Amy Gardner Of Eden: Perpetually Organic

she said “ooh! I like that :D ...coffee!”.
That's really one of the only smells I notice. When I open my jar in the morning I get the sense Juan is making me a pot as I roll one up. It really is a great aroma on it's own.

Good morning Amy, I have seen you on other treads and lurking in the shadows of my grow, so having finally caught up on other journals, I decided to find yours :) it’ll take me a while to catch up, but having read your intro, it should be a good read :)
:laughtwo: :ciao: Yes I have been catching (slowly) up in your journal. I thought I subbed to it in Feb actually, but ... nada - so I’m enjoying the catchup over there!

It’s super-nice to have you here :welcome: :passitleft: Kudos for getting through the intro! I know it’s long - I wrote it expecting it would be the last journal intro I write for a good while... and I couldn’t begin myself to chop anything out... :reading420magazine:

I’ve only made it through the first 4 pages so far, and enjoying the nature show so far :) Krista refers to me as a “mountain man” and she’s not wrong, before we met, I lived in a shack in the woods for a number of years, just me and the dog  I am more at home there than anywhere I have ever been :) so when you talk about the forest outside your door, I can picture it clearly in my mind :)

:ciao: hi all... VEG box is done and operating! I’ve been not really able enough to be on here much.

I’m travelling to the big smoke for heart testing (autonomic function testing actually). I have some pics from over the weekend that I am loading on to my iPad in the hopes i will be able enough to to post an update while away (there’ll be lots of ’downtime‘ so if I’m up to it, it will happen!).

Question for anyone with indoor lighting experience ;) ... with a new-model white LED from Vipartspcetra, how many watts from the wall would you draw for a 1.6’ x 1.2’ space? I think I’ve had it too high. I’ve backed it off from 50w and now have it at 35w from the wall. I’m still worried it‘s maybe too much. Just curious what others with more indoor lighting experience would do.
:Namaste:

Congratulations on the veg box, Amy!

Hope the testing goes well. :Namaste:

I'm obviously far from experienced, but have been thinking a lot about lighting for my own situation.

I have 2 main points of reference: the calculated DLI and the state of the plant itself.

If you have a lux meter, you can use this converter to PPFD (umol/s/m2). In the converter you can choose what kind of LED lighting you've got. From there you can work out the DLI your plants are getting.

@InTheShed has a really good post on DLI somewhere..

I would cross-reference the DLI with how the plant itself is looking - stretchy, stacked, stressed?

Your walls are very close, so maybe you're getting more effective reflection? :hmmmm:

That's 2 square feet, so you were at 25/sqft, and only 17 now. But I keep seeing people who dialed their lighting back, and they almost always got an improvement.

Are you getting enough fresh air through the box?

Pics didn’t transfer so that won’t be happening ... will probs just take a whole new batch when i get home on friday. Unless there are any gems.

I’ve thought about that too...

Yes this has been true for me - i experimented this year Running the tent lights hotter and didn’t like the results TBH.

I actually feel like the lux meter doesn’t read the lights ver well because it’s only looking up, not around, if you know what i mean. Light is coming from everywhere in there! When the Lux meter was showing 45 at the canopy stuff was not happy - light stress, burnt leaves, huge foxtails.

I remember 3 years ago the blue drexam iI grew int here, even tho it was a bit weird, made decent solid buds... and that was with the boards only so didn’t even break 200watts from the wall.

I’m putting the lux meter away for a while and setting things at the low end of watts/square ft and watching the plants to see if any adjustments need to be made.

I am pretty sure i am. I have an extraction running all the time and there’s various small openings around the bottom. Even when the box was open the CBD#1 would not stop being droopy.

I am struggling to get it warm enough for veg so that may well be all it is. Too cold. The plant is green and healthy lookIng, just got that droop thing happening. The clones in the other hand are perfectly happy and really starting to grow (with much reduced light (behind a screen) so that was also a clue that the light was too intense. But they’re not droopy so... will hopefully return home to a perkier plant.

Oh and I had a new Candida CD-1 come up - just popped up the day before i left, hope it’s okay!

Thanks everyone for your well wishes and support. It’s a wonderful salve. I am travelling a bit rough because I had to stop taking everything for this test so I‘m 3days without cannabis or the other energy supplements so pain levels are high and I just have to ride it out. Autonomic testing later today, physio this morning. Phewf! I’ll be happy to be getting back home in a day or so - and also back to the hotel tonight for som canna oil!

I do love visiting the city tho’. I enjoy the nostalgia from my 20s and 30s greatly, I had some wonderful times here, but I enjoy it along with no earthly desire to ever live here again! Gosh I love my forest home.

Saw this wonderful thing at the airport when we stopped for a (really good) coffee. The wall of the cafe was decorated thusly

A lovely tribute to travel! With an added archaic dimension in an airport that is now a veritable ghost town.

Love that wall of luggage

:Namaste: I did thankyou.
Fare well!
Thank otter - I am. And faring better today than yesterday. I managed to water plants yesterday morning and then was down the rest of the day. Today I am managing to be out on my little deck between my room and the forest. The Glossy Black cockatoos are close by munching on casuarina nuts and amny other birds are dong their musical, chittery, crittery things as well. It’s very peaceful.

One of the tests triggered some ‘neuro’ responses which was both pretty taxing and something of a relief. It’s what was being looked for/tested and it‘s never happened in front of anobody medical before so I’m glad i was looked up to machines when it happened. I’m just pretty seriously wiped out from the the trip and that combined now.

In good recovery tho - enjoying the fruits of my canna garden immensely after coming home. I’m thinking ther is something special about the Early Miss so i might need to drop another one. It has lovely fruity terps and turns off the barrage of unwanted thoughts like nothing else. I shouled make a dosing oil out of it... but TBH these days I’m just toking for my THC mostly!

Here’s another awesome travel shot... it’s out the window of the plane as we circled over some tidal estuaries. The ripples in the sand were spectacular - I only managed to capture a small bit with the phone camera!

AND now... Back to growing business!

I’ll get the very overdue update together soon, I promise! EVerythuing is still alive and the little grow box is working out well. Just needs a proper door setup.

I do want to reset my light timing for the whole grow, though, and wonder how possible it is with plants already in veg, so I have a question about lighting and changing light period;

How long would I need to give plants (which are now in early-mid veg) 24hours of light before it would cease to matter what time “sunrise” is when switching to flower (or switching back to shorter veg light-period)?

Is that a convoluted way to ask it? :hmmmm: (It seemed clear to me at the time :) )

Lemme try again just in case. You can’t take plants that are veg’Ing under 18/6 from, e.g., 430am to 1030pm and then flower them with lights on from 6pm-6am - it will cause light stress - 3-4bladed leaves and sometimes ‘retarded’ flowering.

SO, I think it’s possible to turn them ‘around’ by running the veg lights at 24hrs for a while and then restarting the light-dark periods at the new desired times.

I’m wanting to know then - is this really possible or am I imagining it...? and if it is possible - how long it will take at 24hrs of light?

I’ve decided, based on lots of observation here (including of my power usage and heat problems in the tent) that I need to go back to running my lights overnight - even in winter (which is what i did last year). So I’m thinking about finishing up the 2 flowering now and then switching things over. Just wondering how long it’ll take before the veg’ing ones are then ready to flower.

Hopefully I made my question clear! I’m pretty tired o_O

And hopefully someone(s) among my wonderful clan here will know a little something about it :D

Reading around a little bit, I keep finding folks posting that it should be fine to just move the veg box light schedule, even just by leaving the lights on until the new lights-off time. Most of those folks I’d never herd of but one of them was @Weaselcracker and if he says he’s done it plenty wth no serious issues then that’s good enough for me!

So maybe I’ll just give it a burl and see what happens. I definitely don’t want to keep flowering things in the tent during the day, especially as the weather warms up!

I honestly thought changing light-on time during veg could cause issues, but maybe that’s just when moving to flower (or during flower)...

Yes, perhaps I’ll just do it - for science ;) :smokin2:

Trust @Weaselcracker , he’s been at it a long time and knows what he is doing. Using an extended light schedule so you can change the on/off times definitely won’t hurt in veg. I have even extended daylength on flowering plants just to see what would happen.

I started flowering 3 different strains under 12/12 and at week 3, gave them 14hr days to finish flowering them with no ill effects.

That's great Amy that you got the issue documented finally. Now they can use that info as it should be.

On the light timing shift. I have shifted 1 hour once with no trouble. I couldn't say what a bigger shift might do. Maybe try it in shifts of 1/2 or 1 hour /day or two?
