Autoflower Myth Busting Thread

Just curious what you think on the following found on the net, it listed 7 reasons that Autos are not liked by growers:

2. Autoflowering Seeds Create Higher Electricity Bills
To achieve respectable personal level yields, the light schedule for autoflowering strains should be much longer than usual. These strains thrive on twenty hours of light and we’ll do our math on this number.

Autoflowering strains use 140 hours of light a week and can finish in 70 days or less. A plant that finishes in 70 days is going to consume 1400 hours of total light from start to finish.

A healthy vegetative phase for regular seeds is approximately four weeks or 28 days. To do a 28 day veg your plant consumes 504 hours of light and for seventy day flower 672 hours are needed. Over the plants 98 day growth cycle it requires 1344 hours of light.

Carefully weigh the quicker finishing time (28 days or more) against the possibility of higher utility costs. Many autoflowering growers don’t use HID lights, which can present a whole kind of different problems.

I don't think they need light for that amount of time....am I right?
Bust that myth for us! :)

Mine don't get anywhere near 20 hrs a day. Closer to 15 actually with timer inaccuracies and me being too lazy to adjust it. I measured my biggest plant this morning and believe she has topped out at 52". If she puts out like the 37" previous plant, I expect over 16 zips.

Depends on the auto's environment and type of light and strain of auto. I've had autos done in as little as 7 1/2 weeks (sweet seeds sweet skunk auto) 60 day lemon is another quock one.

Canna ur spot on.Sounds like garbage to me;) my autos dont get that long of light cycle and my last 3 autos gave me 14 zips dry.so i belive some1 is chatting sh1t!! Lol.happy growing every1

OMG! Do you have a pair of pliers stuck on the channel knob to keep it on the channel???

Oh, the memories.....

No but I do have the original remote control. All the writing is worn off of it and if anyone in the house touches it other than me they muck it up and I have to fix it. No one has a clue which button does what except me, and I can use it blindfolded . :biglaugh: TBH though, I have had the tv longer than I have everyone else in the house put together.

So, I'm in the process of deciding where to put my Auto for video during the grow. I'm planning an 18/6 light schedule throughout the grow in a separate room from the photo period flower girls on 12/12.

18/6 okay, or what is your best recommendation?

I think she enjoyed her first dose of nutes

Grab up a cheap heating pad at the drugstore. They work great as a heat mat. :)

I would try it if I still germinated in a propagator but I use Rockwool cubes and water pH'd to between 5.5 and 5.8 to germinate in:

Mostly I'm a hydro grower but putting Rockwool cubes in soil once there are roots hanging out seems to work OK too. My new autos in hydro journal is here if you want to see how this method pans out this time....... Kushtie - ShortStuff Autos In NFT

PS. a couple more shots of wee autos I made with a DSLR and a nice lens.....
