Aberration Goes Ker Bloom! - Perpetual

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

I flushed KK2 hard again, but this time she drained really slowly. How would y'all correct the soil pH? Maybe use a low pH on the feed?

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

I took some clones today. I took a total of 25, half-filling the clone tray in a checkerboard pattern. I got 5 from PS.1A (Purple Sage), 3 from MT1 and 2 from MT2 (Matanuskan Thunderfuck), 5 from BD.1C (Blue Dream), 3 from CryLo.1A (Crystal Locomotive), 2 from KK2.1C (Kaia Kush), and 5 from G13xGB.1H (G13xGodBud).

I only took 3 CryLo because I only have one plant to clone from and she's still smallish. I only took 2 KK because I have a crapload already. The only strain I have that I didn't clone is Lavender. All five of those that I have are still much too small to clone without topping and I don't want to do that with these.

I'm trying to get a nice cascade of veg plants going and I want to minimize numbers. I wish either Dr. Tissue Sample or BriansBrain would give a walkthru on how to do their thing. I would rather have a bit of plant in the fridge that I make clones from as I need. I assume I could re-make the thing periodically and maintain a huge strain library without having a large number of plants. That would be absolutely ideal.

Anyway, here are the new clones, all butchered and drenched in clone food. I sprayed the dome, put it on, and put the whole mess under my light. Now we wait again. It's a fun game:

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

I couldn't sleep, so I decided to start an experiment. I am trying to airclone. Here's what I did.

First, I selected a test subject. I went with KK2.1C because she is expendable and a good size for the experiment. She is 19" tall and healthy:

20100313Aber-03-airclone.jpg

I gathered the supplies. A clean new razor blade, a Rapid Rooter coco plug, a little piece of panda plastic (I cut from a bag), Rootech rooting gel, plant tape, and a skinny little bamboo stake:

20100313Aber-04-airclone.jpg

I sliced the coco plug to the center:

20100313Aber-05-airclone.jpg

I picked an easy branch to try this with. I sliced it on three sides, along the stem, just enough to break the outer skin. Each slice was about 1" long. Then I used a clean craft stick to smear the rooting gel over the sliced area:

20100313Aber-06-airclone.jpg

I opened the coco plug and gently placed it around the gelled stem, careful to leave the gel in place as best I could:

20100313Aber-07-airclone.jpg

Then I wrapped the plastic around the plug (it went around about twice, and taped the loose end down. I bundled the bottom loosely and taped that together too. Then I tied the whole thing to my little stake, to keep the weight from breaking the branch. Now we wait a week and then take a peek:

I'll keep the coco moist with my rooting spray in the meantime. Sorry about the crap lighting.

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

It was just an idea I had while cloning. Seems like it should work well. It also keeps the plant numbers down until you actually cut it off. Before that it's still firmly attached to the mother. I wonder what kind of reaction it will have when I cut it loose?

Bd is close to harvest. Probably next weekend. Her trichs are about 70% milky. She's ready. She's at 66 of 70 days.

I think I see signs of the same deficiencies I have been seeing in KK2 starting in G13xGB. If course she's only got a bit under 3 weeks left. They are both at day 35; KK2 goes about 70-75 days but g13xGB only goes about 55 days. So both are getting preflush and feed at pH 6.0. Everyone else's preflush is at 6.3 now.\

The three new girls in bloom (G13xGB.1A, PS.1E, and KK2.1B) are doing great. I'm not worried about them right now.

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

I took pictures from bloom for y'all. I know I've been slacking. :bong:

I turned on some floros instead of the HIDs at their 'dawn' and tried to take pics that way. There wasn't enough light at all, and I still suck with a camera. Some pictures came out, but others are not so good. I need more practice. If only I could quit my day job and just take pictures of pot until I'm good at it...

... yeah right. Life is still good. Cannabis gardening is the greatest hobby ever. :Rasta:

First, here is KK2 (Kaia Kush). She is on day 37 of 75 and is 59" tall:

20100315Aber-02-kk2.jpg

20100315Aber-03-kk2.jpg

Here is G13xGB (G13 x GodBud). She is on day 37 of 55 and is 60" tall. I tried, but there is no good angle where I could back far enough away to get her all in, so the first pic is just the upper half. She's about the same size as KK2:

20100315Aber-10-g13xgb.jpg

Again, due to space constraints, I just couldn't get BD (Blue Dream) all in the picture, so I start with an over/under pair. She is on day 67 of 70 and almost done. She is 52" tall:

20100315Aber-11-bd.jpg

20100315Aber-16-bd.jpg

Here are the three new girls. No buds to show yet as they are only 9 days into bloom, but I put them here to round out bloom.

First, PS.1E (Purple Sage) at 32". Pay attention to the main stem thickness and compare it to the next two girls. PS has thick stalks. You can attribute it to distortion based on inconsistent distance for the photos, but trust me, that's pretty accurate. It seems to be a thing with this strain:

20100315Aber-17-ps_1e.jpg

Then KK2.1B at 35" tall:

20100315Aber-18-kk2_1b.jpg

Last, here's G13xGB.1A, who is 36" tall:

20100315Aber-19-g13xgb_1a.jpg

Finally, a shot of them all, in their room, tucked into place under the HIDs:

God that blue dream looks orgasmic...

I just don't know if I can follow this journal anymore. I am going to go INSANE watching this mastery knowing full well I cannot get my grow on until I get to a medical state.

Are you gonna bend any of the new blooming girls over or what?

Are you going to replace BD immediately once shes done, or are you gonna wait for the other 2 to finish, and then do another set of 3?

Shit will get really busy for you feeding wise if you stagger the flowering stages too much, won't it?

Are you going to top/bend any of your veg plants now, or in the near future, to get them to grow a little less Christmas treeish? I know you are not trying to go trees anymore, but?

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

I gave away 3 plants in 1 gallon bags:

G13xGB.1G, BD.1C, KK2.1D

I also gave away 12 plants in 3.5" pots:

KK2.1E, KK2.1K, KK2.1T,
KK2.1U, KK2.1V, KK2.1X,
KK2.1HH, KK2.1JJ, KK2.1KK,
KK2.1NN, KK2.1PP,
G13xGB.1JJ

That makes for quite a bit more elbow room on the veg table.

Yeah, the Blue Dream looks great. :yahoo: Just a few more days. I'll probably replace her right away, mostly because I need to keep this rolling. I would prefer fewer mixes every feed, but I'll survive. ;)

As for bending, I've been thinking about it, but probably not yet. I need tree style plants, just not as big as they have been. That's why the last three went in at about 2' tall. That should be more manageable. I have been considering a couple experiments that involve bending though. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Feed report soon...

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

I measured the runoff from each of the bloom plants directly last night:

Code:
Plant pH
--------------------
KK2 6.17
G13xGB 6.14
BD 6.37
G13xGB.1A	6.75
KK2.1B 6.67
PS.1E 6.90

It's pretty clear that either the food or the soil (or both) need to be adjusted. Or I could just start adjusting the feed pH to a lower number. To start with, I will correct the last three, and I'm going to change my pre-flush pH back to 6.20. We'll see if that is enough. Only KK2 and G13xGB show any issues at the moment, and I think they are back on track now.

I also have re-thought my assumption about what the runoff pH says about the soil pH. Near the bottom of the pot the soil probably has the same pH as the runoff. Above that it probably gets better on a gradient. So I think using the runoff value directly is probably more accurate that I thought. Can anyone corroborate that?

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

Why don't you use PGE in veg?

Love your grow, please continue your journal!!!!

I used to have a complicated recipe for veg like I do for bloom, but I simplified it to save time and nutes. Since it's veg, it doesn't really affect taste any. So the PGE got simplified right out. I like the complex flavors I get from the bloom recipe though, so I haven't messed with it too much.

Thank you and :welcome:.

--> BD (bloom, final flushing):

1. Flush: 2 gallons water
   Per gal:
	 2 T Clearex
   pH adjusted to 6.03 @ 20.8 C

That should be the last liquid BD gets. I'm thinking tomorrow night will be the best time to harvest. G13xGB is scheduled to come down in two weeks on the 2nd of April. She sure needs to pack on some bud between now and then. Clearly I need to go with smaller tree-style plants for that strain.

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

Beautiful grow and great journal bro!

I notice you use Clearex. Have you checked the ingredients?

A little sucrose and glucose, but it doesn't smell like just sugar water, so I'm going to look into it and see what's up.

Great job!

I'm totally jealous, lol

I got it for using Dutchmasters Gold in soil, noticed it was sucrose and glucose....wonder what you could use on the cheap that would be a substitute? I am gonna do the every two week mini flush and a final pre harvest flush with the Clearex. And yeah it doesn't smell like sugar water at all...has a mild solvent smell. Dutchmasters Gold part A Grow on the other hand smells like sweet dishsoap or something, threw me totally off guard when I opened it...:grinjoint:

I just love your gigantic plants Abberration. What is the average yield on monsters like that? :smokin:

:peace: brother.

Re: Aberration Goes ker Bloom! - 2009

Yeah, I noticed that seems a common issue with nutes. I would prefer to see where the overlaps are and maybe deliver the same thing in a different configuration. I know why though.

They brew some of this stuff up in ways that do not necessarily repeat with any exactness. So the numbers vary from batch to batch. And to put it on the label legally they have to pay a butt-load to get it tested by an independent lab. Than they get spot checked for variances. I imagine if they can sell it without stating what's really in it, they're going to avoid all that and just sell it poorly labeled. The alternative is to spend a butt-load more on better equipment and all the tests. To sell to stoners.

So it's not really all that surprising. But no less annoying.

I actually don't know. My best ever was 45 oz between two Orange Cream. But it was such crap. Too bad. I've not done these two strains this big, and hopefully I won't be doing anything this big ever again. Well, not in this grow room anyway. :cheesygrinsmiley: There's not enough room.

However, my ~4' TBD1 did almost 10 oz, and most of my plants have done 6-8. Lavender barely got 4 oz, but worth every bit. Especially after only 45 days. I'm super-pleased to have it again.

At the size of these big girls though, half the bud is hash makin' material. Only the top and outside edges produces acceptable bud. I'm picky. I prefer nugs. 🤷 Not that hash is bad mind you, but more bud would be just fine. I can always hash up kind bud if it comes to that. :thedoubletake:

Thanks for coming by. :smokin:
