Arteekay's Second Grow - Autos & Feminized - Mixed Strains

That scrog looks like a lot of tinkering!

You nailed it there.. way too much "medicated tinkering" but rtk wanted a single plant and portable scrog, that's what I built and I'm pretty sure it turned out better than he expected :slide::slide: (the second one would be really quick to cut and assemble)

I'm looking to try autos and have been really interested in the candy cane auto from CKS was wondering how that was to grow out last go around (sorry I know it's an old journal question on new journal) and am ready to pull the trigger and go get some from local hydro shop is it worth the buy or should I go with NL auto from CKS? Thanks, solovoodoo

Edit: guess I forgot to link to my journal for those interested

Yup, it's rtk-OCD approved even!

Candi was by far our biggest plant, our other Candy Cane was untrained and had some real problems with the environment we provided her early in their lives. Our Northern Lights were both untrained, Droopy really suffered, but the other one produced the best looking and frostiest nugs so far.

So, I really don't have a preference. I'm the "weed is weed" guy, both are getting me very nicely buzzed.

Not sure if that helps at all. :)

Feb 3 Update. JH, CR, and NEM are 35 days old. DD is 24 days old. CR is on 24/0, Temp is 73 and RH is 56% at the canopy, 71 and 63% at the top where we're drying two from our first grow. Temp for JH, NEM and DD is 86 with RH at 40% during lights on, and 69 and 52% overnight. They are on an 18/6 schedule.

  • CR got full strength DNF Gro A+B and calmag+ at 997ppm and 5.7 PH.

I woke up and checked on the Dark Devil first thing. She was up, praying and looking great. By the time I went down tonight to take their pictures, she was back to looking droopy as hell. I really don't think I've overwatered her to any great degree, but she's still a pound and a half heavy so I'll let her dry out for at least another day before re-evaluating.

She's nowhere near as tight as she was a week ago, stretching quite a bit. All three autos are throwing pistils and will be into their flowering stretch I'm guessing. I've gotta train up DD a bit before that gets underway, and stop aggressively training the other two.

Together with their sister Brit from our first grow:

Before coming out of the tent:

JH (18.2 lbs, down from 20.8 yesterday):

NEM (18.2 lbs, down from 21.2 yesterday):

DD (8.8 lbs, down from 11.0 yesterday):

CR (13.4 lbs, down from 14 yesterday, empty with her scrog now included in her weight):

Back in the tent for the night:

I've noticed your plants kill the water weight daily. I only water twice a week myself but now I'm wondering if I should weigh my plants dailys as well.

Cheers

When do you flip to 12/12 or do you stay 18/6 on your autos.

I find it wildly interesting to know what they are actually using every day, but I've had people laugh at me when they hear I actually weigh them. Doesn't bother me a bit, just another tick to add to the collection. :)

When do you flip to 12/12 or do you stay 18/6 on your autos.

We have yet to drop anyone below 18/6, our Crown Royale photo period will be our first. I've read a few threads where the autos apparently didn't auto, but we've yet to run into that ourselves.

I do plan on moving the 6 hour off period once Britney from our first grow moves out. Right now it's 10pm to 4am, which means except for the weekends, they are being fed right before bedtime, which isn't ideal. I'll move it an hour or two a day over a few days until they end up with their night at 9am until 3pm. Then they'll get fed in their morning, and picture time will be after waking up for the day, so they should be nice and perky!

That, and I like the thought that the lights are generally off while we are away from the house rather than 8 or so hours a day being unmonitored.

I'm starting to wonder if I should be weighing my plants every day.

I've noticed different levels of consumption between my two strains yet my dopey ass keeps feeding them the same volume and nute strength...

Been there, beat up Droopy to please Candi before we figured out they aren't the same plant. :)

Feb 4 Update. JH, CR, and NEM are 36 days old. DD is 25 days old. CR is on 24/0, Temp is 73 and RH is 53% at the canopy, 71 and 60% at the top where we're drying two from our first grow. Temp for JH, NEM and DD is normally around 86 with RH at 40% during lights on, and 69 and 50% overnight. They are on an 18/6 schedule.

Nobody needed anything but some loving. Jaybiz spent some time on CR's scrog while I adjusted NEM's tie downs. I let DD go a little long before doing anything with her, but worked her over a bit anyway. I've no idea what to expect out of her, so I'm just going to treat her training like the other two.

Family pics:

With their big sister Brit:

DD (7.6 lbs, bottomed out, but I'm going to make her wait another day and hopefully build some nice roots searching for her next meal. She'll get her first feeding tomorrow:

Finally doing a little training, she's woody one node down from this already:

JH (15.8 lbs, down from 18.2 yesterday):

Doing a bit of lollipopping much earlier, no sense letting her waste any time on stuff I don't want:

Clawing a bit, I knew those nutes were a bit strong. Ah well, she's two or three days away from being watered again, probably give her a bit a flush with half strength nutes then:

NEM (Dammit, forgot to write it down. Not a real important day for weight anyway, she isn't getting anything for sure):

Back in their tent:

CR (26.4 lbs, down from 29.0 yesterday) Recovered from her transplant shock and growing like a weed again:

Still looking great. Keep it up. Are you west or east coast Canada?

Cheers

Thanks for heads up now I just got to include packaging in my journal haha forgot to but I did mention they were CKS :) will be entering even though my lovely white voodoo will be almost done it journey by then can't wait :cheertwo:

RTK, how close should your light be to your seedlings? It seems I'm pulling them up out of the soil to fast. I've seen your plants and they stay close to the soil.

Thanks

Neither. Until Trudeau gets legalization through, not real comfortable being more specific. :)

$100 For a P-Scrog you say? Nah I'll just call Jay :tokin:

Not sure what he ended up paying all in, time excluded. Let's see if he responds.

Hmmm, I think we had the spider at about 28 for a few days, then 24. I think it's the fact that I keep them dancing in the wind on day one that keeps them small.

The Crown Royale photoperiod stretched the most as a seedling, but some of her height was reduced during her two transplants.

In regards to stretch I was reading an article about stretch control and it mentioned physical means. They said that among a broom handle and sweeping it across the plant tops helped reduce stretch in flower. I am going to try that this grow. I wonder if the same would work with seedlings...except maybe a chopstick? It makes sense to me. It is like a signal to the plant that it has hit a roof or the bottom branch of a tree and it is time to send out side branches to seek light. We will see if it works.
