Hi dajerm,
I’ve been away for awhile, wow lots going on over here, just caught up the last 15 pages....very interesting problems going on over here. Your problems may have helped me pin point my own issues I’ve been dealing with.
First, great job on groot#1, and dealing with the issues, and salvaging a good harvest. It’s hard to troubleshoot, because none of us are experts, but we are all learning together.
As you and others pointed out your seedy buds are from the plant growing male flowers, and pollinating itself, whether you saw the flowers or not, they were there. The small seeds indicate this happened in late flower. Were there any mature seeds?
The plant did this because it was stressed in some way, and it could be a Panama pheno that gets stressed easily. Since you have said this happens to most of your past grows, I think the stress is environmentally induced. Something or someone is doing something to stress these plants. Now stress comes in many forms:
Photo period interuptions / inconsistent light schedules
Pests/ pathogens
Excessive heat
Excessive light intensity
Plant problems, roots, soil, light burn,
Too much/ too little nutrients
Plant genetics
Excessive pruning
And the list goes on
Now obviously Groot was stressed, she got burnt up after the super drench you did. You could see that. Were your other plants that did this burnt up as well?
I’m not saying this IS the problem, but more along the line that you MUST consider it a possibility, and a strong one at that.
Now the interesting part.
I have been struggling with two plants I love, bubblegum and Cinderella 99. They are exihibiting the same growth mutation that Groot#2 is. Weird twisted leafs, three bladed leaves, tons of fluffy pre-flowers, just not happy. They have been vegging under 18/6 for 5 months and are showing improvement, but still are not right. I’m thinking...wow dajerm is having the same problem I’m having. I don’t think it is the soil, cus I have others that are fine in the same batch.
But then it hit me. Back last Dec I was growing out a whole pack of Cinderella 99 regular seeds, along with my keepers. An important note here is that my Bubblegum and Cinderella females always have distinct preflowers in veg, 1 calyx with 2 stigmas (some call them pistils) sticking out at every node. I did not catch one of the male Cinderella’s in time and it released pollen in my veg room. I thought no big deal. Well after I moved them to the flower room, I was pruning up some lower growth, I noticed the swollen calyx bract, and to my surprise it contains a seed. The pollen released in the veg room, fertilized these preflowers on all my BG and C99 females. After harvest I thought it was great, seedless bud, with a dozen or so seeds that were in these node bracts....best of both worlds! Well let’s back up a bit, I took my clones from these (unknown to me at this time) fertilized vegging females, before I flipped them. Those clones and the clones of those clones have not been right since then.
When a plant gets fertilized, hormones change within, and the energy and purpose is shifted to grow seeds. When I took clones of those plants, those clones had the same hormonal changes going on, as they are exact replicas of the same age, even though they are small little things. I think those clones were “confused” and thus reacted with the mutated growth, just like Groot#2.
The question I have, and we might not ever know, is was Groot#1 fertilized before you took clones of her? That’s why I ask if there were any mature seeds, not just the tiny ones.
After 7 months of veg, my BG is showing signs of getting better....I’ve taken clones of her from parts of the plant that looked normal, and those clones seem to be normal.
My C99 is still struggling though.
It just goes to show how simple things are easy to overlook, when searching for an answer. I have to thank you for sharing your struggles, as you may have well helped me inadvertently figure out mine!
