1st Indoor Grow - 9 Strains - Eek!

"March 31 - he has my promise that all plants will be harvested by that day (drying will go on a bit after that tho)". Quote by Granny420... I love you threw that drying clause in there :laughtwo: You Sound like a wonderful couple :cheertwo: Keep growing strong.

I'm going to veg until the majority of the plants are around 12" (after LST and bushing a bit). I really don't foresee it being months down the road, I was thinking 2 to 3 more weeks - but hey, what do I know?? LOL!!!! Whatever is not big enough will be put in a separate veg room which will be my place for clones also. So I will have both a veg and a flower room. the flower room will have two 1000w HPS going. CFLs in veg room.

:thankyou: Granny for stopin by my journal. So 2 1000k for flower wow.Granny's no joke. I'm using CFL's to veg at the moment. They seem to do a pretty good job.I was always skeptical, but now i see why they are good for veg.Love the update.Ther coming along nicely.Yeah your rite they should be ready to flower around 2-3 weeks.Well Your sativa dominites will be sooner. But that'll be a good thing since they take longer to finish so if theres a week or 2 apart for the indica then they ashould all finish at the same time. GREAT TIMING GRANNYI'm posted  cant wait to see the harvest.

Been a busy week here!

Updates...

Had planted 4 more Thai Tanic, 2 feminized LD, and 4 AK-47 seeds. All 10 have sprouted now and are looking good. I have them in with all the others. This time I sprouted directly in the soil pots. I had never used rockwool before and just wasn't pleased at all with the results. Going with what I know this time and had 100% germination. So far so good.

I also did as McBudz suggested and began a 1/4 dose of ferts. I started with the 5-1-1 Alaska deodorized fish emulsion. Deodorized my butt! It still smells fishy to me! Since ferts are very important and I really don't want an added fish smell to my grow room, I searched 420 to see what others are using. It seems Fox Farm has a real good reputation, so I placed an order for some FF Grow Big (6-4-4 for veg) and FF Big Bloom (.01-.3-.7 for flower).

After watching the 7 Super Nova Chronic all struggle with repeated yellowed and then dying leaves, I decided they might be in some kind of nutrient lockout. Thus, I also gave them a little of the 1/4 strength fish fert water too. Wahlah - a couple days later and I am already noticing that they are beginning to green up! This strain is supposed to be one of my strongest at 25% THC and covered with white crystals - so I am feeling great relief that they are making a comeback! They are still recovering and will have to veg with the new seeds when I go to flower with the bigger plants, but I am sure glad to report I WILL have Chronic survivors!

I began setting up the veg room but have already figured out I want something different for lighting. I have some CFLs which include a 125w and 150w that go in brite light reflectors and a number of smaller CFL lights. However, I wanted something that I don't have to continuously adjust to keep 2" from the plants. I don't want to overheat this room either. So after much debate, I purchased a 250w convertible MH/HPS light for the veg room. The MH (6500k) should adaquately do much of my vegging, shouldn't get too warm for the area, and I won't have to constantly adjust lights. I will have the CFLs for added coverage when I need it and the HPS for the last cycle when everything is flowering.

I have started LST on 10 plants now. They are beginning to bush nicely. I've been simply tying them with top bent and fan leaves tied loosely to the side so that light can get to the lower node's growth. Their stems have all gotten really thick and strong and side growth is now mostly to one side of the plant. I release each after a week of being tied and will retie as needed down the road to keep the main branches exposed (increase yield) and to keep heights somewhat more level.

I still have my gnat problem. It has been controllable with the DE, but it's a pain to use and have to clean, etc and it is more for short-term control where this grow will go on and only get bigger. DE is also a silica product and I don't want too much of that to effect my plants. So...

I read a lot in 420 about what I can do. There's a number of posts regarding mosquito dunks and the info says it's safe. One SUPER-fantastic grower here (Harry Red) gives dosage info in this post so I guess I trust he knows what he is talking about. I haven't used the dunk water yet (soaking at present), but will when plants need watering again. Will report how it works down the road.

I've also noticed that there is definitely an odor. Probably has been for a time, but my a/c unit must be taking care of it thus far (has carbon filter on the side). I shut the a/c unit off completely two days ago (a fan runs constantly on it even when the a/c is not cooling) and when I went back up a couple hours later it was like - WOW does it smell nice up here, like I just cooked a real good bowl of some herb! I turned the a/c fan back on and a couple hours later no noticible aromas (for now).

I'm sure glad I have the scrubber ready! I do have to figure out something I can run at the bottom of the steps in our main entry area to cover up the sound of the scrubber's fan running upstairs... may just be crafty and decorate the ONA bucket to look prettier and run it in the entry room downstairs. I think the fan from it would be enough to cover the sound coming from upstairs - and it would give a nice fragrance to those who enter our home too.

Anyways... that's it for updates for today. I have Friday off and hope to get in here then. Take care to everyone!

OK as long as the air direction is ok with the scrubber you are good. Just the shape threw me off.

Sad that there is a time limit on the grow but sounds like you can pull a couple of harvests before then and really set your self up with meds for quite some time. Just keep that flower room full and put your last Sativa in around the new year and last 8 weeker indica in by the end of January.

Both FF Grow Big and Tiger Bloom are great in soil. Used them for my soil grows. Also had good luck with Age Old Grow for veg. Grow Big and Tiger Bloom worked great in conjunction with Cal-mag plus by botanicare for me.

If gnats are coming out of the soil cover it with 1-2 inches of perlite. That usually helps.

Hey Butcher! Thank YOU for keepin' an eye on me here! So good to see you!

Yep, 2 1000w for flowering which *I hope* means I can flower lot's of plants! As for finishing at the same time... I really hope they are spaced out a bit cuz if they all finish at the same time I'll be overwhelmed with harvesting! My plan is to cycle grows from the first ones to go to flower and then continuously thru the end of March. (see more below on this subject...) :-)

Hey McBudz! How ya doin'? Ya still gotta tell me how you cut yer finger off with your scrubber!!! (when ya have a lil time someday!) Yep, the scrubber is faced the right direction and boy am I glad I got it cuz the smell is definitely starting (LOVE IT!!!).

And yep, I hope to get, and then keep, the grow room full. I have plotted out some time frames in a calander and have marked well the last dates I can put the different varieties in for flower. I figure I'll have one light filled up with the first (#1 grow cycle) to flower. Then the remaining seedlings and plants I have going will go to flower about 4 weeks later (#2 grow cycle and second 1000w light). And then the *hopefully* clones from #1 will be about 4 weeks later in time to replace plants harvested in #1... and so on until I run outta time to put any more cycles thru. Hopefully once I start harvesting (early to mid Dec), I'll be continuously harvesting thru the end of March.

But you know what they say about the best laid plans!!! LOL So I'll mainly play it by ear and go with the flow of whatever the grow brings me.

Thanks for the perlite info too. I will see how the mos. dunks work first just cuz I prefer to see the topsoil for when it dries out. But if this doesn't take care of things, I most certainly will try this next. TY!!!

Babes are growing very nicely. Will update with pics either tomorrow (if I can find a replacement for the staff that called in (otherwise I'll be workin' it) or over the weekend if not tomorrow. The LST has really been beneficial on having them branch out with more tops that will *hopefully* give me more in the end. They are SO BEAUTIFUL!!! And they also seem to really like me singin' to them! LOL!

Hey McBudz! How ya doin'? Ya still gotta tell me how you cut yer finger off with your scrubber!!!

hard to explain without physically demonstrating.. But I used a razor blade to open the scrubber box. Then put the razor on the floor next to the box. Pulled the 40lb scrubber out of the box and set it on the floor. Now I went to lift the scrubber to put into my tent so I grabbed the top with one hand and lilted it to the side a bit so I could fit my other hand underneath to lift up... well when I lifted it up I sort of slid it along the floor a bit on my hand and guess what? I found the razor... it sort of anchored it self into the carpet as the weight and force of the 40lb scrubber dragged my hand across it. Picture a fish getting filleted well that's what the razor did to my pinky finger. Filleted the outer portion of my finger off right to the bone for for about an inch. I was so mad at myself for doing something so stupid. Now I have a nice grow room construction battle scar lol.

  • I Smoke Weed, I Get Happy .... I Drink Booze, I Get Stupid :loopy:!
Hey The Weed! Yeah... I haven't really informed him that the drying will go on for a bit after that. My promise is to cut down every plant by that day whether they are done or not. He'll have to adjust to the rest and I hope by then he'll be ok hearing that drying time will be a bit longer.

TY for your encouragement!!! I also just have to comment on your signature. I've been sober for over 10 years and TOTALLY agree! I wish the damn government would be able to see the difference between booze and pot. Anyways, I really liked yer sig cuz I'd rather have my happy high than my stupid drunk too! :smokin2:

Thank you!!! OH MY!!!! Yep, I can picture it. OUCH!!!!!! I can only imagine the pain, blood, and CUSSIN' that went on!!! EEK!!! Well earned battle wound tho, McBudz cuz you won with the fantasic grows since then!!! Kindda like findin' a needle in a haystack, eh? Fillet McBudz!

I used to be an RN (Registered Nurse) and one of the grossest things I ever took care of was a cowboy with a real good roping horse. The horse did it's job, but the cowboy had his thumb in the rope. When they flew him in to me at our hospital, his thumb came separate in a cooler of ice. The doc asked me to show him the thumb so I put on sterile gloves and pulled it outta the cooler... not realizing until then that a 10" long tendon was still attached to the thumb. Not much turned my stomach, but that sure did!

granny u rock ! sounds like your haven a good ol time best of luck but sounds like you dont really need it. take care and spread the love !!how much was that beastly scrubber?

Ain't that the truth granny420... Just the fact that ANYONE can set up a home brewery, But growing a WEED in is illegal! Just blows my mind!! Anyways back to your grow, All seems to be going well. Sounds like your in control of the minor problems you been having. Very good to hear. Once again you are my Member Of Month. I love visiting your journal!! Best of luck in times to come.

Thanks Kushiekush! Cost was over $350. Used a 420 sponsor who offers a 10% discount for 420 members. But that beastly *mother* scrubber will be priceless if it does it's job!!! :-)

Just stopping in saying hello, can't wait to see updates ;)

Hey dfw! Good to see ya! Updates are coming. First I have a number of images to prepare and upload...

But before that I have to give McBudz kudos!!!

I think your fan is going the wrong direction based on the shape.. I could be wrong though.. Should be blowing up. I know it works both ways but you're deal with a greater initial surface area of carbon if you pull through the outside diameter rather than push through the smaller interior diameter. I feel like the filter will be more effective for longer this way. :peace:

We newbies must learn to always listen to those who have gone before us... I now have to bow down to McBudz :adore: and thank him AGAIN!! McBudz, you were right about the direction of my fan!!! I hadn't plugged it back in until this morning. I figured I better check the direction again just to make sure. I hadn't flipped the fan over before, but did this time... what a dingy lady I am!!! MUCH better air flow OUT. Egads - what would I do without yer help??!!???!!!

And McBudz... I've been married for 29 years and know that it is rare to hear the words "You were right" LOL... so I made those in big bold colored print so the whole 420 world will know it!!!

Updates begin in a bit...

Just so I don't forget to add this... I decided to put the DIY ONA bucket at the bottom of the steps cuz the fan on it will cover the noise of the scrubber fan. BUT - I think the ONA smells like the cleaner used in an animal clinic, so I decided to get out some of my crafting essential oils...

I emptied the ONA mixture out (put the ona mixture in open containers and sat them in out of the way places to give a bit of fragrance) and rinsed the bucket. Then I started over, but I put 2 oz of lemon grass essential oil in instead of the ONA. And since water and oil don't mix, when I added the Soil Moist I stirred continuously until absorbed to blend it all together.

Gees - I love it! My whole huge house (including the grow room) smells of lemon cuz our home a/c unit circulated it throughout! It's like I went thru and used lemon pledge everywhere. Clean. Fresh. Invigorating. I like this smell a whole lot better than the ONA and the fan is excellent for covering the scrubber noise. I'm real happy.

Hey The Weed! Great to see you again! Yep, problems are under control for the moment. Be patient and someday I'll earn that MoM! :-)

First, a comparison of a group shot taken Sept 19th to the second which was taken 6 days later on Sept 25th. After this pic I LSTd the last of the group that I will put into flower in a couple weeks. The second pic also has the 10 seedlings in it.

Next I'll give the BEST UPDATE - THREE LADIES IDENTIFIED!!!! At least, I'm pretty darn sure - but time may prove me jumping the gun! Four plants are just beginning to show pre-flowers and I got out my glasses AND the magnifying glass to examine them. I can't get camera pics zoomed in that small, but positively do know the difference between male and female pre-flowers. I'm doin' a happy dance again! :goof:

Of course, the Cheese are feminized, so I start with knowing I should have 3 girls there.

The first I saw the female pre-flowers on was the ONLY LD I have... thus, LD3 is now named "The First Lady". Here she is...
Sept24-FirstLady-TheLoneLD3.jpg

The next image of her shows the effects of the LST I've been doing from a side view. You can see how the secondary tops grow to form a more even canopy of tops instead of just having one top cola.
Sept24-FirstLady-LD3-LSTEffectsFromSide.jpg

Then we have White Widow 2 (WW2), second lady to show herself. And she's filling out real nice.
Sept24-WW2-Lady2.jpg

And White Widow 4 is the third to show herself...
Sept24-WW4-Lady3.jpg

But the bad news is... the biggest plant, Utopia Haze 1 (UH1) has shown himself to be a male. Disappointing, but suspected. This is one really nice looking plant. I will have to consider if I want to try pollinating any crosses in case I ever get to grow in the future. There is only one other UH in my group, smaller by far and has fatter leaves, so I'm *hoping* it'll be a girl.
Sept24-FirstMaleUH1.jpg

Since I started with those I am fairly certain of the sex, I'll throw the Cheese girls in next and then start a different message to update the remainder. These have just gotten their first lean/tie with LST so branching will be coming.

The largest plants are 12 days ahead of the last that just got LSTd. I will not begin flowering until the smaller ones that just got LSTd yesterday and today are branching out - so I estimate 2 weeks, give or take.

I'm gonna end this message and finish the rest of the pics in a new message. See ya there!

Onward... I have begun LST on the last of the group that will be put into flower in a couple weeks. Have a feeling the biggest of this group with be monsters (*HOPE SO!*) and hope the smallest will still yield nicely.

Will begin here with what was missing from the last message's strains.

White Widow 3 (WW3), the last WW for this group.
Sept25-WW3.JPG

Next, my last *hope* for a UH female (unless I get more seeds). It's one of the smallest of this group and just got LSTd today. We'll see what happens... send good female vibes everyone! It worked for the lone LD!
Sept25-UH2-LSTBegins.JPG

Now... on to other strains...

Both Thai Tanic

BlueBerry 2. LST began yesterday - you can see the top is already turning back upward.
Sept25-BB2.JPG

And Blueberry 3. Notice the top is not turned up cuz it just got LST started today. The center is nicely exposed.
Sept25-BB3.JPG

Next, the G13 Haze. All three looking good.

Next I'll go to the only Super Nova Chronic that will make it into the first flowering - SN10. This one was doing excellent and when I had the overwatering problems, none of the SNC recovered when the other strains did. Last week I gave some fish fert 1/4 strength and they are now all coming back and what few leaves they have left are greening up.

Anyways, SN10 lost a lot of leaves so you can see the small secondary growth very well. In the next two pics I'm going to try to show what I have been doing to supercrop and LST my plants.

First, I tie the bottom of the stem the opposite way of what I am going to tie/lean the plant. I make sure it leans backwards just slightly, as shown.
Sept25-SN10-LST_FirstString.JPG

I carefully loop around at the top area that will allow room for the loop, but I don't attach it yet. As I bend it backwards and hold that with one hand, I use one finger and my thumb of my other hand to gently pinch and roll slightly between the nodes (supercrop) that will be bending, as marked with the arrows below (if there is enough space to do this without injuring any side growth - otherwise I just bend). Then I fasten the top down.
Note: I have also supercropped without LST along the way. Sure does strengthen the stems to do this.
Sept25-SN10-LST_SecondString-SCArrows.JPG

Then I check every plant daily. If there are fan leaves blocking the center growth, I loosely tie them off the the sides. Sometimes the secondary growth is stuck under my ties or a leaf on the underside - in this case, I try to gently get the secondary growth unstuck and heading the right direction.

After a week or so of being tied down, I release all ties and let the plant have a few days to grow. When the secondary branches are long enough, I will tie them to the outsides in a way that allows further undergrowth to get light and a more even canopy of colas at the top. At least that's the plan.

Now... on to the rest of the babes!!

Medijuana... those short lil hummers did begin to sprout just enough to do a bit of LST today. I LSTd three and am leaving one to just grow as it will.

and M4 - the only one I'm not going to LST...
Sept25-M4-NoLST.jpg

I think that completes the 21 plants (now 20 cuz UH1 is male) that are preparing for the first flowering.

Last, here's an update on how the seedlings are doing. Gees is there a difference from the rockwool seedlings to these soil seedlings! This pic is 9 days after soaking the seeds. These grew upward a lot farther than the last seedlings did and their leaves are huge compared to the last! I sure like soil starts better and will never use RW for germinating seeds again. I know it works for others, but I must be a soil gal!! Cuz these are as healthy as ya get and all 10 germinated!

Ok, I feel like I been writin' for ages so I'm gonna get outta here!

Peace everyone!
