Amy Gardner Of Eden: Perpetually Organic

foxtailing
Some varieties ’foxtail’ naturally. Many landraces and sativa have ‘airy bud‘ that resemble what canna folklore calls foxtails.

On fatter, denser buds of the more commonly found type a foxtail is, as you noticed, an extra collection/outcropping of bracts that shoot of at jaunty angles from the cola.

I have pics of some good ones coming one up later today, on my Sour Bubba.

And actually, the post i linked from MrSauga has some excellent pics of them.

Anyhooooo... here’s the harvest report and I’ve included, for MrSauga and followers
Thanks for kudos Amy!! :high-five: I'm glad you stumbled across the post and found it useful in your situation. :green_heart:
It's about time MrS got some credit for all the great work he does around here!
I get all the credit I need from the bank , thank you very much.
:Namaste:

Yay! Cheers for the harvest Amy. Whaz next sour Bubba?

A few weeks ago @MrSauga made this excellent post about the kind of foxtailing that can happen due to light and/or heat stress. When I read it many somewhat disconnected thoughts in my head came together and I realised that is exactly what I’d been seeing on the Nothern LIghts auto, for some time.

Excellent, Foxtails can be fun to photo. :yummy:

I have been making mistakes in the garden.:nerd-with-glasses:
My mistakes this season have gotten me some mix of stress reactions. I accidentally re-vegged my Pakistan Chitral Kush and Kali-China Yunnan, after 4 weeks of flower I was cleaning around the timers and I gave them an extra one hour of light randomly in the middle of the dark period, for about 2 weeks before I figured it out. . . . Little push pins....

So,
During the re-veg, this one got a 'baseball bat' thickness at the top before re branching. the main stem is thick all through with flower. Nice and healthy and my harvest will be better than I could hope. Pretty cool and very much a PCK.

I dont wanna clutter up your journal, hope ya dont mind, here is a pic.
from this morning, for example with the lighter.

thumbnail, click for a better look

and another from a couple days ago, it is about a 2 foot plant, perfect for space. Temps are not my biggest problem, Humidity is, I am happy to keep it under 60%.

The top just clustered up as a cola, and branches came almost from nowhere streching from down below.

Another comparison....Here is it next to its sister, both S1 i made. They look different but are very similar and homogeneous to their mother. I think this is my fifth time growing this family always been similar.
The sister on the left branched up top and had a stretch.

Stigmas are overwhelmingly white and only just yesterday have I seen any significant browning and whithering. I hope I can harvest 4-6 weeks at most. Time for a fall planting is coming quickly.

Yay! Cheers for the harvest Amy. Whaz next sour Bubba?

 yep
hope ya don’t mind
i really don’t! That was an awesome foxtail tale :high-five:

yes this exactly! I thought i was seeing light stress the whole time but was confused because it was an auto - then I realised it was probably too close to the lights.

Great looking harvest Amy. Hope you feel better soon.
Thanks Caddie
Hi Amy :ciao: NLA sure hangs well. Love your innovative hanger! I missed MrSaugas post earlier. I'm off to check it out. Thanks
cheers otter! That Hanger is a Hills clothes airer I keep in my room and had discovered is the perfect harvest accessory So I’m glad you mention it!

It has wheels :D So once everything is hanging, I can move it around easily, inside or out! I bought it a while back and only just discovered how good it is for this! The sections fold down so it can take long things too ;). I can even cover it and attach my litlle computer fan I use for air movement when drying to it And it becomes the prefect drying ‘tent’. I’m very stoked woth it. WIll probably get a dedicated one (so I’m not stuck for where to put my washing when there’s a plant hanging!)

okay, I will follow this up with...... Amy, I hope you are feeling better soon, and thank you for all you do.
:thanks: hiya oops! Hope you’re doing well today...
Wait, what? :thedoubletake: :laughtwo:

Update: Sour Bubba - The One That Doesn’t Smell :hmmmm:

Honestly, it has no smell! Maybe a hint of fuelly funk. Even the ‘it’s a cannabis plant’ smell is so faint you could blink and miss it. It’s a really weird experience, especially given it’s parentage!

I never found those 2 nanners that appeared in a picture a while back but recently a bunch more have popped out. I’m ignoring them. I don’t see any seed anywhere and I don’t have the capacity to get in and seek and remove right now so, it is what it is.

There’s no shortage of buds and trichomes though!

The top leaves have dried, clawed with a curly end and become discoloured recently. I’m trying to decide if it’s part of the ‘too close to the lights’ effects or something else. Everything below looks fine. It could be light/heat burn, but it’s not the kind of bleaching that usually indicates lights being too close or too hot. It could also be connected to not having any Tea. Doc gave me excellent instructions on a substitute - which involves brewing up worm casting and and Roots! powder into a tea - but I ju dont have the capacity to do it. I did it twice a couple of weeks ago and I suffered too much from it. I have some more coming in the mail :)

I suppose it’s also possible that I put too much worm castings in the topdress at 3weeks and I’m seeing that now (too much nitorgen).

It’s not really a huge issue at 6weeks of flower and the buds are not affected - apart from the heat and light induced foxtailing ;)... and the fact that, did I say?, it has no smell :thedoubletake:

Photos from Saturday ... (day 106(+54/33))

*except this first one, which is about 2 weeks earlier because I want to document the progression of the curled, fried top leaves, which was just beginning here...

And fully clawed now... with curl up at the end. Bubba Hash got that a little bit, but not this extreme.

It looks closer than 3 weeks away, which is what I’ve been expecting, so I may be taking it earlier than planned. That will mean some idle space in the tent for a minute while I veg the CBD plants (the Veg box build is coming along... s l o w l y...).

Time will tell. I really hope it goes the full distance.

The buds are very solid which is helping me discover that my lights can be run really very soft. The Lux at the top of this plant is only in the 40000s and even the lowers are rock hard, nearly 4ft from the light. The tops are still just inside the 2’ distance so next time I’ve got help to move plants, I’m going to raise it a little more.

This lovely lowest bud is very solid :smokin2:

I am super curious to see what happens with the smell, if anything. It’ be a great stealthy plant!

Thanks for joining me in the garden folks :thanks: An update on everyone else shall be along soon. I hope you all are as happy as you can be and well medicated if not!

Hi Amy :ciao: it's been tough keeping up with everyone's journals lately but I'm trying. Congrats on that Northern Lights auto harvest. 3+ oz seems pretty good to me. I love my NL that I grew last year. A great end of the day smoke for me.

Update: Panama - day 71(+31) plus some newbies
:passitleft:

I’m pretty excited looking forward to having some of this in my jars!

No red pistils yet. I have read that they can come in late but time is marching on, innit!?

I’m really happy with this soil, well, apart from a crazy amount of fungus gnats, fuh goodniss’sakkes! I’ve dealt with em before, so am keeping the damage to a minimum but there’s been quite a few :eye-roll: .

But still, the soil seems well balanced. I have pushed it a bit as the breeder of this Panama says it can tolerate some feeding. I took that as an opportunity to see how rich this soil is and also Try out the organic fertilisers i bought with it. The soil is ‘water-only’ but I’ve diluted it a little (by 20-30%) and am supplementing a bit with the fish hydrolysate and kelp fertilisers, both as drenches and foliars. I’ve burnt the tops a bit recently - I think with a fish foliar ‘misting’ that it maybe didn’t really need. Also maybe becasue I let it dry out a bit to irritate the gnats. No major harm done :) I’ve mostly given it only water (our magical rain water) that last few waterings - sometimes with some powdered microbial product added.

It has some real heft to it in the top cola and very strong stem. For those who didnt see or don’t remember it started under veg lighting and then switched to 11/13 at about 10days (maybe 2 weeks) old, has been left untopped and kept in small pots, now in a 3gal.

I really love the short and spikey pistils! And also the lovely sativa type ‘open‘ flower structure. The bracts are kind of fanned out, like regular petals.

I’ve noticed that shape starting to come into the upper leaves - the shape that the upper leaves on the SB have taken on big-time. So, if it’s the same phenomena, that might support the environmental theory (light intensity and/or heat). I will see how or if it progresses.

All in all, I’m very happy with my first try at running a sativa like this. Panama is a pretty tame one to do it with, not sure how others will go but I’m sure to find out! I’m probably going to try it with the Thai Chi next. I’ll run indicas and hybrids in small pots like this too, but probably not 11/13 from seed. This Panama has done exactly what I wanted/was hoping so it’s definitely something I’ll be doing again!

Meet the new kids! :slide:

CBD#1 From ACE Seeds

After 3 years of hard work and with lab assistance at each breeding step, we finally offer CBD #1, the first ACE Seeds strain where all plants produce a stable chemotype with high CBD content (between 13-17%), very low THC content (between 0.6-0.7%) and a cannabinoid ratio with more than 20 times CBD than THC, the result of breeding a Cannatonic S1 of very high CBD content with the Afghan ErdPurt, also rich in CBD.

Here’s the complete info for anyone interested:
After 3 years of hard work and with lab assistance at each breeding step, we finally offer CBD #1, the first ACE Seeds strain where all plants produce a stable chemotype with high CBD content (between 13-17%), very low THC content (between 0.6-0.7%) and a cannabinoid ratio with more than 20 times CBD than THC, the result of breeding a Cannatonic S1 of very high CBD content with the Afghan ErdPurt, also rich in CBD.

CBD #1 produces dense and super sticky buds of medium size and very good bag appeal, extremely rich in oils, resins and terpenes. The amount of resin is truly extraordinary, with the sugar leaves becoming completely covered with trichomes, almost as much as the flowers themselves, making this variety an excellent choice to produce hashish and other high quality extractions with high CBD content.

The terpene profile of this strain is incredibly intense, complex and refined, a perfectly balanced blend of the very strong and dominant sweet ripe tangerine and tropical fruit terpenes of Cannatonic, with elaborated sweet, floral, gummy, earthy, piney and musky details of the ErdPurt Afghani, and a super pleasant and long-lasting hashish aftertaste. Undoubtedly, one of our most fragrant strains with some of the highest terpene levels.

It produces a very mild effect, with hardly any psychoactivity (due to its high CBD/very low THC content) and high medicinal value that relieves both physical pain and mental discomfort (stress, anxiety, paranoia). Especially suitable for those people who seek medicinal effects but have low tolerance to THC, yet still want to enjoy the best terpenes and resins of the highest quality cannabis.

GeneticsCannatonic S1/ErdPurt x Cannatonic S1.
StructureRobust and columnar during the growth, with the large, wide leaves and thick stems of Afghani indica, showing more sativa traits in flowering.
BouquetIntense, complex and refined, a perfect balance of the very strong and dominant of sweet ripe tangerine and tropical fruit terpenes of Cannatonic, with elaborated sweet, floral, gummy, earthy, piney and musky details from the ErdPurt Afghani, and a super pleasant and long-lasting hashish aftertaste. Undoubtedly, one of our most fragrant strains with some of the highest terpene levels.
HighVery light, with hardly any psychoactivity, especially suitable for those who seek medicinal effects and do not tolerate THC well. Initial sativa effect: clear, focused, expansive and sensitive sativa that connects you with the surroundings and greatly improves the mood, providing a psychological state of calm and positive thoughts. It develops in a more relaxing and daydreaming way, with a feeling of contentment, relieving physical pain, stress, anxiety and paranoia. Excellent medicinal potential.
Terpene profileIt has not yet been analyzed.
Growing TipsIt can easily be grown indoors, and it is very suitable for both SOG and SCROG crops.
Outdoors it can be grown up to latitude 45º, both in warm and cold climates.

We recommended to prune it if you wish to get more branched plants, since its natural structure is quite columnar.

Excellent strain for breeding projects and to develop short flowering CBD-rich strains, with terpenes and resin of the highest quality.

We recommend moderate-high levels of nutrients for the whole cycle.

It sprouted with its seed helmet on (which hasn’t happened to me in aaages! Didn’t go deep enough obviously.) And it’s cotyledons were then fully stuck together for a couple of days while I slowly aided the unsticking. It’s growing in a temporary propagation box and is nearly in need of more. The veg box I’m making is coming ... and better be soon! Otherwise I may need to piut in in under the 3000/3500k for 11 hours a day. I don’t really want to though. It’s not as warm as I’d like during light on - but I cant keep the RH up anyway so a bit of slow growing is ok while I’m still building the bigger box!

This is in the new super soil like the Panama and will get transplanted into a single standalone auto-pot. I will fill teh reservoir for it manually to see if I like the pots (before I invest in a reservoir system and purchase more pots).

You’ll notice my clone zone on the right :thumb: This is a little rehearsal for the incoming growbox, using translucent plastic and paper to shield light in different amounts. RH has been way below ideal but I have some cloning action nonetheless. You’ll hopefully also notice the one in the square pot has started to lift right up and put out a new shoot - that’s the rooted cutting I planted. Ironic that what seems to be my first successful clone is of something that is unlikely to be a keeper - the to-date aromaless Sour Bubba. I guess that is an indication to start letting it have a bit more light.

And just because my jars of it are nearly empty  ...

DDA d#4
I know, I know! I just harvested a DDA. :smokin2: That one is different, and these dynamo-made ones are special!

I do like the new one, but it’s definitely more lie down for a nap than most DDA, lots of mango in the smell. These ones dynamo made had a parent with a rich syrupy delightfulness that comes through most in the #4s (for me) which usually stay super dark purple in the buds, with a total of about 6 green fan leaves that turn beautiful autumn colours during ripening. The high from them (not to mention the flavours!) is unique to me so far - like dancing I always say - so I like to have one growing whenever I can! Squeezed into the corners.

They’re a runty pheno, so last time I grew 2 each per 1gallon pot. This time I’ve given one a 1 all to itself  (Also the new super soil)

I’ll round things out for the day with the tent family - now officially the flower tent :D, seeing as I have a seperate place to start plants :)
