42 Year Old Bag Seed!

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

I still have the first plant I started indoors. It is about 5' tall and just keeps popping colas. I let em grow then cut em off and cure and it just keeps popping them. Just before Christmas it will be 2 years old.

Was wondering how this is achieved? Not being a smart ass, honestly interested.

Really interesting thread, can't wait to see flowering

Some growers keep their plants in flower. When a certain cola is mature enough, you can harvest that cola. This still leaves the plant to produce more colas in an effort to get pollinated. If you do this tho, its gonna need a BIG ASS pot. Hope that helps.

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

Ok now that you popped over here the pressure is on! :cheesygrinsmiley: We gotta have pics man ...

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

LOL NP on the pics guys. Just have to set up the background so I don't give away location.

LighTer is correct. You can keep a plant in flower and just trim the colas. As long as it doesn't get pollinated it will just keep popping them. The one thing I learned from growing Roses and Lillies is how to prolong flowering but you do need to rest the plant too. In early June I cut the plant back till late Sept., then set the light to flowering and wala it goes right back to making colas, just like any other plant.

For my (for lack of a better name) Permaplant, I have it in, what is called around here, a deck planter. The pot is 3 foot high and 3 foot around made from ceramics. It was originally potted in MG potting soil but I amended it with my own compost. It gets watered when it rains or from a cache I have. and I do not use nutes on it till Dec.-Feb. I can tell you if also weights a bunch! When the temps really go down I have to move it using a jack and dolly.

I have a couple of pics when it was started before I repotted it.

Its a bit larger now but cut back.

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

Welcome to the grow!:welcome:

Woke up this morning and had to go play with the plants. Its gonna be a busy week with Drs., hospitals and all that entails so I had to get everything ready. Made up a new batch of tea and nutes incase Mom in law or wife have to feed the plants.

Lil Monster goes out on to the porch today. It has finally started to recover from getting shinged. Its growing new leaves but I believe it will always be a mini so I'm going to turn it into a houseplant.

Ozzie has just about taken over the growbox!!! It just keeps on spreading out. I measured the longest limb and its 20' long! Perfect plant for scrogging so next week I will be building a new Box just for it.

Harriet is getting bushy and starting to gain height.

Runt has blown my mind! Its fan leaves are huge and it is truely a bush. I'm thinking about FIMming it more but not sure, lets see how this week goes.

Right after these plants started growing I was wondering if they were all the same strain. Harriet and Runt definitely are. Mini, I guess we will never know. Ozzie? Ozzie's growing medium is a lil different from Harriets and Runts in that I added some of the soil from around here and it has alot of clay to it and I'm wondering if that is the reason it is speading out so much.

Every 10 days or so I send off a bit of the soil to the state agricultural dept for testing(hey, its free and they can test better than I can), I got my results back today. PH is dead on 6.8. Cal/mag are a little high but I like it. Phos is good and salts are very low(good thing!) Looks like the nutes are working as advertised.

Small note on bottom states "found in your samples are alot of fresh worm castings which may result in soil being too light. We recommend additional applications of compost to feed farmer helpers and to anchor root system."

Got a question for you all. Has anyone done any splicing of their plants? Its just a wild thought that has been bouncing around in my head(usually when I have a buzz on). I have spliced roses inorder to get certain results in flowering but haven't had the oppertunity with MJ. Sort of like, toning down a super couch lock with a pick me up.
I dont see why it wouldn't work being we are working with the same genes(aint like I want to splice MJ with corn to make gassedahol. I can see it now "No officer I aint stoned my car is!").

Enough mouth diarriha on with the pics!!!!

Many years ago I researched slicing. I found research done by the US Army back in WWII when they were experimenting with many "soft" bombs (wanted to explode them in atmosphere and subdue the enemy w/ no physical damage). They looked at MJ as a chemical to use. They even "spliced" MJ roots to Hops plant and thought the vine would yield something much better. Didn't work for increased potency but from what I remember, MJ is a great candidate to splice. Also there is a technique called "Air Cloning" a kind of splice where one starts roots from the stem above grade from a slice in the stem and wrapped with something like Sphangham Moss (can never spell it correctly). I've done that. Much, much harder than a simple cut and root in one's choice of techniques. Also has low success rates.
I often thought of crossing MJ by splicing. It might speed up the process towards stable hybrids, but then again... DO IT!
Always good stuff to learn about here. Best site I've found, best people!!!

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

Thanks for the comments all.

Buck, Knew you'd like the pics. Wife wondered why I take all the pics, told her Its like men washing dishes, if you aint got pics it didn't happen!

Deege, They just started on 12/12 so it will be a couple of weeks before they start getting any nugs.

Big, I will be keeping the genetics as pure as I can. I just wish I could grow em outdoors like they should be. As for males not sure yet, I know I have 2 females due to pistils starting, I really am hoping to get a male!

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

as an old nam vet i am honored to seeds sprout from that country. i smoked a lot of killer pot while there. i bet it will be awesome! GL

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

7/26/12 Update.

Done with the Drs, hospitals and silly shyte for a while.

Had wife and Mom in law taking care of the plants for a few days and did I miss playing with them!!!
Only problem was that Runt went a little crazy on me and touched a bulb and burnt the end of one leaf. Wondered what that smell was!!! I have come to the conclusion that I need a bigger box!

I have had the plants on 12/12 now for 12 days and only Ozzie is showing any real pistils and not very many of those. Harriet is showing a couple but not as many as I thought would be out(Compared to previous grows), guess its the genes working them out or the MJ gods teaching me patience.

They are all stretching like mad and I am constantly having to LST them, adjust the lights(having to raise the lights about 1/2" a day) and FIM them. I guess its the genes doing this too. Apparently there are no short VN MJ plants!!!

Took Mini monster out of the box and its now officially a houseplant. I set it on a south facing window sill and now its starting to actually grow.

My closest neighbor stopped in this morning and while sitting on the porch was admiring the mom in laws gardens and asked about what I was using on them. Since I was mixing up a bunch of my tea I gave him a 5 gallon bucket. I am now up to making 25 gallons at a shot. I have been selling some of it at one of the local nurseries. The manager there notified me that if I keep up the sales I will have to register at the local government agriculture dept. Seems he is getting inquiries about bulk sales from some of the upscale lawncare people. Will I ever get to totally retire???????

I have completely stopped feeding the plants FF growbig and only using FF Big Bloom plus my additives (maybe that will slow their growth! I wanna see some buds!!!!!

Told the CFO(wife) that I was thinking about getting some grow lights and was not so politely vetoed. Oh well, guess I need to grease those skids a bit more! :)

Well enough of my rambling. On to the pics!!!! Oh! Have a question. Is there such a thing as too many pictures?

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

Those are really looking healthy. I would think there would be more bud development but you are dealing with an unknown so with a few pistils showing the excitement builds.

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

Was just looking at the post and the picture of the whole box interior looked weird! It looks so small. The box's interior is 30" deep X 46" wide x 60" tall.

just the optics playing tricks on you :cheesygrinsmiley: I think it looks great! Are you going to make clones just in case?
