300w LED - Sunset Kush

Re: 420 Consumer Reports - GrowLEDHydro Spectra 300w LED / Lowryder II by Setting Sun

thanks guys,

there is no adult supervision in my brain ;).

I tried to update last night as promised, but couldn't access the site. It's workin' now though, so here goes.

This is Vicky about halfway through the bloom cycle:

The GLH Spectra 300 is kicking ass, and I'm usually pretty reserved about things until it's all over, but this LED light is obviously doing a *great* job.

The OC+ is also kicking ass, after I added more of it and started using straight tap water. I'm very happy with how it's working, and I've had to top-dress more than half the prills because I was overly conservative with it when I filled the buckets, so it would be working even better if I had incorporated more of it into the perlite/Turface from the get-go. The mild mag deficiency cleared up with the straight tap water, and now that I have about 5 Tbsp total of prills in the bucket, things are looking really good.

Big thanks to DocBud for turning me (and many others) on to the OC+!

This is going to make growing a *lot* easier and less expensive for me, whether in soil or hydro, so that's a huge thanks buddy ;).

My hempy-style bubble pot is working really well too, but it's the first time I've used this method, so don't know how much it's contributing to the results.

In any case, Vicky is a very pretty beast. She's taking up the entire tent and crowding Shrub up against the wall.

Speaking of Shrub, here she is. She's sort of a mini-me version of Vicky, but she just started packing it on, so she may yield OK.

Things are a little more dialed in now that I have a better feel for the light and the nutes.

More OC+, straight tap water, and raising the light up to 14" were the tweaks.

We're around halfway through bloom now, so plenty of time left for things to fatten up ;).

thanks friends ;).

What do you think is optimal for the oc+ SS. I have been experimenting with it as well. I just transferred some photoperiod plants that are vegging, and since the bottle says mix into the top 1-2" of soil for best results, I filled my pot, planted my transplant, and on the topcoat mixed in a visual amount of OC. I didn't go by measurements, I simply sprinkled the area as if peppering it. So far, on the veg's I have given the OC seems to be helping mucho!

Thanks for the pics SS! Looking sweeeeeet!!!

The reason is that under HID you don't get the symptoms. The minerals are present in the medium, so it isn't a "deficiency" so much as an inability by the plant to assimilate.

This makes sence to me... Thanks..

You can always add more. In fact, you can add LOTS more, and it won't harm the plant. In soil, the recommended dose seems to work well. In perlite, it seems you can go heavier...probably because the nutes wash out easier.

Thanks Doc! Hey SS, is Vicky in a 2 gal pot? What does that thing measure? If you wouldn't mind...

Doc, I will continue to add the oc+ as I deem fit. It seems so very easy. I had sprayed my plants with a carbon-based product, and a lot of leaf didn't take well to it. eh!

Sorry that's a bit off topic SS! I am still interesting in hearing your two-bits!

Vicky is very hairy girl Sun :) She is going to be a beauty the last couple of weeks. Shrub is looking good too. :)

OC+ is making my girls Green and healthy :cheer: Amazing product for the price and trouble free growing.

I kinda feel like I should be doing something, but what's to do but water? :)

That application chart I linked to on your last journal had three application rates for different situations and media, and for soilless media, the heavy rate was recommended.

The nutes wash out easier and the plants are completely dependent on the OC+, so heavier application is required.

It doesn't work as well top-dressed in perlite as it does in soil, because the prills need moisture to release nutes, and the top 1-3" in pure perlite doesn't hold much moisture, so that situation also requires a more liberal application since the release rate will be lower.

Coco may prove to be a better medium for CRF's than perlite because it is much closer to soil as regards water retention and matrix.

I'm surprised more people aren't using coco by now. It has so much going for it.

Yep, she's in a standard 2gal planter's pot. It measures 9" wide X 8" tall.

I'm up to 5 Tbsp in that pot. I sprinkled 2 Tbsp into the perlite when I filled the pot, and I've top-dressed with an additional 3 Tbsp during the course of the grow.

The layer of hydroton I recently added may help it work better as water won't evaporate quite as fast off the top of the media where the prills are.

Vicky's at the peak of bloom. I'm having to fill that deep saucer more than daily now, so I'm going to replace it with a dish pan that will hold more water. I've been concerned about whether all the bubbling would raise the RH in the tent too much, but it only went up 1-2%, so the ventilation is working well.

I added an additional circulation fan, a little 4" single-speed, also blowing from underneath, to help prevent mold, because things are getting thick in there and my RH, at 44-46, is higher than ideal.

OC+ is making my girls Green and healthy :cheer: Amazing product for the price and trouble free growing.

I just PH'ed 5 gallons of tap water yesterday to 6.0, and gonna see how stable the PH stays over a few days. For Hempy grows, that would be the easiest way to water.

In soil, I'm going to go with straight tap water, no PH adjustment, and see how it goes before making more work of it.

I kinda feel like I should be doing something, but what's to do but water? :)

You should be doing something.

Enjoying an easier way to grow ;).

Hi Sun

In soil, I'm going to go with straight tap water, no PH adjustment, and see how it goes before making more work of it.

That's something I'll be watching with interest. I use two Brita pitchers to clean my water and the pH is always 7.0. I keep those pitchers constantly busy, with my size garden. Thanks for trying it for the rest of us! :)

Re: 420 Consumer Reports - GrowLEDHydro Spectra 300w LED / Lowryder II by Setting Sun

The only problem with that being that my tap water has chloramine, not chlorine, so that may kill any beneficials.

The only way I know to remove chloramine effectively without using an R/O system is to use the stuff they use to remove it from aquarium water.

I think that stuff works by replacing the chloramine with sodium, so I'm not sure whether it would be good or not to use it. The amount to clear 5 gallons is just 2-3 drops, so how much sodium could that add?

But, in any case, I'm going to try it first without removing the chloramine and see how it goes.

thanks OMM ;)

Positive results so far SS. Thanks for sharing your experiences with simpler growing methods. Being able to supply a patient with a small plant that all they have to do is give it water and light would be great!

Re: 420 Consumer Reports - GrowLEDHydro Spectra 300w LED / Lowryder II by Setting Sun

SS did you ever get a response back from Scotts? I just remembered that discussion from a while back.

With your water issues, there should be some information available about the chloramine or whatever it is in your water. Maybe contact a water company, such as culligan, PUR, BRITA, etc. Maybe even a visit to their site's would reveal some info.

There is a lot of water purification stuff out on the market...lots of specialty stuff, but who knows, maybe you could just use some sort of on tap, or in-line filtration for your water to resolve your issue.

Keep on keepin' on!
