Re: A poll to see what kind of nutes are prefered.

i feel like im doing some thing wrong with my FF produtcs, as far as getting what i think is mg def. idk if its the soil FFOF or the nutes ( i have the whole line) or my water. but this is my 3rd time same problem. different plants.

Re: A poll to see what kind of nutes are prefered.

lol 3rd times a charm huh. mg def is a really common problem with almost all nutes cuz mj eats a lot of mg so you need epsom salts, cal-mag, or one of many other products out there will help you.

My understanding is that MJ requires a Mg PPM level of 60 for optimum growing conditions. This is easily supplied by GH Flora nutes without additions. I'd bet that the majority of Mg deficiencies could be attributed to the nutrient being locked out due to another nutrient being in too high concentrations.

Found this quote on the web. "Mg can get locked-up by too much Ca, Cl or ammonium nitrogen. Don't overdo Mg or you'll lock up other nutrients."

Cal-Mag will add calcium along with the magnesium so if your issue was caused by elevated Ca levels, adding cal-mag will exacerbate the problem rather than correct it. I would suggest a flush with a product like Clearex first then a fresh set of nutrients meeting the basic needs of the plant before adding additional nutes to a reservoir.

This is for hydro setups though. For soil, I would have to defer to others who have more experience, though a good flush of your pots before adding nutes may help. Have you (or can you) foliar feed the Mg to your plants?

This is spot on MUNKI.Yes you can foliar feed the MG. That would be the best way to get it to the plant immediately for faster results. But I suggest a "wetting"(ex: Dutchmasters Penetrator)agent. This will allow the stomata to open more then usual, and allow MAXIMUM penetration. Yes a flush is definetly in order, along w/ a mild feeding solution fallowing the flush.

hes not using flora. also flora does well with some cal mag added to it.

Very true it does, the only thing is that strains vary in nute uptake, so the extra CAL can cause the lock out that Munki speaks of. My indicas love the magical i add...(((BUT))) if I add it to the basic regimine of nutes for the sativa's, I can count on an INSTANT LOCK-OUT.

So my suggestion is that if your not to sure what to do, i would say Flush as Munki stated, then once its time for the next feeding use 1/4 strength then work your way up. And if the deficiency continues, then foliar feed the MG. And yes, you can buy MG by itself. Ask your local grow shop if they carry it. There are many brands to choose from. I would try to stick w/ whatever company nutes you are using now.

Very interesting indeed. Taking notes here.

Re: A poll to see what kind of nutes are prefered.

same here, always got mag deficiency with Flora Nova nutes, had to add cal-mag

i just got the Canna line for hydro, will see how a run of them go....i can't find much info on folks who use, have used Canna....anyone?

kind regards,

Seems to me once my plants reach a certain height under Flora nute schedule they will always get Mg def without cal-mag I haven't had it the other way around though - Mg lockout because of cal-mag.

Re: A poll to see what kind of nutes are prefered.

I am somewhat a newie still but I do invite others to check out my grows in my SIG and see if they notice any nutrient deficiencies. I've never added anything except products from the GH Flora series (including florablend tea on 1st grow and floralicious + on both grows.) Maybe it is the differences in water; I use RO from a water store but maybe others are using well water or something with elevated calcium that is locking out magnesium. So, another thing to try with the issue is to with RO water when mixing nutrient solutions.

Butcher, for sourcing a Mg only product, the epsom salt (MgSO4) should be fine for the foliar feed, correct?

Re: A poll to see what kind of nutes are prefered.

Thanks butcher for setting up the poll. I have been lookin into foxfarm nutes but couldn't make a decision between that and humboldt. After seeing the results i am gonna go ahead and use foxfarm soil bundle. 5 star thread :D
