1st Indoor Grow - 9 Strains - Eek!

Update for all strains here...

They are all in one gallon pots (transplanted over a week ago).
I would say veg started Aug 16th when the seeds were all popped - but I set them back greatly by overwatering from the start. Thus, Day 31 of veg today.
1000w MH light. Soil.
I estimate 21 nice plants at this point (3 females almost for sure cuz feminized) - plus 10 slower to recover. Of course, when I weed out the males, there won't be that many. I had said in the beginning that I would be happy with 10 to 15 females (and hopefully at least one of each strain), so I think I'm gonna be on track for this.

Possibly some, especially the Super Nova aka Chronic, had a hard time with the transplant to the one gallon pots. I was very careful and knew I hurt M10 (roots in soil broke away from rockwool - a goober on my part), but the rest all went well. However, all the SN Chronic, 2 White Widow, and M10 have been struggling since then while everything else is doing pretty good.

Now... on to pics. First will be three pics showing all plants - for anyone who doesn't care to look at each one individually in the veg stage. You will see they are growing at different stages - no surprise there with all I put them thru AND all the different strains.

Here's mostly the best group...
Sept16-AllBest.jpg

Then the next best group...
Sept16-AllMedium.jpg

Then sick bay... where some are starting to recover and some may be a loss but I still haven't given up on them just yet (6 Super Nova Chronic, 2 White Widow, 1 Medijuana)...
Sept16-AllStillRecovering.jpg

Then I'm going to go thru each individual plant, with the exception of those in sick bay. I know veg time is not the most interesting pics, but I did find it real helpful to look at other's veg pics and I want to have a record of my own (so I'm putting them here for me mainly!) and pics are worth a thousand words. This also allows me to look at my babies when I am at work and I likka that!

Let's begin with the two I started LST on this last week. They had huge growth and are ahead of all others so I thought I'd try a little stress training to slow the upward growth and increase the end cola results. I have a feeling these two will be huge when finished.

The lone LD3 from the front (showing inner growth) and then from the side (showing the lean) after LST for 2 days and then releasing for 24 hours.
Sept16-LD3After2DayLST-SideGrowth.jpg

Sept16-LD3After2DayLST-ShowsLean.jpg

You will see where I now simply tied some main leaves out of the way so the inner growth gets more light.
Sept16-LD3After2DayLST-TiedAgain.jpg

Next is Utopia Haze, UH1 from the front (showing inner growth) and then from the side (showing the lean) after LST for 2 days and then releasing for 24 hours.
Sept16-UH1After2DayLST-SideGrowth.jpg

Sept16-UH1After2DayLST-ShowsLean.jpg

Again (but with UH1), you will see where I now simply tied some main leaves out of the way so the inner growth gets more light.
Sept16-UH1After2DayLST-TiedAgain.jpg

On to the other Utopia Haze. This one is not as quick at recovering/taking off as many others are, but I include it here cuz it completes the two Utopia Haze pics together here.
Sept16-UH2-SlowerRecovery.jpg

Now the G13 Haze. They are doing very nicely. Soon I'll be stressing them a bit to slow them down and increase lower growth on them too...
Sept16-GH1.jpg

Sept16-GH2.jpg

Sept16-GH3.jpg

Then, I'm going to go to the Thai Tanic - nice recovery if ya remember what these looked like!

The the LADIES, feminized Cheese...

Sept16-C-F3.jpg

Then we'll move on to the Blueberry trips...
Sept16-BB1.jpg

Sept16-BB2.jpg

Sept16-BB3.jpg

And the Medijuana. The medijuana has as many nodes grown as a number of the others, but there is literally only a tiny bit of space between them. I tried to picture this in M4 below - but photography is lacking! I will NOT be LSTing the Medijuana. They are single cola plants and I just want them to get as tall as they can by the time the rest are ready to change to 12/12.
Sept16-M1.jpg

Sept16-M3.jpg

Sept16-M4-Top.jpg

An example of the side node distance...
Sept16-M4-SideNodes.jpg

Sept16-M7.jpg

And the Super Nova aka Chronic... they must need something special that I'm just not givin em cuz they are the worst looking of all. Six out of seven are in sick bay and the seventh (SN10 below) still doesn't look very good for color and lost a lot of leaves. Possibly they didn't liked the transplant but a couple are starting to recover - they just won't be very big when the others go to flower (may have to veg longer)...
Sept16-SN10.jpg

Sept16-SN2.jpg

And last but not least... the three best White Widows...
Sept16-WW2.jpg

Sept16-WW3.jpg

Sept16-WW4.jpg

Wow that does take a bit. I had to take a few breaks! That's it for today. Love seeing the growth. Lets me know changing to flower WILL come... and hope for a harvest!!! Will see what I can do for cycled grows to continue thru the end of March, 2010. Should be interesting.

Oh - not done! I began setting up my separate veg room and I started four AK-47 (THE TENTH STRAIN HERE), four more Thai Tanic (will not be cloning this strain later), and two LD feminized (24% THC from Barney's). Here's the start on the future veg room...
Sept16-StartNo2CycleFromSeed.JPG

Just what I needed - more plants!

Catch ya all later!

All in all looking pretty good granny. I hope the ones in sick bay pull through for you, if not oh well you have plenty of plants this go around :) Once you have all your nice females established clone away :)

TY so much McBudz. A long way to go - but at least with the recent growth I feel like they may finally be on their way (good feeling). And yes, I will be cloning but not til after sexing. Then I have to try to figure out my cycles so I don't have more plants than what the flower room can handle - been thinkin' a bit on that but is too iffy at this point when I don't even know how many females I'll have. One day at a time.

Even if you did have a bit of a rough start you've got it down now. Just wondering, how big are you going to let the plants get in the end?

TY dfw! Good to see you. You got some nice trichs going on your buds too! Love the snowy look of them. Bet yer mouth is starting to water now! Nice grow going!

As for how big before I go to flower... I know they are going to vary in height so they will never all be the same height. I *hope* the LST will slow the taller ones down a bit and give me good inner growth for higher yields in the end plus allow the shorter ones to catch up a bit.

So... my plan (for what it's worth)... when the majority are around 10"-12" I will start 12/12. A couple may be a bit taller and some will be shorter, but there is my questimate.

damn granny i fallow your thread and holy shyte..DAMN 10 strains..WOW..Hows the difference in nute tollerence?Big diff or are you using the same regimine for them all?

WOW is right Butcher! Don't quite know how this *jungle* will turn out - but do know I only have one 6 month shot at this so I'm gonna make the best of gitten myself some variety! Thx for keepin' track of me!

Nutes... haven't used any since one light foliar spray with seaweed extract early on. Don't know if that added to my early troubles or not, so reluctant to use them just yet. As it is, I just transplanted a little over a week ago and figure they are getting nutrients from the soil.

What you think McBudz? When do you think I should add nutes? Is it time for a 1/4 strength on the recovered plants? (NOT in sick bay) And is it best to do this at lights off time?

Thanks to all for visiting. Have a great day guys!

Thanks granny 420 for helping me prove to everyone that YOU should be considered for Member Of The Month :cheertwo:. This is a great journal showing all the trials and tribulations of grow Cannabis in great detail. Keep it up granny420. Best of luck with everything going on, you are a very busy lady! :peace:

I would say 1/4 strength for all of the best group and all but those 5 little ones in the second best group. Give those girls a week or so. Which nutes are you going with?

Thx McBudz - I sure am grateful for all yer help. When this is all done, I wish I could have a smoke-a-thon with everyone who has helped me.
:passitleft:

I have been forgetting to mention - thx for callin' em girls and gals - I have noticed! LOL *chucklin' here*

Now... questions again (RUN MCBudz!!!) lol

I have seaweed extract and some fish ?emulsion? ferts (something fishy but I am at work and can't check the exacts). Which would you suggest? I was thinking the seaweed extract 1/4 strength (1/4 tsp in 1 gal water) to water with AND as a foliar spray once/week to start with. But I am sure open to suggestions. I've never used the fish ferts as a foliar spray (water in only). And if I start at 1/4 strength, what do you suggest for increasing strength? 1/4 increase each week?

are you going to veg for a few months then flower the rest?

Hey Butcher! I spent the little time I had last night in yer journal. You got a whole ton of things goin' on at yer grow!!! WOW! I'll be back to visit when I have a bit more time. WOW!

I'm going to veg until the majority of the plants are around 12" (after LST and bushing a bit). I really don't foresee it being months down the road, I was thinking 2 to 3 more weeks - but hey, what do I know?? LOL!!!! Whatever is not big enough will be put in a separate veg room which will be my place for clones also. So I will have both a veg and a flower room. the flower room will have two 1000w HPS going. CFLs in veg room.

Thx McBudz - I sure am grateful for all yer help. When this is all done, I wish I could have a smoke-a-thon with everyone who has helped me.

get back to me with the NPK values of them and I will see which would be better. I for one am not about spraying fish guts on the leaves of my plants ..lol but many do. Only thing I spary is water or a Stay-Green spray 5ml per liter water. Works great for a N boost.

Anyways lets see what the NPK's are. And yes always go up by 1/4's until you see the leaf tips get a lil crispy. then back it off a notch.

Hey Weed! Thank you so much for the suggestion for Member of the Month - I am honored and touched by your suggestion. Yes, I've had a few trials here... I can only hope that it may help others in the future. As for really being Member of the Month, I personally would be extremely honored but... yes, there is a BUT... but, I would really want to feel I "deserved" it with my grow and those days are a bit farther down the road for me. Time... dedication... and maybe someday I'll get there! But THANK YOU so very much for honoring me with these thoughts during these early days. I am truly touched. Hope you stick around the next few months and see where my journey takes me!

My goodness do you get back to folks quickly! THANK YOU!

And you made me *think* too! I do not know what the seaweed extract is. I use it in homemade herbal skin and bath items for it's skin purification effects. Betcha never thought anyone would tell ya that! lol Now that I think about it, I don't know that I will use this cuz I think it is an alcohol extract and that may not be too good for the plants.

The fish fert is a walmart buy called "Alaska" Fish Fertilizer. Says:
*All purpose deodorized fish emulsion
*Use on all indoor and outdoor plants
*Won't burn
5-1-1

The NPK was low which is why I bought this one for a starter. N boost, but not too much. I'm not into spraying fish on my leaves either, so I don't plan on using this on the foliage.

What NPK ratio would you suggest? And thanks!

INDICA versus Sativa??

I can't seem to capture this very well in pictures, but I'm going to try. I have been watching the difference in the Medijuana strain. It is supposed to be almost 100% indica with 25% thc.

Anyways, I just thought I'd try to capture in pics a huge difference in what I feel may be ??? indica versus sativa growth differences along the way.

The four short Medijuana have been doing just as good on growing as anything taller than them in my grow. Below, I am comparing a mainly sativa Thai Tanic with the Medijuana. The image shows the difference in height - but the SAME amount of nodes grown with the 6th growing at the top of each.
Sept18-IndicaVsSativa.jpg

The Medijuana simply has no space between the nodes, they are one right on top of the other. It's supposed to be a very thick single cola plant. Supercropping would not be possible on these cuz there is just no space between the nodes. They are showing secondary growth too at all the nodes - going to be one solid bud plant in the end I think. They are much shorter but just as healthy as their taller friends.

I think these will be real interesting to watch and I'm really lookin' forward to the smoke test in the end! The Medijuana is listed as 25% THC with an indica high. If it stays a short plant with a thick huge single cola, it could be a real good strain for some here who have limited height space and wants single cola plants.

All my plants must be getting plenty of light with the 1000w cuz there isn't but a half inch (at MOST) between the nodes on all the taller plants. I won't be able to supercrop a thing if I can't fit my fingers between the nodes! But they are strong, so maybe I don't need to anyway!

Drum roll.... ....... ........ .......... .........
No more DIY carbon scrubber cuz the MOTHER OF CARBON SCRUBBERS arrived! I bet some of you pros were laughin' yer asses off when you saw what size scrubber I ordered!!! LOL But I *hope* you were also thinkin' this was fairly smart cuz of the size/strains of the grow and the size of the room. I will also be drying in this upstairs - so I absolutely need to control the odor.
MY GOODNESS is it BIG!!! I had it delivered to my place of business cuz someone is always there to sign for it for FedEx. Was I ever surprised when I saw the size of the box! (dizzy woman!!!) And HEAVY - 78 pounds of carbon!!! WHAT WAS I THINKNG??? LOL!!!!

I huffed and puffed... and pushing it back and forth, I got it about 10 feet. SHIT! I thought, "great only 40 more to go to get to the back door!!!"... and I huffed and puffed some more and got another 10 feet... my face bright red... I kept having to stop to breathe before I could go on... finally I got it outta the building and the final 10 feet to the van... breathe again... then the big push up into the van about had me poppin forehead veins!!! Egads - that was a lotta work for an ol' lady!!!

But the journey home wasn't over... I still had to get it in from the garage, thru the porch, thru the front entry room, and UP THE STAIRS... you would have all wanted to rescue me - but I'm real proud of gettin' it done myself!

The end result...
CarbonScrubber8Inch.jpg

wahlah - odor control taken care of now!!! I had to put the 5g bucket in the image just for size reference.

I plugged it in and although a bit more noise than I would like, it appeared to be working just fine. I unplugged it for now tho.

And thank you to all for letting me know when the sweet smell begins - I didn't expect it until flowering. It surprised me a few days ago when I smelled a very strong odor when working with LD3 - that lil stinker! I put my nose right down there and inhaled over and over. Green, but very strong. That plant is doing very nicely and is in the top two for size.

Got 3 grandkids coming in half an hour so I best git my energy up now!!! Nah... they are wonderful kids. The oldest boy is a tall 8yr old red-head who spends much of his time riding the little chopper around our farm, the next boy is 3 and loves to ride with Gramma in the golf cart or Grampa on the riding lawn mower, and the lil baby girl (will be 1 on Oct 2) couldn't be a better baby if she tried - she rarely ever crys and she looks just like the gerber baby!

Peace out everyone!

LOL good job granny, I would have helped if I was there..

My filter is only half that size and it cut half my finger off... long story.

I think your fan is going the wrong direction based on the shape.. I could be wrong though.. Should be blowing up. I know it works both ways but you're deal with a greater initial surface area of carbon if you pull through the outside diameter rather than push through the smaller interior diameter. I feel like the filter will be more effective for longer this way. :peace: and congrats on the GR addition. :) You can look into the speedster or any similar inline fan speed controller to adjust fan speed (and noise). Just need to run at minimum effective speed.

Awesome Awesome Awesome is what that carbon filter is haha. Good job getting it up the stairs!

Thx dfw! Awesome wasn't what I was callin it for awhile!! LOL The stairs were the worst and I wondered if I'd be layin dead under it at the bottom of them before I got it to the top. But I won!

:-) Hope ya all had a good chuckle - I did! And as much as you've helped me here, I have no doubt you'd a helped - thank you!

You cut half your finger off on your carbon scrubber???? Ya gotta finish the story when ya have time someday!??!!??

I *think* I have the fan going the right direction. The air was being sucked thru the filter and blowing out the top. I will double check, but I put my hand over the fan top and it was definitely blowing air up onto my hand. I don't need to vent this to anywhere do I? I think you had said I just let it clean the air in the room.

Someone else (can't remember who at this moment) mentioned a controller too. The sound wasn't horrible - about the same as the A/C unit. However, being able to control the speed (and noise) would be real handy. It'll have to wait a bit tho cuz that mother scrubber (lol) set me back for a bit.

Kids went home about an hour ago and now I'm headin to nighty-night land myself. Dreams of white coated colas will dance thru my head... zzzz :snooze:

Hi Granny420:nicethread:

I'm with you all the way. I'm not young at all and I had a good vision of you moving that thing.:grinjoint:
I had to move all of my furniture around when I built my grow box, it went like this: Push push push, sit down, pant pant pant, push push push and on and on. Took all day. Got it done though. lol.
Glad you could see the grand kids. I have 6 grand kids and 2 great grand kids.
Haven't seen them in years but will soon.
I think your grow is great. I can't wait to see the results, which I think is gona be awesome. Your doin great:cheertwo:
Your journal is informative and fun. Thanks.

Hey oldmedman! I can tell you REALLY understand! I had to do a ton of work to empty the room before I started too. But I betcha agree that some things are just worth whatever struggle it takes to get there!

We have ALMOST 6 grandkids. The oldest has 2 beautiful girls (had them last weekend) and daughter-in-law is due with their next (supposed to be a boy) on the 24th of this month. Second son has 2 boys and a girl, and the third son has the woman but has not started their family yet. Our sons and their families are the center of our world - love them all so very much. Love grandkids cuz I can spoil em and then *sigh with relief* when they go home! :-)

I'll send prayers you get to see yours soon and that all goes well.

Thank you so much for the kind comments and for cheerin' me on! I soooo NEED this place and all of you who are rooting me on. There is only one person who knows I'm doin' this and that is my honey - and he is soooo set against it. He's not happy at all with me doing this and I can't ask him for any help with anything. I respect his opinion tho - this is his home too. He is the most wonderful man in the world and the hardest worker there could ever be. He is my life. And he understands that MJ helps keep me sane... he knows how much it helps me and he at least is accepting my doing this thru March 31 - he has my promise that all plants will be harvested by that day (drying will go on a bit after that tho). So....

ALL of you here are very important to me. I CAN'T share this joy with anyone else. I can't ask anyone else questions or look to anyone else for support... So I sincerely thank all of you friends and 420magazine for being here for me when I need you so very much.

Granny's got *tears* of gratitude here. Gees... just an emotional ol lady! Outta here!
