Autoflower Myth Busting Thread

Aye, whatever I grow its way cheaper than buying. One of the reasons I like autos is that they let me run lights longer. In summer I might try some photos 12/12 from seed to see how that compares to autos but this winter I fancied the warmth off my HPS keeping me warm at my computer which is in the attic next to my grow room. Fancied trying more ShortStuff strains too.

Can anyone give me an estimate on an average 70 day photo plant yield? I have never grown one so I have no idea... I see a lot of folks here posting here she is on day 110 she has flowered for 60 so far and I see like 5 or 6 oz plants?
I assume, Doc, you mean 70 days of flower, or 70 days total. As you know a lot is strain dependant. I'm hitting a qp per plant, trimmed out. I've hit 6 with one, and hope my numbers will rise as I dial I doc's kit. Hope that helps

I have not seen a difference enough to spend extra money on soil and nutes for 7 gal vs a good Ole 5 gal

I've had the same strain in 3,5, and 7g smartie,, and I think a three can work, especially with a smartie,,, but saw best results from 5 & 7gal. My two cents anyway..

What's up fellas... this thread is going great there has been a lot of great info spread wide and FAST...

Here's my 2 cents on the photo vs auto... light usage question .. it's fact. Not myth that if they are run the same amount of time that it cost more to run an auto than it does a photo... as we all know there 2 sides to every story so now we have to look at the amount of bud produced from an auto done right compared to a photo to show that paying a few more dollars in kilowatt hours is woth it on the back end...

For say the average photo that runs say 70 day (average life cycle of an auto) will use 30 day veg and 40 day flower (if you can do that I'm not familiar with photo) that's 1040 hrs of light...

An auto ran 70 days 18/ will run 1260 hours of light ... That 220 hours more than the photo...

Our job is to see the average yield of a 70 day auto... (In my garden it's about 110grams compared to the harvest of a 70 day photo. Then take the cost of 220 hrs of light and factor it in to the difference in yield to see if in the long run it is returned on the back end..... meaning yes it cost more to run a 70 day auto in power but the speed at wich you harvest more bud actually over rides the cost of using more power in the same amount of time...

Anyone care to help me put together some number for photos that would be great

Not only that, but if you want quick turn arounds with a perpetual grow, with photos, you need at least two rooms, which also means more lights and other electronics in that room.

With autos, I run a perpetual grow in one room. I have 6 in flower and 6 in veg in the same room. The last 6 Mazars yielded me 37oz dry, which is over 2lbs. Because it is a perpetual grow, there is about 40-50 days between harvests.

Using the same amount of electricity to pull that off with regulars is not easy.

I pulled 185g in 95 days, and 323g in 103 days, dried bud to cure. Both the same strain. Today is day 40 on the current grow with one of those and two other strains. I'll be surprised if any of them are ready in 30 days. I'm good with that as long as the harvest is heavy. I'm heading to town today and looking for some heavy tote bins. Going to try TheCapn' style grow next time around.

Bigger the pot bigger the plant bigger the bud simple if u dont mind watering more and feeding more 8 gal auto would be a beast ;) just a thought . And as i gardner i dont think i have ever looked it how much to cost to run my grow.i say if u wna grow the plant its upto u to provide her needs.she didnt ask u to grow her.u did ha;) cost shouldnt come into it in my eyes just the love of the plant and amazing yields and smoke is good for me;) 18/6 i always use light cycle on autos well worth all the love when end results.happy growing every1;)

Im gonna run 8 gallon to see if there is any difference next run. Gonna do my pineapple punch and Trans siberian next. And the little extra cost isnt a huge deal since my outdoor grow is funding my autos haha

27 days old Auto Ultimate. Tucked leaves to start bushing her out.

But dang, check out Auto Critical by Royal Queen seeds at 57 days old. I had to bend over he tops because she is 5 feet tall. Now she has a 4 foot tall even canopy. She is too big and growing like a Sativa. I don't like it.

48 days old Buddha Magnum. She is bushing out nicely. I like how this strain grows, he and Buddha Sryup.

Great pics LEDRF! Are you sure that Auto critical is an Auto? Wow, look at the size....looks more like a photo period strain.

It will be interesting to see how that ends up for sure!

:circle-of-love:

I was looking at it and thinking no danger that's in soil......on closer inspection it looks like it's coco.

In hydro autos seem to be able to get a lot bigger. The only strain I've done in hydro were at least 3x the height of all the ones I've done in soil so far(I'm crap at soil lol). Hydro is a bit like growing in a huge pot with less stuff for the roots to fight their way though so through veg and stretch you should see crazy growth.

Here my baby autos 10 days old today on my new grow on sig .topping these autos.first time using led,s .so far so good;) autoultimate/tyrone special auto/durban poison auto;) under 700 watt led;)
