Starts with research, and I'm glad to have you aboard to watch this science go down!

Day 8

Checked on the Amnesia x The Ultimate (Ultimate Amnesia?) beans, and all but two had started cracking, so into 5" x 5" pots they went, pre-moistened the soil and carefully used tweezers to put them into their respective little holes. Then randomly picked pots and distributed them evenly (starting with Side B), leaving a tent with 16 pots, and all with something growing in them!

The 7 samurai got a light watering tonight, one drop of molasses mixed in 32 fl. oz. of water. I figured a little iron and food for the bacteria is beneficial, even at this early stage. Feed the soil, right? I have to grab some of those little plastic plant ID things so I can keep better track of stuff, want to be sure and have as many valid data points attached to a given plant as possible, and that ain't possible if I forget which is which!

So, babies or not, it's time to make this thing more real and show you some progress. Until I get them labels, the individuals will not be identified, just the side (A or B) they're on. Let's begin, shall we?

Yep:

The unit that our gracious sponsor GrowGSL provided is the GS300 300W Quantum Pro-Bloom. It's a beautifully manufactured unit, and much lighter weight than other units of comparable wattage. The competition is a Chinese manufactured "12-band" LED unit, with a declared 395 watts, but was referred to as a 300W unit. If I could afford to spend the money on them, I'd have a pair of Kill-A-Watt boxes on them each to get an accurate number for you folks.

Kids are looking good, none of the Ultimate Amnesia have popped yet, but I'm not worried. When I planted them last night, you could see the seed cases splitting open, should probably see babies in another day or so

Okay, the particular unit I have is the earlier 2011 version of the 300W unit, and all I recall being told, wattage wise was that it drew 395W, whether that includes fans or now, who knows? I could count the LEDs and try to make an assumption on things wattage wise..this is about all else I could glean from the supplier's site:

• unmatched 12+ wavelength illumination
• true 3 watt LED's at a 90 degree viewing angle
• features an 4' x 4' coverage area, 2.8' x 2.5' core saturation, and delivers over 95% of absorbable light to the plant

Anything else is regarding the newer 2011 unit and wouldn't be applicable. I do have this side-by-side comparison shot of them:

All the pots got watered tonight, just seeing the recently planted UA beans showing with the soil pushing away - any day now will have some babies to join the 7 samurai! I learned a lesson about packing soil into pots: you gotta pack it in there tight. I noticed tonight that the soil had pulled away from the sides of the pot walls, and that could lead to poor moisture for the kids if water channelling happened. I packed it tighter around the sides, and will just need to be very cognizant of that when transplanting to the Air Pots.

I'll get some more pics when the UA's are popped up and all is green

Wow those lights have a lot of leds..I think mine only has 65...kinda hard to count...I can't see for a hour after looking at it. Your pic kinda looks a little Pac Man-ish...lol...but thats just probably just my brain.
I only use old beer cups..the girls seem to like that ol beer stench...but hey...it makes for a good beer joint.

All but 2 (or 3) of the UA beans have sprouted, and got a deeper watering tonight...this shootout is moving now! The 7 Samurai are getting bigger and are getting their second nodes now, a few are showing some yellowing, looks like a mg deficiency - I'm certain it's not a N deficiency, what with this soil as cow poop compost loaded as it is...I'll shoot pics this weekend if they're not looking better. Still watering @5ml/gallon of Cal-Mag..maybe need to up that a bit.

Anyhow, just wanted to check in!

Yeah, I'm wondering though, if just RO/DI is going to affect the roots' ability to uptake nutrients or something? The babies are going to start getting their molasses waterings starting next week I believe, I'm just being paranoid about having to amend this soil, and don't want to fuck things up

I love them too - I just couldn't imagine growing with HPS/HID/MH stuff!

Day 15
Two of the newly dubbed "UA" beans did not pop, so the total count in the tent is 14 plants. I did take the tip from you folks and made plastic cup ID tags for the pots, this will really facilitate taking care of what plant is which and what and how! Current distribution is:

Side A: 4 x SSH, 3 x UA
Side B: 3 x SSH, 4 x UA

Still hoping for 4 females per side...I can dream can't it!!??!!

Anyhow, I almost forgot:

So, I want it to be my strain. It's The Ultimate x Amnesia...UA, for Unauthorized Absence, like my brain will go UA after smokin' this down! Am I crazy or just really baked?
