Alaskan1's Flo n Gro Mixed Bag Grow

Why would you need a light baffle for a ventilation system? The ducting is opaque, the fan is opaque and has angles that block light. Is this for a passive intake vent? Further, if it is for an intake vent, is the sleeve inside the tent not adequate?

OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I should come get it and fix her!
I'm so sorry to hear that Chief. I know your bummin

nah man...im bummin after i read this. i made a note to stay up and wait for a reply from you but it took a while so i thought you logged off lol if i'd have known youd say this i'd have given you all of my h202 and a the plant and let you fix her since your becoming the root rot healer on 420 mag lol:high-five:

ahhh i messed up any way here comes the kicker guys...... my roots were dyed red from my bud blood (i knew that it would dye them so that didnt worry me) what worried me was the foam coming from inside the pot... well i snipped her down, cut her roots and pulled her out of my bucket lid and tore the rockwool apart to find PERFECTLY HEALTHY ROOTS IN THE ROCKWOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im so god damn upset with myself right now.

ugh...if there's one thing this whole adventure has taught me: PULL before you CUT.

I'm sorry that a healthy plant has bit it due to the reverse. You might have even been able to trim off the roots from outside and clean the res and been fine. Damn... Sorry, Chief.

To late lol.... I washed mine pretty good just pulled a pot and this is what was waiting for me
IMG_065712.JPG

A dust ring around the top and bigger peaces on the bottem now I really wish I would have washed them a 2nd time!

A1 great job on the light trap!:goodjob: one thought is that you could paint the inside black, that way less light is reflected around the corners, probable not a big deal just a though. Any ways great job keep up the great work!

For what it's worth, mine look like that even after really thorough cleaning. I've come to the conclusion that just banging them around makes more dust, so sometimes even when you clean them, you are producing more dust as they get banged around. I have worse rings/residue than that after multiple grows and multiple washings before and between grows. And I clean mine with bleach between grows. Still, I have residue like that or worse. I gave up on "no residue/grit left behind" with hydroton a while ago now. I just try to minimize it, and I've had no ill effects ever because of it. Maybe there is a quality difference with it, too, but what I have around here seems to be this way. I'm a clean freeeeeak, and I have tried my best!

I think OG13 uses (or a friend of his does one or the other) a cement mixer (great idea!!) to clean hydroton between grows, and I believe he's had some luck getting the residue mostly eliminated. Cement mixer doesn't fit my scale, so I'll continue to do the best I can with what I've got. :)

haha i hear ya. i was almost sure it was the beginning stages of RR but also i been trying to find an excuse to kill her off. she was my runt from day 1, had stringy tiny branches that would fall over if i put a quarter on them, she was weak and sad. alaskan1 has clones of my healthy White Russian so i'll have a place to get this strain again.

i'm sad to see her go but just wait and see what i do with these girls now that i have more room. things will turn around soon:thumb:

Yeah, but didn't you say she was a runt? I think you were on to something before... Sometimes less is more. If you have stronger plants that will take up her space, you will be better off, in my opinion. I've been down that road, and that's my experience. Unless it's your last seed or opportunity to grow that strain, you can make up for it by letting the other gals spread a little - they'll love you for it. ;)

Don't get me wrong, I reeeeeeally struggle killing/culling plants. I just want them ALL to live, lol.

Bud Blood is crazy - don't get it on anything unless you want that thing to be pink/red forever. The measuring syringe I used with it, took forever to get rid of the pink hue - multiple washings/rinsings. Crazy stuff! I can't tell if it works though, too many variables in grows I've used it.

I believe the red dye actually is a significant part of what makes it work - if I remember correctly it is used (something about the red color) to create a hormonal response in the plant. I didn't read that specifically about Bud Blood, but about a direct competitors product -- but when you see the way Bud Blood is, it seems highly likely they have a similar goal/ingredient in Bud Blood.

EDIT: Haha, now I just saw you had another post before I got this posted, where you mention the same thing as far as being a runt and letting the others have more room. :)

i deffiantely needed the room but i'd of loved to give her to alaskan1 instead of killin her.. spent so long growing her and feeding her just to snip her down to not see her in her final hours really hurts the ego lol

I should have paid more attention to your pictures, too. In retrospect those roots look really healthy in the pics you posted, perhaps a little pink/red from the bud blood, but really healthy actually.

I agree it would have been a fun project for Alaskan1, my new go to guru when I have root concerns. :)

It takes challenges, mistakes and problems to get really good at growing - just part of the learning curve we are all going through, constantly. I decided this grow, I'm sick of learning. I just want things to go right now. ;)

Curious, do you have enough experience yet with Bud Blood that you have an opinion on its effectiveness? I've used it twice, and like I said - too many variables for me to know for sure. I suspect, though, that it DID initiate flowering slightly faster when I used it. Just an educated guess and intuition on my part, though, nothing scientific. I still have a bunch of it that I got for free, so maybe I just WANT to think it helps, haha.

Sorry for highjacking your thread, A1 -- I just realized I probably should have posted this on Chief's thread. :sorry:

this is my first run with bud blood, but the guys at my co-op say they love it, the guy at the hydro store told me he prefers it over Bud Ignitor by advanced nutes. today is my 3rd day under 12/12 and i dont see much yet. i was told i'll see buds form within the week so i'll let ya know for sure. this was the most talked about and recomended product i heard about so i'm hoping for good things.

You are correct in thinking it's for a passive air intake. I got inside the tent and had the lights inside the tent turned off and I could see light coming in through the duct. Though the light wasn't much I could still see some and I'd rather not take the chance. Didn't really cost me anything money wise since I had everything I needed from my dads construction company. All it cost me was time and a BLUE FINGER TIP! lol

Yeah, I was a lil late on the reply. I was busy building these damn light baffles.

No need to be upset Chief, You and I are in the same boat. We are learning so we WILL make mistakes. Bet you won't make THAT mistake again! So, maybe in hindsight it was something that needed to happen.

I know the feeling. In my first grow I had to kill off a Blueberry and a Urban Poison plants, I put it off and put it off until there was just no choice but to pull them. Killed me to do it.

Yes, That's me! The root rot MASTER! lol
Alot of what I learned was from Bassman and reading on the internet.

X, we are ALWAYS going to be learning so you better just get use to that lol
You have some fantastic grows so if you learn something along the way thats a bonus. Besides, knowing you as I do you'd get bored if everything went smoothly lol

No worries about jacking the thread. I always enjoying having chatter on my journal. Specially when it's you and Chief! :thumb:

Damn, I hat it when the hammer decides to bend halfway down the handle just enough to whack a digit! Sorry about that. And sorry about the rapid succession of questions, I was quite medicated this morning and was typing without a brain filter.

Yeah, I hate that bendable hammer too! Damn tip of my finger was pulsing while I layed in bed lol
Never worry about asking questions. Medicated or otherwise! :peace:

Don't sweat the red dust from the Hydroton. It doesn't hurt anything in the system, just settles out in the bottoms of the pots/res. You will have less each time you use it.

Hows your clones doing in your new clone machine? Mine not so good, not dead, not dried out looking but starting to yellow and no roots yet. The pump I put in it I believe is way to big (mag 5) and creates to much heat for a bucket. I'm wishing I had a chiller that I could utilize as needed. Thinking maybe I'll order one before the weekend.
