Autos v. Photos - A 5x5 No Rules Fight for Yield: A Jon & NickHardy Gig

Trim Bin action for the curious…

Here’s a quick three-picture whatever that shows some cool stuff.

I kiefed the first batch of Trizkit trimmings, which dry extremely quickly following a wet trim. Here’s what a small first batch got and why it’s cool.

This is what I see when I remove the screen top tray:

This is what it looks like when brushed to the corner:

And since I’m mixing all the kief together from this grow (Rainbow Kief, lol), here’s what it looks like in terms of volume when added to the whole. It’s the pile in the middle of course. Also note the consistency of color between the flat existing base and the new pile. It’s almost exactly the same. Clean kief is clean kief. So I’ll mix this into the whole and move on.

Fwiw!

Rainbow keif, that sounds so much better than the Raibow Cherry tomatoes I'm growing🤣
I have more than I could ever smoke and zero Rainbow Cherry Tomatoes. Sounds like we can work with that.

Jon those all look so tasty! When exactly is moving day?
I learned something important about my mix this grow. I think. This is the first time I’ve had that sort of leaf burn NOT as a result of light. That’s my mix I believe. And what I gather is the for certain strains, the SB being one, my mix is both N and Ca and maybe Mg light. Reason I say that is cuz I know exactly what caused that burn. I was starting to see more yellowing in the fans than I was comfortable with, and tried increasing my rate of EWC topping, but it didn’t work. So I gave her what I consider to be my “emergency “ N/CalMag save. The Blue Planet Pro CalMag that comes in a powder. Check it out sometime, you’ll see why I only use if I feel it’s absolutely necessary. And indeed it did the trick. But it also caused this burn as it will do, which is partly why I so rarely use it. So even though I’ll be using a far superior mix in Pa, the first grow is this mix. I gotta tweak to add those elements I think.

So @Gee64, without photos, (I can if you need) does this sound plausible? And if so are there a couple things I can add to my base mix to give it more N, Ca, and Mg? Without getting into the “whole” mix? (I already have that list from you).

Thanks!

If the leaf burn you speak of was in the leaf tips, thats typical of a CalMag drench.

It opens the soil up and the rush of nutrients gets pushed in too quick all in a blast, and some solids get pushed past the photosynthesis department and build up in the leaf tips at the end of the line.

That buildup dries out when it gets to be enough to form a solid, and that dryness of the solid inside the leaf robs the tip of moisture thus drying the tips and turning them brown. Lower doses more often, with both CalMag and teas will prevent that, as teas can do it too.

If it fried the whole leaves you simply mixed it way to strong and possibly PH'd it for maximum uptake and suffered something similar to synthetic overfeeding.

In LOS, air and water share the same space in the soil, and everything the plant eats MUST be attached to an O2 molecule for the plant to recognize it as food, so too much water indirectly effects food supply by choking off available oxygen. It's a LOS thing.
Yes on all counts. It’s all corrected now. Thanks very much. Just a few tips and what you described is exactly what happened. Got it. Awesome. :thanks:

Congrats on finally getting the actual timing of the move sorted! The future sounds bright (if eventually freezing). :)

So you'll be so posh you have an upstairs and downstairs wheelchair, or does it take the wheelchair up with you?
Up and down chair. They make em to walk up steps but I don’t have that kind of coin.

Stem Porn

Is that a thing? Lol.

Last picture shows you the break that happened early in flower. This is why I had a board and a board holding it up, wedged in at the bottom. I just yanked on this branch to turn the plant. It is solid as a rock. Good save, it was a lot of bud. Lol.

Enjoy!

Whoa.

Sometimes fortune smiles on you. Today I got these. These are going to be awfully fun to grow. Almost looks like it was from someone’s private breeding stock, doesn’t it?

☑️

Alaskan BB x Wizard is turning out to be pretty nice, it has the structure I like and seems to want to get tall now
IMG_5011.jpeg
IMG_5012.jpeg

Those 🫘 were hard like rocks so maybe sand/scuff and a long soak isn’t a bad idea.

Wookiee x Wizard seeds are massive, they pop no matter what and look at what they are doing so far…this girl is medium and mighty
IMG_5013.jpeg

Wizard S1 are legit too, a bit more fruity rather than stinky like anything else Wookies

In case you wanted any recommendations on what to maybe start with. Or are you doing them all 😆 ?

And here I was debating how clandestine or not I had to be. Lol! I’m not sure yet @Justin Goody, I tend to make those decisions once the infrastructure is finally in place, but it’ll be more than one of them, and I certainly have plenty of choices. Muchas gracias senor. And yes, I’d likely re-consult with you before making those choices.

Hey Justin, if you’re interested, it would likely shed some light for a lot of us (me included) if you wouldn’t mind talking a little about the Fs and B1s and all those initials and such we see in so many strains. Many like to act as if they get all that, I highly doubt many do. Lol! I know I have only the most rudimentary of knowledge and it would help me, speaking just for me. Thanks!

Of course.
F1 is the first generation of a cross, both unrelated parents. Likely to get phenos resembling either.
F2 is taking 2 seeds from the same F1 and crossing them. So basically breeding sisters together (requires silver/sex reversal of course) phenos become a lot more stable, especially if they were already similar.

S1’s are seeds taken by using a silver sex reversed plant to pollinate itself. This is a popular and fairly easy way to get phenos closely resembling the mother.

BX1 means that the plant was back-crossed with its original mother, usually after being crossed with something else.
For an example- the Wookiees x Wizard is a BX1 because I used wizard pollen to fertilize seeds of a Wookiee, and wizard is already bred from a Wookiees mother originally.
Wookiees itself was technically a BX1 because its Wedding Cake (which is GSC x cherry pie) x GSC. But I have bred those together making a much more stable F2/S2, which you have as well.

Wookiees f2 is the most stable. I rarely get a Wookiees that grows normal leaves…most go 1, 3, 5 point then go back to growing all 3 pointed leaves. Queen g has grabbed onto that pheno a bit and seems to make 3s and 4s strange enough.

So yes it’s basically just taking my favorites of the autos I’ve grown in the last few years and trying to isolate features…mostly taste driven hunts for this smoker…

Strawberry Banana Auto organic

As you see I have a couple yellowing leaves down low. I believe I corrected this, so far so good.

I cannot believe my luck with this plant. It has no earthly reason to be this big or this good. I’ve even grown it six other times. Same breeder, 420FastBuds too. And not once have I gotten anywhere near this plant. I know it’s not cuz my soil mix is just THAT good, lmao. This is entirely genetics you see.
