Autoflower Myth Busting Thread

Here are a pair of Jack Herer autos that I had in the same pot and just split up tonight. One is 14 days the other 12.

Gotcha Kushtie, I can see why you wouldn't want to use the heating pad.
I'll check out your journal sometime tomorrow. :)
Love the pics, if you are a photo buff...check out the seasons' thread in my signature. We love to post photos!

Golfer420, it will be interesting to see how that transplant goes and how the one uprooted does against the other.

:)

What's up guys... I got an email from Tony with dutch passion today giving a sneak peek at there 2016 auto releases.. wow.. I promise any selection from this line will perform I kinda wanna try a think big.. but 13 weeks it better be a monster
Hello A-Train, as you would expect we have been working hard to bring you the very best cannabis seed genetics and in 2016 we have some excellent new additions.

Think Big
New variety! Available from 1st January 2016!

Think Big® is a new high performance AutoFem based on the legendary Think Different genetics. Think Big® was created after a small number of special XXL Think Different plants were selected from hundreds of plants grown from seed and used as the genetic basis for Think Big®.-

Think Big® can grow taller (1.5m+) and bigger than Think Different AutoFem and takes a couple of weeks longer to finish. The two to three extra weeks that Think Big® needs to finish are responsible for the amazing big yields she offers when treated with love. Resin coverage is often sensational, the cannabis is strong and numbing with a soaring sativa high. The taste has hints of citrus, lemon and incense. Harvest time is typically 13-14 weeks after germination and yields both indoors and outdoors have XXL potential. Exceptional autoflowering genetics have just been pushed to the next level!-

Think Big® | Dutch Passion

Think Big is something a little bit crazy which I am personally excited about. Designed to be pushed hard for 13-14 weeks, it has been created with the passionate home grower in mind. Think Big baby.

And we have some great new autos based on some USA genetics

AutoBrooklyn Sunrise

AutoNight Queen

AutoColorado Cookies

AutoDaiquiri Lime

Wow Canna , there are sum great pics on that thread , your place looks mint , but 129 pages is going to take me some time , I love photography , what macro lenses do you have .
Be safe .

Thanks SonicDlf! We've had some great stuff there in the past couple of years.
Just so we don't go off topic here, we can discuss all the beauties of photography on the seasons thread if you like. Post a question or comment or photo when you have time. How's that?
:thumb:

This morning I'm moving the new kid upstairs with her very own LED light so she'll be permanently stationary for a video of growth. She's looking healthy as was quite active yesterday. Woo Hoo!

And a question for the group...is there any particular reason to NOT go 12/12 light schedule from start to finish on an Auto? What are the downsides to doing that?
If this has been answered already, I do apologize. I'm in a rush here trying to get the move done before work.

Nice to know DP is doing something new, their AutoBlackBerryKush was super tasty and potent despite my thorough abuse of the.

Nice that the european breeders are opening their eyes to US genetics, soon I might be able to buy Grand Daddy Purple and Girl Scout Cookies round here;)

RE the bit about autos being more expensive to run.....mine certainly are. With 9 weeks of flowering (for example) I expect to use about 500 hours more of light running autos than photos.

I've never done any real tests myself but am happy to take other people's word for longer light hours increasing yield with autos.

Anyway, isn't using more hours of light the point of autos? :)

That kind of answers my question on 12/12, Kushtie. Thanks!
Thinking back, yeah..they're supposed to have longer light hours. I've got too many plants going with different schedules now. LOL Maybe that's why I didn't so great with harvest results on the Auto's I tried. They went onto a 12/12 light schedule with the photos.

I'll stick with the 18/6 for this girl.

What's up fellas... this thread is going great there has been a lot of great info spread wide and FAST...

Here's my 2 cents on the photo vs auto... light usage question .. it's fact. Not myth that if they are run the same amount of time that it cost more to run an auto than it does a photo... as we all know there 2 sides to every story so now we have to look at the amount of bud produced from an auto done right compared to a photo to show that paying a few more dollars in kilowatt hours is woth it on the back end...

For say the average photo that runs say 70 day (average life cycle of an auto) will use 30 day veg and 40 day flower (if you can do that I'm not familiar with photo) that's 1040 hrs of light...

An auto ran 70 days 18/ will run 1260 hours of light ... That 220 hours more than the photo...

Our job is to see the average yield of a 70 day auto... (In my garden it's about 110grams compared to the harvest of a 70 day photo. Then take the cost of 220 hrs of light and factor it in to the difference in yield to see if in the long run it is returned on the back end..... meaning yes it cost more to run a 70 day auto in power but the speed at wich you harvest more bud actually over rides the cost of using more power in the same amount of time...

Anyone care to help me put together some number for photos that would be great

Bigger the pot bigger the plant bigger the bud simple if u dont mind watering more and feeding more 8 gal auto would be a beast ;) just a thought . And as i gardner i dont think i have ever looked it how much to cost to run my grow.i say if u wna grow the plant its upto u to provide her needs.she didnt ask u to grow her.u did ha;) cost shouldnt come into it in my eyes just the love of the plant and amazing yields and smoke is good for me;) 18/6 i always use light cycle on autos well worth all the love when end results.happy growing every1;)
