AIO vs DIY Monotub: Purple Mystic Takes On Blue Meanie Cubes

Woot woot indeed!

The Purple Mystic mycelium is hella vigorous; measured the temp of the 2 grain bags and the PM-X is running several degrees warmer and you can see much more condensation on the inside of the grain bag. Because it's running a little slower I decided to wait and let the BMC thicken up before "planting" it.

I also checked the temperature in the Purple Mystic AIO; around the top it reads around room temperature but the bottom is 86.1F! There's so much condensation I could not get a decent photo through the bag. Removed the binder clip and did an air exchange. I see a lot of little bumps on the surface of the media that could be pins, but can't see them clearly enough to say for sure.

Hey Tok! Doing well, today my second bag of compost substrate should arrive and both the BMC and the PM-X grain bags look ready to go so today I'll "plant" them both. The PM AIO looks ready to start producing any time, so I'm checking it daily.
I saw your shroom diary- looking good and healthy.

Substrate day! 26 days after inoculating the Blue Meanie Cubes and 24 days after for the Purple Mystic-X-periment, both 3 pound grain bags have been mixed with 5 pounds each of Dung Loving Mushroom Substrate from MushroomSupplies.com. Performed another FAE on the AIO, WOO HOO
Should start seeing some pins in the tubs within a couple weeks. AIO could be anytime.

Amazing! In the grain, the Purple Mystic was more aggressive. Now in substrate, the Blue Meanie is just taking off. The growth in both after just 2 days is phenomenal. Cool!

The first batch displayed a lot of bluing and was really potent. I also like that they seemed to open in the afternoon so catching them before the veil breaks was easier. Purple Mystic seems to like opening in the dark, just the opposite.

I think I can see some shrooms in the AIO. Here's photos for the day:

That confirms it- Spore Genetics Purple Mystic spores produce night blooming shrooms!

Speaking of which, I just discovered the first baby shrooms on the AIO, so I carefully extracted the cake from the bag and placed it a 16Qt tub and added a second 16Qt tub, both Sterilte 1644, for a humidity dome. I sprayed 3% Hydrogen Peroxide on the inside cover to sterilize it, wet it, and as the HP breaks down, it will release oxygen. Took some pictures too, of course!

AIO is going nuts. Pins everywhere and soon it will be covered with fruit. Did another FAE at noon. The other 2 monotubs are completely colonized now and showing primordia. Shrooms can't be too far off now in both of them, too.

Did an FAE on all 3 containers this morning. May see the first broken veil as soon as late tonight or tomorrow on the Purple Mystic AIO. Both monotubs are forming pins now.

1st harvest from the Purple Mystic is complete this morning and weighed in at 78 grams. Not a huge haul but that's all the broken veils so far and there's a lot more to come. Put 'em in the oven at 125F to dry. FAEs all around!

I get them dry to the touch in the oven at 125F for 12-18 hours, then put them in a sealed container with silica gel for a few days until cracker dry. Next I put them in zip lock bags and put them in the freezer. A vacuum heat sealer would be better than zip lock bags but I don't want to drop the dime. Dehydrated and frozen they'll keep for years.

Edited to add: Prop the oven door slightly open with a spoon or whatever so air can circulate in the oven or they turn and get yucky.

Heya Con I use a food dehydrator 140-150 degrees overnight (8ish hours) and they're usually cracker dry for me. Into a jar.

2nd Harvest of the 1st flush of the Purple Mystic AIO. Added 50mL of distilled water to the tub. Today's haul was 105g, so the running total is now 183g fresh. Off to the oven for dehydration!

3rd harvest of 1st flush from the Purple Mystic AIO. Today I pulled 56 grams from the tub and put them in the oven to dry. Running total is now 239 grams. Still a lot more maturing on the cake. Here's a photo of the harvest.
