Update on the state of the Garden (2018-19: week 8-9)
Teething problems and trip-ups embraced in stride, things are coming along very nicely :ganjamon:

I realised when going back over my diary that a TP dunk-Drench I gave on NYE should have been a Growth Ionic. GI is where most of the calcium in the whole grow comes from, so right when they needed it I withheld the calcium supply - no surprises i had that calcium deficiency show up then. Still not sure how I made that mistake, i’ll blame brain fog bc I’d been out for an appointment and was pretty taxed. Anyway - it tells me I need a better system for tracking things. Currently rehearsing a few ideas

It’s interesting though that the mishap maybe showed me that this white widow has higher calcium demand than the others, who took longer to show it, and don’t show it as much.

They all loved their hearty Growth Ionic Drench a few days ago and a Brix foliar spray the day after. For the Critical Mass, I added the requisite amount of Snake Oil as directed for my custom soil (I’m to add this to Brix foliars once a month - at 1/4 of the amount of Brix).

I’ll continue updating each plant in seperate posts I think... the lovely White Widow coming up :Namaste:

Update: White Widow - day 57

Recovering from the calcium starvation this one is looking fab still. New growth is strong.

So I’ve mentioned that related to the gnat presence, sometimes new growth emerges already nibbled or ill-formed. I’m wondering if the young adult gnats do this. If not, this is something else which I also have to eradicate. You can see that the new shoot on the other side has been nibbled off already. These are lower shoots and the same phenomenon happened to my Blue Dream (which was gnat challenged too). WHen @Pterostychus resurfaces hopefully he can help with this and other bug ID related things. It’s hard to see - but there’s something there. Maybe it’s a gnat. It was small. I killed it getting it off.

It might be a tiny wasp too as it maybe has feelers,, in which case it may be a predator, hard to know ...
I also decided that I have enough time to supercrop this one a bit as it’s definitley still veg’ing. Pistils have showed at the nodes (is this what we call preflowers?) and there’s lots of new growth still. SO here’s the front on and top down pics after supercropping - i think I could have made them bend down a little further/lower. It might recover too soon.

I think I noticed out the window that these have recovered already. Can I redo them in the same spot? :hmmmm: I’m pretty new to supercropping :battingeyelashes:

I see that you kinked them, so Duggan can probably give you the best guidance.

I just bend mine and they recover within hours. I only cause a little scar tissue, so I bend em' at the same place again, over and over. But once they're kinked, you might have to do a different spot the second time.

Ask Duggs, but I think the kink maybe slows down the new growth, so even if they come back to even with the canopy, they'll be slower than before? :hmmmm:
:Namaste:

:thumb: I’m hoping it just slows down those top ones (that I bent) and brings the others up/ makes some new tops out of the nodes underneath. Those lower nodes were looking like wanting to take off anyway so I figured I’d help them join the party. It’s going into a big 13gal pot tomorrow so there’s going to be plenty of room - and hopefully a week or 2 before flowering really kicks in.

I see that you kinked them, so Duggan can probably give you the best guidance.

I usually bend too, is all I’ve ever done until recently. I figured I’d try something a bit different and learn what supercropping does. Seeing as this one looks so good:)

Hope you’re well and hale Gray :Namaste:

Duggs might be by, can’t remember if I put the link over in his room yet... maybe if I holler ... @Duggan

You were worried about Candida as well last week. They’re not tippy at all! :)

What’s your take on the supercrop? I was sure you’d have a take for me :battingeyelashes:

I have a plan to chase up Pt ... and he did respond, once... ;) I usually find him eventually. The more I look at that first pic the more I think I might’ve killed a predator. It just looked so much like it was there munching on new growth - so it’s hopefully best that I nipped it in the bud! :D

My take on the supercrop is that if the bend has hardened up, I bend elsewhere. Sorry, I got distracted by something on the telly.

Also, you can tuck the crop under an adjoining branch to keep it from bouncing up and then untuck it the next day, Or put a binder clip around the branch (around, not attached to o_O) to give it enough weight to keep it down.

My mother always said, "Don't tip it." It rings in my ears still.

:thumb::thanks:

I’ve been using rocks on the bent garden ties to anchor down the shoots on my little autos i’m Learning your technique with - it’s working nicely, easy to move around. I’ll get some pics in here soon :battingeyelashes:.

Update Critical Mass - day 59

I feel like I should add a disclaimer about the kit with all my posts atm. Both my standard kit grow and my custom soil grow are kinda wayward, or slightly improvised, for different reasons. They won’t always be but I wouldn’t want anyone to get the wrong impression about the kit.

This plant was the star of early veg and then went into flower super fast after the solstice, like, within a week. The days are still longer than 12hrs I’m fairly sure. Maybe I’ve stressed it into flower, or maybe some dark stormy days. In any case it has many pistils in every top now.

It’s in the raised bed along with the recently applied custom ammendment and went in sooner than is ideal so right now I’m just hoping it makes it through the next week or so ok. It’s survived the first week :thumb:

A bit of new growth kicking in after the GI drench the other day. I’ll get some better pics once it gets through the next little while and we’ll see how it fared.

It’s central tops were looking really long today so I decided to tie them down to continue keeping things low. I remember the Critical Mass x Afghani I grew last year was pretty damn rangey during this stage, but with all the pistils showing already I’m not sure how much stretch to expect. Time will tell.

From above before tying the 4 middle tops down:

And from the front afterwards

Update: Candida CD-1 - day 57

This one took a bit longer to show the calcium deprivation “rust” marks on the leaves, and isn’t showing it too badly at all - pretty sure I’m on track with that now, and I’ll keep the GI Drenches on the hearty side. I’m holding off transplanting as long as I can but i’m getting pretty “toey” ;) .

It’s going into the raised bed ‘behind’ the Critical Mass and technically neither of them should be in there yet. But the time of nature doesn’t wait for the ammendment being so delayed in customs and the calendar ticks on. I really want it to get some time in there before it starts to flower.

Pistils are showing at the nodes and some alternating nodes are happening, Transplant may happen any day - it’s a new moon in Pisces too so the time seems ripe.

She’s looking quite statuesque today I thought :yummy:

New growth coming along well - I’m enjoying the forms and shapes of this one ...

It’s been pretty rainy over the last week so I haven’t had the good camera out much. This weeks critter comes to you via iPhone. These kangaroos are regular here too, everyday pretty much. When they’re slacking off from keeping the lawn down they like to just chill out in the shade. They’re a nice energetic presence :) very gentle.

Hiya AmyG,

Love the training on your Critical Mass. I am going to do that when our summer gets here. I'm intrigued by the percentage increase when trained from early on. My neighbor does something like that but when they're older. They stake branches so as to let light more into the plant interior. I think I need to do those things. Thanks for the inspiration.
I can tell you really enjoy manipulating your ladies. Nice job to be proud of!

“Stop talking about that cake!”
My mother never was as famous as Lily Tomlin though :).

That grapevine+ training on the CM...still digging it. It gets cooler as it gets wider! And the Candida looks really healthy and looks like it has outgrown the floppy thing it had early on. I'm theorizing that it was growing up faster than the stem could keep up, and if it doesn't break, that's seems like a good thing to me!

Hiya AmyG,

I just happened to think - You mentioned getting a soil test to see what amendments you needed to grow in DBHBB products. Did you get the test? I'm curious about the whole process.

Thanks Bode ☺️
I’m really into new territory so kinda feel like I’ve no idea what I’m doing. These plants are very kind to let me practise on them :D
They can take far more than you think! I've put a few of mine through the ringer here lately. You would be surprised what they can take if they are healthy and getting good light.

Happy day in the garden of Eden today. White Widow gets a new home today - 13gal of first run HB soil.

It’s 730am, I’ve had my Saturday morning wake n bake - DDA deliciousness - and a garden elf will arrive at my door any minute to assist me getting it done. :high-five:

It’s a beautiful day for it too. Looking forward to some time out there. It’s been mostly raining for days!
:Namaste:
