42 Year Old Bag Seed!

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

i have a tote full of red wiggler(composting worms) and make worm castings, dont add them to my soils as i fear they might die if the soil becomes hostile due to buildup, but i paid a few bucks for 100 worms now i have thousands, and will need to start new bins they eat most of our kitchen waste, they have favorite foods, bannas make them all come to the surface to get a bite, and soggy lettuce seems a favorite too, they are my kind of pet, they give back and eat my garbage with zeal!:thumb:
gratz on the ladies now things are gonna take off!

Re: 42 yr old bagseed!

BID, I used to do like you and was leary of putting worms in the soil but accidently got a couple in one of the pots and after the grow when I removed the soil I found the couple turned into a handful. Further research, both online and with my own plants I found that the worms actually help in keeping the salts and excess nute build up down.

GF, Thanks, The ladies are going good especially Harriet, she is getting her fluffies on very nicely.

8/18/12 Update

Before I get into the grow I got a little story to tell. I am into week 2 of my chemo(2nd go round) and to stave off the inevitable multible stops on the ride home I had the wife bake up some brownies for me. I usually eat 1 about an hour before the session ends so it has a chance to kick in before the ride. Well, the other day I was talking to a man and woman there and the man said that the ride home was really getting to be hard on his wife(she 52) due to having to stop the car for her to vomit. So, the other day I offered her one of my brownies (I call them my DHB, Diabetic Hash Brownies) and told her that when I eat these I dont get sick that much so she ate one. The next day her husband stopped by my chair and thanked me and asked where I got the brownies. He said that for the first time since she was on chemo that they not only got home ok but that she said she wanted to stop and get something to eat! I had to laugh and told him that I would have to get my wife to bake her up some. His wife then asked for the recipe and when the wife told her it was a MJ brownie, she laughed and said "So thats what its like to get stoned???" So now the wife is downstairs baking for 2.

Ok, On with the grow. The CFO(wife) said no to the extra box so I still have all 3, Ozzie, Harriet and Runt in the box and its getting quite crowded. I took Ozzie out the other day and started to retie it up to lst. When I lst I keep the branches circling the pot but Ozzie has gotten so large I ran out of room so am now going across the pot and he is filling that area up quickly. Harriet and Runt are quite content, growing bushier with Harriet really starting to make some nice buds. I will have to figure out how to get some more cfls in the box to get more light into the bottom and interior of the plants.

Harriets buds, I just got to get a better camera!

My brother stopped in for the weekend last night and couldn't get over the plants. My brother has and raises some of the most beautiful horses in the world but cant grow anything green. His last try he got a stick with 3 leaves on it before it died.

Hey, I want to thank all of you reading my grow and appriectiate all the comments. Some day, I hope our governments will wake up and realize that this is a viable industry and that we are giving valuable information and knowledge out to anyone.

Hello Oldrthandirt. ( and everyone else )
I am new to this whole Internet forum thing, but I had to follow this amazing journal!
I have been following 420 for about 2 years now, always peeking in from the outside. Too timid to say anything. But this one had me hooked straight away.
I can't wait to see the outcome of it all. So ya, count me in.

thats a great story!! not your in chemo but helping someone feel better:)
you should try the compassion argument with your CFO about another grow box:) that is unless she hates to bake:)
anyway nice plants and good luck:cheertwo:

8/25/12 Update

Howdy everyone. Been a busy week so I haven't been able to spend as much time with the plants as I would like, and that sucks! Ever notice that when you don't get to play with the plants you really start to miss that time? Got up this morning and the wife told me to get my butt upstairs and play with the plants because I was getting bitchy! I just had to look in the mirror to see if I looked like the guy in the snickers commercial! :)

With the weather changing the box got a bit hot and I found a bunch of lower leaves dead. Atleast thats what I think happened. It could be that the plants need more light and the dead leaves were shaded. I have stepped up the amount of FF Big Bloom to 1/2 strenght. Looking at the plants, Ozzie has blooms all over it but they aren't very big yet. Its running about 2 weeks behind Harriet and Runt, which are building buds like mad. Harriets buds are filling in but aren't getting full yet, thats why I stepped up the Big Bloom.

Got the latest dept of Agri test back and the PH has gone up a little and I am working on getting that back to normal. I test with my meter and it has been reading 6.8 but I trust the DoA's test better. The RH has been a bit low also so I hung a damp sponge in the box to get it higher. I normally like it about 75 - 80%.

Once this grow is done I'm going to work on the wife to let me build a larger box(higher) so I can just let the plants stretch like mad. By saying work I mean bribery! Shes been wanting to go to Vegas for a few days.

Enough listening to me babble(chemo has my voice sounding like a munchkin) on with the pictures.

Those are looking really good OTD for not pampering them. It won't be long now

9/2/12 Update

These plants are driving me nuts!!!! Let me explain. Harriet and Runt are building buds like there is no tomorrow but Ozzie stopped and is starting to stretch like mad. I have had to water them every 3 days and they are taking about 12 oz of water each time. Harriet has been lst so much that some of her branches go around the pot 3 times. Runts buds are getting so thick and long. Later this week I will pull them out of the box and do a bunch of pics just to showoff.

Mini Monster is still growing well in the window and its definitely female, so no males on this grow, she is starting to bud nicely. The wife says that Mini has more hair than I do now. :)

I got invited over to my Drs house this week and got to see how his plants are doing. I gave him 3 seeds this spring so he could try growing some plus to use for research. He has a huge greenhouse that he uses since he is a botanist on the side and when he showed me the plants I had a hard time believing it. The 2 plants he has growing are approximately 5 foot tall and each plant is about 4 foot around(sorry, no pics per his request). Like Mini and runt his plants have huge fan leaves(larger than my hands) and are just starting to show sex(females).

When I showed him pictures of my grow and told him about Ozzie he said it was most likely due to lack of CO2 that since Runt and Harriet are already flowering they are taking all the CO2 from the jug and Ozzie is happy to be just growing. Sounded plausible to me.

As for mine. I had been adding FF Big Bloom plus my additives at 1/2 strenght every other feeding but since seeing Harriet and Runt budding so well I upped it to full strenght and they are thriving so I will keep it going.
I am thinking about pulling Ozzie out of the box and going into the window sill since she stopped budding and that will give Harriet and Runt alot more room to bloom and possibly give alot more light penetration. I also started taking the RH down from 70-80% to 50% since Runts buds are so thick and I dont want to start any bud rot. I have been rather concerned with Harriets tendency for her leaves to curl under(looks like nute or water deficency) so I have been really keeping and eye on the nutes with my meter. I have had no nute deficency readings and I got the DoA test results back yesterday and everything is right on the money so I think its just a character trait and Ozzies has the same thing going on so I will keep an eye on it anyway.

Its been 6 weeks of flowering and I did a flush Tuesday to ensure no salts build up and everyone has been doing well. I will probably do another 3 week before harvest then start doing nothing but water.

Well, enough of my jabbering on to the pics.

i have never heard of anything but light causing a plant to stop flowering its a hormone /auxin that causes a plant to flower,to much light destroys the auxin, so they flower since they think autumn is coming,:yummy: that plant may need less light than the others, try removing her to a dark place or covering her with a lightproof plastic bag or something,:hmmmm: i have heard that low co2 can slow growth, but to my knowledge it does not effect hormone levels
what are you lights set for? most strains will flower with 12 hours UNINTERRUPTED darkness but some need as much as 14 to flower well,:rollit: they do look healthy and happy,:MoreNutes: i have to water my plants every day both in soil and coco, or the growth slows and the begin wilting if i skip a day,
hope this helps:thumb:

9/7/12 update.

Not much happened this week other than I thinned out the box. I took Ozzie out of the box and put it in the window and now its showing hairs. The window I am using is a south facing window that doesnt get direct light till in the afternoon. So BID you are probably right about it needing less light to get it going.:thumb:

Harriet is filling out nicely. Her largest buds are 6 and 5 inches long and full. Runt is just popping buds everywhere. I am hoping it will start filling in now that it has lots of room.

I have a question. Actually its a couple of questions in a question. I have searched the site (a couple) and not found an answer.

My plants are not showing Trichomes so is it the plant or the way I am growing it? I checked using a 50X microscope and only see very small bumps on the flowering leaves. They do not appear to have changed in the last 3 weeks, the appearance of the bumps. The buds are filling and the pistils are really getting long and full but no trichomes.

Gosh, Oldr... I have never heard of such a thing. I wish I had a simple answer but now you've got my curiosity sparked. I can't wait to hear the answer(s). You know, and no offense meant please, but perhaps it is your tender age and the eyes are starting to go... Then again, it could be Karma from a past life, you know, even something your ancestors did. You just might be doomed to be able to grow great looking plants that are void of the Glandular Trichomes! Ha! LOL. No seriously, that's the weirdest thing I have heard to date. Please let us know what you find out. Maybe the strain you're growin' doesn't show the Trichomes until week 4 or 5 even!:high-five:

I think that since its a sativa you are just going to have to wait it out. the flower time is going to be long maybe 12weeks.
but thats just my guess :)
