earthed and if they are daisy chain linkable with 2 core wire ,each linked light would also need to be earthed ,the exception would be if the lights were DC with a separate power supply .
Similar to the mars UR45

Turned out it was the Inkbird Co2 controller on a 2 pin had a leakage.

Love Inkbird stuff generally. Weā€™ve had 2 Mars Hydro 6ā€ inlines burn out their controllers. (We have 4 plus 4 cheap AF no brand ones - we had one cheap one break) so Sparky bought this its very cool.

IMG_1421.jpeg

Its a $15 Inkbird controller/driver (rheostat?) with Temp and humidity sensors. A cheap 6ā€ Inline is about $30 no controller. So $45 a set. The Mars set is $150 and yeah 50% failure rate.

Iā€™m hating being a bad news bear about them but what do you think? I secretly go and throw my kit around? Kick it about overnight or run it weirdly? Inlines all run at 3-6 speed out of 10 max. Not like Iā€™m ragging them!

Maybe they ship the factory seconds regionally and the good stuff goes to EU/NA? Iā€™ve bought it all direct too.

Iā€™ve spent maybe $4000 bucks with them the last 12 months. 4 tents, 6 lights, 4 fans 4 inline fans. A hydroline 12.

Its not a rant. Just sad and wearied by it.

Light upstairs is fixed and safe anyway.
