Arteekay's Second Grow - Autos & Feminized - Mixed Strains

Makes me laugh to think back to the "we're trying to not even touch them" stage three months ago to the thought of dragging a stick across the top of them.

I'd imagine we can get a similar result with just manual stem manipulation as well and the broom handle/pvc pipe trick is for when doing it by hand is impractical, generally because of the number of plants is too large?

It came from a study of stretch manipulation of tomato plants in a greenhouse so I imagine yes it was the number of plants. I agree with your hypothesis on bending. When I bent all my plant stems by hand the stretching noticeably slowed on all but the crowded plants.

I don't think I'll double top an auto again for a while, but otherwise I'm having a blast doing their daily training. Can't imagine doing it in your garden though. 6 was too many for the two of us.

Feb 5 Update. JH, CR, and NEM are 37 days old. DD is 26 days old. CR is on 24/0, Temp is 73 and RH is 56% at the canopy, 71 and 62% at the top where we're drying Candi from our first grow. Temp for JH, NEM and DD is 85 with RH at 47% during lights on, and 69 and 54% overnight. They are on an 18/6 schedule.

  • DD got quarter strength DNF Gro A+B and third strength calmag+ at 447ppm and 5.8 PH

With their big sister from our first grow:

My Dark Devil seems to not have minded getting tied down, but was a bit droopy from being so dry. She finally got her entire pot soaked through, and hopefully we get some real growth soon. Really not sure what to expect for size on this one.

DD (6.6 lbs down from 7.6 yesterday, 19.2 lbs after being watered:

Nem (11.0 lbs down from 18.2 two days ago, missed weighing her yesterday:

CR (24.8 lbs, down from 26.4 yesterday):

I did a bunch of defoliation and lollipopping on our Jack Herer autoflower while tying her up. She was just too thick and bushy and was getting some water spots from leaves sitting on top of each other.

JH (11.8 lbs, down from 15.8 yesterday):[/]

Very nice, when is that monster coming out of the tent?

Cheers

Another two weeks at least she'll be towering over her little sisters. Thinking of breaking down and untying her from the supports on her pot and just tying her up to the tent, let her spread out a bit. That'll be detailed in my first journal though.

wow you've got that DD wide my friend! :thumb: Should take off soon Id think

I'm fine with any of them ending up three feet long once Brit gets her fat head out of there. Don't think the Dark Devil will reach that, but New Early Miss has a shot. I'm not sure what to expect out of Jack Herer, her double topping really slowed her down, but she's just ridiculously strong now and could really put on some size during her flowering stretch.

Finally gave in and got candy cane haha hope she looks as good as yours boy she's a beaut

Congrats Man! Just to make sure you know this, there's no Candy Cane in this grow, both of them were in our first grow and journal. The remaining girl here is an Early Miss with a tragic backstory, working towards an impressive redemption concluding in the next couple of weeks.

Pardon the cross journal talk all...

Our first Candy Cane to harvest was Trudy. She gave us a 45g and has the best looking nugs we've grown so far. Her sister Candi is just about all into jars, and should give us around 140 grams of more airy, but far stickier buds.

I'll definitely be growing another CKS Candy Cane in a future grow.

Ah that was my mix up think I was bouncing back and forth on both journals must of mixed them up smoked one to many earlier haha

Feb 6 Update. JH, CR, and NEM are 38 days old. DD is 27 days old. CR is on 24/0, Temp is 73 and RH is 59% at the canopy, 72 and 63% at the top where we're drying the last bits of Candi from our first grow. Temp for JH, NEM and DD is 87 with RH at 39% during lights on, and 70 and 53% overnight. They are on an 18/6 schedule.

Nobody needed anything but some adjustments to tie downs and some manual bending and tucking. JH and NEM were both pretty empty, but we want to let 'em suffer a little bit once in awhile. Oh, almost forgot that Jaybiz did a bunch of lollipopping on his Crown Royale.

Despite going a bit nuts on the group pics, I somehow totally missed NEM. I'll blame getting distracted by supper.

Back in the tent:

I didn't realize till now after reading the first post you made on this journal we have exact same tent and size too haha. How are you liking it fell in love with it after setting it up and seeing how much the girls liked it :thumb:

Some great training RTK! I am liking what I see here. It's neat seeing you get more adventurous as time goes on. I dig the stuff you and Jbiz are pulling off here. How could anything be more fun than this?

I forced us to crawl before walking, but I think the experience was beneficial in the end. I'm a "great plan, show me a working prototype" kinda guy, so I pretty much needed to see what no training would produce.

Britney's accident opened up a new world for us, and I'm inspired to try another round of EST on a future auto, to see if the clock being paused is typical or a fluke.

It won't be another slam into a light though, hopefully I can come up with something similar without the unpredictability.

It's so much fun I've neglected a bunch of other, less exciting stuff. Really gotta learn to balance out my priorities again...

The Mars-Hydro or the Secret Jardin tent? I like them both for different reasons. The Mars has the height, top support bar strength and side windows, the Secret Jardin's openings and zippers are far superior but it's only 6 feet tall and can't support more than 22 pounds from the top, which I think is just ridiculous...

Both are 4x4 and fit on top of four insulated dricore panels perfectly. :)

Ah I guess I am getting a bad habit of not saying what I'm talking about hahaha the Secret Jardin. I totally agree with it not being tall enough, also did not know they could only support that much weight. I will be treading lightly if I decide to get any other lights but I think a 600w hps is just the right amount of light for me :) am considering going the led route (also why I'm following along both journals to compare when I'm done)

Our SJ tent is the DarkStreet 120, but it's an older model we overpaid for locally on day one. The newer models have slightly bigger poles and "stronger" plastic corners. I think it's something like 40 pounds the roof can now support. Might want to dig into it before you hang additional stuff. My Mars II 900s are far heavier than I expected, no way our SJ could support them.

Feb 7 Update. JH, CR, and NEM are 39 days old. DD is 28 days old. CR is on 24/0, Temp is 75 and RH is 55% at the canopy, 72 and 63% at the top. Temp for JH, NEM and DD was 90 today with RH at 35% during lights on, and 70 and 48% overnight. They are on an 18/6 schedule.

  • NEM and JH got a second dose of full strength DNF Gro A+B and calmag+ at 930ppm and 5.7 PH.

Early Miss and Jack Herer autos both were desperate for water intentionally, now taking 5 days to drain their fabric pots, down from 7 days last time.

I think mine might be the newer one poles are quite thick and I have only had it maybe 2 weeks tops so far. My local hydro shop here has to order stuff weekly I miss out on seeds most of the time now that people know he sells them haha
