300w LED - Sunset Kush

re: 420 Consumer Reports - GrowLEDHydro Spectra 300w LED / Lowryder II by Setting Sun

Wow thank for you that info, glad I said something. I was just trying to do the required liquid formula in my head. My other plants at their max growing were drinking a gallon a day (I have low humidity, though not so bad during summer with the swamp cooler)...I figured with two gallons of perlite that would only be at most 1/2 gallon of water and probably not even that. Figured I might end up killing them overnight from drought with much less space than that...

BTW why would that kill them? Slime mold?

:peace: brother.

You'd be creating a swamp with that much liquid. Not DWC...but a swamp.
Hempy is designed to have a hole, 2 inches up. If you're growing in a 40 gallon tub...the hole goes 2 inches up.

SS, well now I know what perfect plants look like! This is a great journal, thanks.

From my limited experience, I'm thinking transplant stress may be partly breed specific. Pretty scientific, huh?

I just repotted 2 Jack Herers, 1 white widow, and 2 Jamaican bagseeds from dirt to perlite hempies. The babies were in 4" pots w/ dirt. I massaged most of the dirt off the root balls in a bucket of water, then dipped the remains in a bucket w/ Superthrive.

The ww is doing okay, the Jamaicans are doing better, but the JHs are boinking.

I love growing pot :)

what a nice compliment, thanks man ;)

Yes, some strains handle stress like transplants better than others, same as some strains are easier to clone than others.

With auto strains, it's not so much that they can't handle stress well, but that they have a finite lifespan, so you don't want them to waste any of that time recovering from something. With regular plants, it's not that big a deal, just slows them down temporarily.

They're now at 31 days and looking just beautiful.

Lowryders really respond well to strong light, and they are just loving the Spectra 300.

I have it up around 20" now. Any lower than that and I start to see some light stress, with the plants folding their leaves up to conserve water.

There's just no comparison between this light and the 126w and 180w LED lights from my last grow. This is the kind of intensity and coverage you need to grow nice buds. Sunglasses are highly recommended, and I'm not even kidding.

How can you not love these cuties?

They're looking beautiful, but they should have started flowering by now.

They are 12-14" tall and still growing fast. They're going to be huge for lowryders if they double in stretch when they flower.

I'm going to give them a few more days before flipping them myself, but I'm very open to advice or suggestions.

thanks for following ;)

I have zero experience with auto's......but I'd flip 'em.

re: 420 Consumer Reports - GrowLEDHydro Spectra 300w LED / Lowryder II by Setting Sun

Beautiful plants SS, are you on 18/6? I was under the impression autos were 12/12 from seed.

re: 420 Consumer Reports - GrowLEDHydro Spectra 300w LED / Lowryder II by Setting Sun

Autos should flower without regard to light schedule. They need at least 18/6 to develop well, but many growers also use 20/4 or 24/24. They will flower at any of those light schedules.

The males generally show sex at 14-21 days, and the females from 21-28 days, no matter the hours.

If you grow them on 12/12, the yield suffers because they don't get very big.

The recommended light schedule for LR2's is 18/6 for the entire grow, which is the schedule I have them on.

Always a pleasure to watch your grows man.
That stem is a monster....lol
Great goin

re: 420 Consumer Reports - GrowLEDHydro Spectra 300w LED / Lowryder II by Setting Sun

thanks LilJah!

That stem is nice for an auto, and still growing.

I also forgot to mention that I added another Tbsp of the Osmocote+ to each plant by top-dressing and working it in to the top 2-3" of the medium.

All I'm giving them is PH'ed water, and they're doing great!

these OC+ can have a huge + for me when i have to leave town. all i would have to do is fill a big tub of PH water and set my drip system and not have to worry about waisting tons of money on nutes. i am very curios to see how the flowering for you works out using these? i see Doc's plants and they look great, but would also like to see a few other grows using these to commit to them on my next grow. lots of benefits from using those if they flower good.

your girls are looking great, they seem to be very happy with the OC+ and leds. i cant wait to see how this turns out at the end?

good luck brother

How does Hempy/OC compare to other grows you've done?

There are many differences, all of which I am liking a lot.

1. Hempy is cleaner because there's no dirt.

2. Growth is significantly faster than in dirt.

3. The plants respond to things *much* faster because Hempy is hydro, which is really cool for a touchy-feely grower like me because I can correct things and make adjustments very quickly and easily. Flushing is much easier and more effective in Hempy, if necessary. Soil is slower and more forgiving, but I *love* the quick feedback aspect of hydro/Hempy.

4. Using equal-sized containers, watering frequency is higher with Hempy because the perlite doesn't retain water like soil, but it's nothing that creates issues for me. I have come up with several vacation solutions for watering, which I would have to do with soil also, so no problems there.

5. The OC+, which seems to be working fine thus far, is a huge plus. No nute mixing shenanigans. I'm just using PH'ed tap water, couldn't be easier, except for non-PH'ed tap water, which I will try and see what happens. The OC+ will also make my vacation solution much easier, as all I have to use or design is a system that will provide water, not nutes.

6. Last but not least, Hempy/hydro is just more fun for me than soil. I can experiment a lot more with different containers and other parameters. Hydro is just a good fit for my personality and approach to growing. There are only so many things you can do with a container full of dirt, whereas hydro/Hempy opens up tons of possibilities for different grow systems and setups.

7. My goal is to have a very low maintenance grow room that produces well and that I have lots of fun in.

The OC+ and Hempy may make that an easily attainable goal.

Sounds great, bro.

I was thinking the OC+ would be a good choice for LED's, because it seems like the plants don't use as much water and nutes with LED's as with HID's. OC, therefore, won't overfeed (or underfeed). It seems like a good combo.

Have you noticed any signs of chlorosis of any kind?

re: 420 Consumer Reports - GrowLEDHydro Spectra 300w LED / Lowryder II by Setting Sun

Whats up Doc, By the way what is OC I've never heard of it, is it just another additive or something special ?? Thanks for any info Doc !! :peace:

Osmocote Plus is a very well rounded nutrient that includes all the micro's and a perfect NPK for our beloved plants.

It's a controlled released fertilizer that gives the plants what they need and does NOT overfeed or burn.

I'm using it, as are several others, and I'm thrilled with the results. It kicked the hell out of Advanced Nutrients in a side by side grow....to the point where I stopped the experiment and just OC'd the AN plants, which fattened up very fast.

It's got higher N content than the current conventional wisdom says to have....but that's a whole 'nuther topic.

Oh.....a 2 years supply costs less than 20 bucks if you go to Home DePot.

re: 420 Consumer Reports - GrowLEDHydro Spectra 300w LED / Lowryder II by Setting Sun

Can you use it in a hydro set up ? And do you use it exclusively ? I'm using AN sensi A&B right now.
