5 Unknown Strains - 2012 Grow

Awesome LESSON Wiz! REPS! I have my veggers on GLR and with Supercropping, LST I already have a LOT of nodes on the lateral branching...Depending on the plant, I usually top the plant above the 4th set of fan leaves...and away we go! GLR most definitely ROCKS:cheesygrinsmiley:

Thanks H. Good to know there are growers who support GLR. Not trying to dis 18/6-16-8 at all just wanted to point out the difference so other growers wont be scared to use it. I think GLR is just great because you can cut down on electricity and run other equipment if necessary or more grows for that matter. Its also for growers who are scared or nervous to go with a 1000w lamp because of the high wattage. Make a 1000w usage look like a 600w usage on your bill. etc.

PS. Just since you mentioned about depending on the strain. GLR probably wouldnt be great for sativa dominate plants. Since they grow thin and tall. IMO I think sativas would be great for SOG for sure. Thats what im doing with my Cheese Wiz Qush.

I don't have huge electric bills, but they are as high as I can afford...Since my AC is 37 yo and not as energy efficient as the new models I opted for a new one to see if it does reduce my energy costs...then I will know exactly what my budget is...and if I can go to a 600w from 400w...although what I have seems to work well, I know light penetration is very important.:cheesygrinsmiley:

Yea your set up is coming along great. I would like to see a 600w in your grow. Ive been needing to upgrade my light but I wasnt doing so until this grow is over. My electric bill is under 100 each month and thats including the usage of my whole whole house. Im still trying to see the full potential this 400w can do. So im going to run a full SOG grow and see if I can get the weight per watt.

Nice, everything is coming along.

Because I am growing my new plants under a t5ho, I don't want to switch to 12-1 until the last two weeks or so of veg, only to promote faster switch to flower.

I think the t5h0 saves enough power on electric to run it 20-4.

The power saving is just a plus to running GLR. You should look at the difference between the 2 lighting schedules and the effect they will have on plants again. I described the difference why I run GLR and 16/8.

Wiz, yeah, i saw that and I agree, but you keep your lights on 24 hours a day with a t5h0 and will still get short node length, even for a sativa like Purple Haze.

4 feet x 4 bulbs, can veg 4 plants for a while before transfering to HID. Only uses 216w, can easily be run at 18-6, but I am running 20-4. No reason to run 24 hours. I am pretty sure too that when they do go to flower, they will still stretch, something you lose with the 12-1 lighting.

It doesn't produce much heat either.

I was running 8 four foot t5ho lights 24/7 for a month my electric bill raised by only like 25-30 bucks. However with that said, doing a GLR lighting is basically half that so only 12-15 bucks a month more.

Ok once again it's not about the tight nodes. Any lighting will get you tight nodes as long as the light is a good distance from the canopy. As I described its about lateral & branch/bud sites growth. 16/8-18/6 will get you a 1-2ft main cola. GLR will get you a a nice size main cola also but not as long, but it will give you alot more branching/bud sites to work with. If you look at the pictures again you will see a huge difference with the tightness of bud sites. That once again is the reason why I pointed out the difference in lighting schedule. Again anything extra is a bonus.

Ill be doing a huge update tomorrow

wizz, yeah, a more bushy plant. t5's are doing that for me right now.

Side branches is almost level with future top colas. I topped her once, so she will have two main colas. The two branches at the right and left are not the colas, they are side branches. The future colas are hidden by the large leaf in the photo.

allthough lighting is very important if you really want a big solid cola you need a mature plant.IMO the nodes will always be tighter because of the stagger either GLR or 18/6. again just an observation:)

This fall fishy, we are gonna see just how big a mature plant cola can get :)

. Thanks JJ. I will do an update as soon as the lights come on
