42 Year Old Bag Seed!

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

good looking plants but I will agree with the General if you are 12/5.5/1/5.5 schedule they will not flower. Just cut the hour of light in the middle out and you will be on 12/12. Within a couple of weeks you should start seeing flowers if not sooner.

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

If 3 weeks of 12/12 does not work, try 11/13 or 10/14 (light/dark). Some tropical sativas are on 12/12 all year round and are slow to start.

I second that motion :) ha ha

I'd probably drop it down to 11/13 pretty soon, it should give her a nice push to know the season is ending soon and start throwing out flowers.

If you don't see any activity within a week or two after, it should probably be dropped down to 10/14

Because it is an equatorial sativa you could probably be looking at anywhere from 12 to 14 weeks possibly even more for her to complete flowering so she will end up getting pretty huge.

She will grow up to 3 X the size that she is when flowering begins.

The drop in daylight hours should speed up this process so it wont take as many weeks and she should not grow as huge.

:peace:

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

I am trying super hard to maintain the breed and do realize the rarity of these seeds. So far, myself, my Dr(who is also a botanist) and my brother have or are trying to grow this set of seeds. I am wanting a male so bad so as to get some seed/pollen.

You should be using the shotgun approach ... do it all at once!

Meaning

Take clones and throw them on 12/12 (to sex them)
Take clones right away and use methods to make them males (this will yield only female seed)
Grow another weed of your choice for a male (if you don't get one) and square your girls...

I will explain any of this in detail if you wish to pursue any and all

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

WE GOT Buds!!!!!!!!

Read what everyone commented and yes I even cornfussed myself!!! To make this simple(*smacks self in forehead with brick* KISS KISS KISS!!!). I had the plants on 12/12 for approx 2 1/2 weeks and plants were stretching. In order to get a bit more stretch I changed it to 12/ 5 1/2 / 1 / 5 1/2 then went to 11/13. I had it on 11/13 for 1 1/2 weeks to see it any more stretch and to kind of jump start flowering.

Well, this morning I checked the plants and Ozzie is still growing, no flowering but Harriet and Runt are flowering and showing buds like mad!!!!!!

Wish I had a better camera.

Sorry for the confusion. I am really hoping Ozzie starts to follow suit soon. As far as I can tell both Harriet and Runt are female.

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

sounds like you got it on the money, be careful with playing around with light schedules it can cause those eq sativas to hermy easily ,some strains landrace/heirloom strains are a totally hermy variety that most are and the rare plant is the ones that only show 1 sex, but most of those that were used for breeding had the trait bred out mostly, ,also some can flower in the shade or under 24 hour weaker light but are not crossed with ruderallis
im very interested in your findings, hey as they flower look mid plant for a few male flowers on the girls if you find some, try collecting that pollen and dusting a few branches to get some 95% or better fem seeds, look up casey burns on youtube ,oh heck heres the link
enjoy :goodjob::high-five:

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

Man look at that pure sativa structure ... beautiful

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

OTD!! W O W.. You had me at the title! What a great story, and a great job thus far! You definitely have some beautiful pure sativas on your hands. I wonder their true genetics. I've watched a few Strain Hunter videos, and definitely think those guys would be interested in in the little beauties you have there!
I wish you lots of happy and successful growing! I can't wait to see how they turn out for you. Hopefully you can score a male and get a few hundred more seeds!!

8/13/12 Update

Been a busy week and I really haven't had time to do much except water the plants. Ozzie is still growing like mad with no indication of flowering. I pulled it out of the box today and tryed to lst it a bit but It is getting way to big for the box so I will be building a new box just for it. I was thinking about building it about 6 foot tall just to see how large this thing will get.

As for Harriet and Runt. Harriet is getting bushier every day with buds growing like mad. It is not going to be a tall plant but super bushy. Runt is doing the same as Harriet. It too is getting bud sites all over it.

I have had to raise the lights 2 1/2 inches this week, mostly due to Ozzie but parts of Harriet are getting up there too.

The lights have been on a 11/13 schedule and am thinking of adding a bit more darkness inorder to see if it will jumpstart Ozzie into flowering. Up till this last week I have watered and fed the plants every 3rd day but this week I had to start watering them every other day and they have almost double their consumption of water. I noticed that they had been looking a bit sad, drooping leaves so thats why I started the extra watering and they got happy within an hour so I increased the watering.

The cedar has been working well in that it has coverd the smell of the plants but also no more nosee'ems flying around. I have also noticed a willow spider has started living in the box(they eat aphids and not the plants) so I welcome it to the grow!

I'm looking at another busy week this week.

Enough babbleing so on with the show!!!!

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

good plan with the water you see how the leaves are curling and edges are curving inwards that can be an indicator that the plant is trying to hold onto and conserve its moisture, it can also be a ph issue or just the plant does that, but the only plant i know of that does that when nothing is wrong is super lemon haze a sativa so who knows, but in your case i think its water, they look good, damn i wanna grow some of those in a scrog ...my address is..... lol

8/15/12 update

They all be bloomin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Opened the box to water and feed the plants and surprise! surprise! surprise! They all gots buds! Even that slow poke Ozzie and if that wasn't a surprise enough, Mini Monster is blooming! Mini is showing pistils and isn't even in the box, its on a window sill. I guess it got jealous of Harriet and Runt.

Ozzie is still growing like mad. I measured it Sunday and it has grown 1 1/2 inches. For shyts and giggles I took a piece of string and measured the stalk from soil to tallest tip then measured the string and its 39". Not bad for being a 3 month old plant! Harriet and Runt both measure 16".

Enough talk on with the show!

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

OK, I recieved a couple of questions by new people reading this thread with the same questions. Yes, I do add earth worms to my soil. No they do not eat the roots, they eat part of the compost I use plus I add some dried banana peels(high in phosphous and potasium) approximately once a month for them to munch on. The earth worms are the regular old garden type(thats where I get them).

Being that I live in rural agricultural area and after talking to lots of the farmers around here they all praise the wigglers for airating the soil so I figured why not. I tryed it on some of my houseplants and saw a marked improvement in the soil and plants so if they helped them they would help MJ and I really do think they do. Plus if you read some of the grow threads on here you will see that alot of the soil additives use worm castings so why buy what you can get for cheap. And I like cheap!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

WAAAHHOO now you get to watch them develop which seems to take FOREVER. Looking good

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

General, Yep all female :( I really wanted a male but I still have some seeds left so when this grow is done I'll try those. But never can tell, might have one turn Morph.

I was hoping you would get 1 male so you can make seeds. Maybe next round. I can't wait to see the buds fill out! Yummmmmm!
