1st Time Grower Box Build - 1st Clones And New Grow - Maui Wowie - GDP - LA Kush

For the most part, given optimal conditions cloners deliver roots in 5-7 days, thats bout half half da time of the coventional dome n tray set up.which is reason why most go that direction.

For you recognizing and taking proactive steps in making positive adjustments made all da difference and nudged u right over to the side of success.no matter what happens here,im sure ur gonna ace it da next go around:thumb:

Yeah, not sure how these clones will do. Even if they do actaully grow. How much did I stress them. What is the outcome of all that stress. Will they mutate like crazy? Either way ... gonna grow them out if they live. Just morbid curiousity I guess.

I am pretty confident that if I were to take some new clones and put them into the bubble cloner ..... with the exact same conditions I am currently running .... that they would probably succeed in a normal manner.

One thing I did learn is this. There is a fine line between thinking you got everything right ..... and actually getting everything right ..... LOL.

Hey Muttt, nice looking grow and interesting journal. One question I had for you was on the trim you are saving for edibles and capsules. I assumed that the only valuable trim was that taken when you are manicuring your harvest and really only the leaves that had trich's on them. Is this not the case?

I ask because it sounds like you are saving ALL leaves, even those you take now during veg.

From all the information i've gathered, even young leaves have CBD's in them. Of course, you won't have the trichome or the high levels of THC that you would get with the trim that comes from buds. But, if using the trim to cook with, make oil or butter, or take in gelitan capsules, you will still get CBD's out of them. So .... I figure waste not ... want not. Once the trim is dried and crumbled, it won't amount to much anyway. But, i'll take whatever CBD's it will give. If they don't give any ... it won't really hurt anything anyway. Of course, it wouldn't run them through a bubble bag. That would just be a waste of time. You wouldn't get anything but plant material. I also keep all my already vaped bud. I dump it into a mason jar until it builds up. Then, I sprinkle it onto my gelatin caps and fill the capsules with it. Even though the THC and trichomes have been vaped away. There is still a ton of CBD and a little THC still left in what's left. I take the capsuls every day. Helps with pain. It also gives you a nice mellow buzz that you can add to throughout the day by smoking the occasional bowl. From what I understand, even stems contain CBD's and some THC. So, after harvesting, i plan to snip the stems into little pieces and dry it all along with the nice sugary trichome littered trim. I've read many places and have been told by several people that the only part of the plant that does not contain any useful compounds (CBD's, THC, etc) is the really thick stems (bigger than a pencil) and the roots. Hope that clears things up a little. Then again, I could be dead wrong. But, since I'm disabled, I'm home all day and have nothing better to do than grow my shit and read whatever I can find on the internet.

And you know what they say (at least in that State Farm commercial) "they can't put anything on the internet that isn't true" ........ LOL.

Ok,

After reading Thresher's post and after thinking about the bubble cloner. I decided to go down and take a couple more lower branches off and drop them into the bubble cloner (as a control group) and see if they root in a reasonable amount of time. So, I took them as close to the main stem as I could and as close to the roots as I could get. From what I've read, they contain more rooting hormone and are more likely to root easier because they are so new and so close to the roots. That's the theory i've heard anyway.

So here they are. I took them from the LA Kush since I already have two new ones from the GDP and the Maui Wowie ...............

After checking on the newer clones I took from the GDP and Maui (the ones in the rapid rooters), I noticed that the new little growth shoots that were growing out of the node area have actaully grown out a tiny little bit. I also trimmed off the bigger fan leaves. Here's how they look. They look great, I just hope they decide to root.

I don't really have much to say about the ladies in the big box. I moved the stems around a little to ensure good light penetration. But don't really have much to report. I did decide to double the amount of nutes (cheap home depot kelp/fish/guano) I put into the gallon of water I water/feed them with. It made one hell of an improvement to the color. No more yellowing anywhere. Now, the leaves are all nice and green .... dark green. I give them about another week before I'll have to flip them to 12/12. That Maui Wowie just doesn't have much room left in the Scrog screen. It's at about 70 percent now. Another ten percent and I'll flip it just to keep it from getting out of control since the Maui is mainly Sativa and the other two are mainly Indica.

I do have one question for the masses. Do you leave a little bit of water (1/8 to 1/4 inch) in the bottom of the tray? The instructions for the rapid rooters say to leave some water in there to allow the cubes to suck it up as needed. Just not sure if this is appropriate for cannabis or not. Any info would be appreciated.

Interesting. Thanks for the quick replies from both of you. I have been saving my harvest trim and my ABV with plans for making edibles, but constantly pluck leaves here and there that I usually just place on the soil. I figure it will break down and the nutrients can go back in the plant that way (not really sure though). I will start saving them though and once I get around to cooking with it give it a try, certainly won't hurt.

Unfortunately, I don't have a heating pad (yet) for the rapid rooters. But, since the temps in the box are 80 and the RH is 60, it should be OK as is. Eventually, I want to get a heating pad. But stuck with what I have for now.

The bubble cloner has heat. But, they are cheap 100w aquarium heaters that I used to have in my 80 gallon tank. I had to use 2 of them, but they keep the temps just perfect. Only problem is, the water level drops quickly because of the heating. So, I have to stay on top of it or my stems on the clones end up high and dry.

I have the main rapid rooter tray. But then inside that, there are two 12 slot mini trays. The mini trays have little holes at the bottom to let water in. I keep about a 1/4 inch of water in the main tray and it seeps up into the mini trays. So, the rooter plugs are nice and moist all the time.

First of all u fella's take the term RECYCLE to a whole new dimension.lol
Dat's cool i Respect that :thumb:

I Don't have any experience with rapid rooter's per say,but i do with regular ole jiffy peat pellets.I think there might be a difference.with the jiffy peats they retain a decent amount of moisture sufficently enough from start to root with no probs as long as humidty is maintained.

Now,on the other hand, although iv'e never held one personally, they look kinda pourous and spongy looking..could i be right?
If so perhaps thats the reason they recommend leaving some water in tray so it hydrated just enough for cutting to root..

Don't know for sure..but, what i do know is,stagnant water, light and humidity is a trifecta recipe for Algae which really can't be to good..me think's...go figure;)

Ah ok,,i see..so there is a diffrence..they are completely different animals.just as i suspected..if the standing water in the bottom of never see's the light of day, there could be no nasty algae growth..;)

It sees light through the humidity dome. I've used those pucks for flowers and they work well. The rapid rooters feel like moist chocolate cake and is about the same consistancy.

I clean out the tray and dome every other day. I did find some white powdery build up on the bottom of one of the rooters. It was from being to moist along with heat I guess.

When should I flip em????

I keep looking at them and keep asking myself. Should I flip em?? I want to veg more, but I'm dying to flip them. The Maui has filled about 75% of the Screen. What would you guys do??

Current_Ladies.JPG

I would let height dictate when you flip. Once the tallest plant is 1/3 the height of your grow space then flip. This will allow for the jump some times seen when going to 12/12 of up to 3x's the original size. Not sure if this logic applies the same on SCROG, but that would be my rule for when to do it.

Looking good...

That's your call bro, fire at will..

Keep in mind they need to be sustained with N during the transition to preflower and stretch..this is the most taxing time for them.

Once they settle down into budset.u can back off a little on N and focus on P..take notice and listen to ur diff strains needs.some may require more or less nutes depending on temperment:peace:

I got some BPN nutes coming to do just that. They'll be on the BPN within a week.

I forgot about the hieght part of it. Originally, I was going to put a line on the inside of the box that was 1/3 of the way up. That way, when they get that tall and hit the line ..... it's time to flip. Not sure what happen with that train of thought.

Now i'm re-thinking the flipping. I don't really NEED to flip them. I got meds and I'm in no rush for a harvest. (although I want one). Maybe i'll just pick a date and mark it on the calendar. It'll give me something to look forward too.

Has anyone every heard of the Subcool School of Dank. They are having this 3 day growing class in Seattle in November and i was thinking about going. The money they charge for the class goes to local autism. Just wondered if it's worth attending or not. Worst case scenerio, I'll be able to hang out with a bunch of stoners for a couple days ... LOL.
