ps congrats on the grandbaby boy!

good looking setup homie, they look like some happpy plants!

Thank you canolution! I hope I keep them happy! :rollit:
Hmmm..what brand bulbs and what brand ballast? Is it a switchable MH/HPS ballast or HPS only ballast?

I would contact the mfg or the store you bought them from. Maybe they can get you different type MH bulbs..

Hey McBudz! ;) Thank you so much for the great advice! Both 1000w units are Greenhouse Two In One MH/HPS with two ballasts changed by a Lamp Selector Switch (LSS). The MH bulbs I would have to look - they were the basic that came with the entire system. For HPS, I upgraded to 1000w Plantar Star. I have emailed the online store I bought them from and am waiting for them to get back to me. I hope they replace bulbs cuz with everything new, this should not happen. We'll see what they say.

I'll be back in a short with pics and updates! See ya there!

Update with pics today. I am getting ready to go to flower by Sunday at the latest. The plants in the soon-to-be flower room are growing about an inch a day and are now at 7" to 10" tall. When the shortest is 10", I will go to 12/12.

I AM SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS!!! It feels like I've been at this quite awhile and it will sure be good to actually send some to flower!!! I love watchin' em grow, but I'm MORE than ready to stare at BUDS!!!

To start, here is a group image of the plants I am preparing to send to flower by Sunday. The 5 plants I strongly feel are female are in 5 gal. buckets and I marked their initials on the image. Three White Widows, one LD, and one Thai Tanic.
Oct7-FlowerSoonGroup.jpg

Then a closer image of the 5 plants I believe have shown to be female with pre-flowers. Keep in mind I could be wrong! But on these, I'm pretty sure.
White Widow 3 and 4 from the top...

Then White Widow 2 from the top...
Oct7-FlowerSoon-WW2-Top.jpg

Then LD3 (Miss Stinky! - I WILL be cloning for sure!)...
Oct7-FlowerSoon-LD3-Top.jpg

And the fifth is Thai Tanic 1 from the top...
Oct7-FlowerSoon-TT1.jpg

Below is a group shot of the plants still in 1 gal pots cuz I can't yet determine their sex. These include:
(2) G13 Haze
(5) Medijuana
(1) Blueberry
Oct7-FlowerSoonUKSexGroup.jpg

From the pic above:

  • The G13 Haze is the largest with the most bud sights. I suspect one is a male and the other is my last hope for a female G13 Haze but it hasn't shown me anything yet for pre-flowers.
  • Four of the Medijuana have been LST'd and have approximately 5 to 7 possible bud sights (not as filled out as the girls above). M10 was not LST'd at all. It was the plant I ripped the roots when I transplanted and it made a real nice comeback once it recovered.
  • And I suspect the Blueberry may be male just cuz of it's size. Anyway, I decided I can clone it if it's a female and I needed veg room area so I didn't want to waste veg area if it decides it's a male. It was as tall as the other shorter plants here.
In the first image of all plants preparing to flower, the suspected males are on the far end where you can only see the tops of them. Below is a pic of them as a group. We have one Utopia Haze, one G13 Haze, and one Thai Tanic...
Oct7-TheSuspectedBoysGroup.jpg

Next is a group shot of the plants in the veg room...
Oct7-VegRoomGroup.jpg

Below is a closer image (with tags showing better) of the plants in one side of the veg room, including a mixture but all four of the AK-47 and both feminized LD (hope they are as stinky as the LD plant preparing to flower!). Don't know if you can see, but I started LST on two of the AK-47 and one of the feminized LD. You can also see the LST effects are coming along on Blueberry 2 (the top is not pictured).
Oct7-VegRoomPartGroupCloser.jpg

Then we go to a closer shot of the plants on the other side of the veg room. Here, I marked the Super Nova Chronic and a couple of the feminized Cheese. You can see the Thai Tanic that was planted one month later has grown larger than the SN Chronic - but some of the Chronic are now looking much better and growing nicely now. I am not going to LST any of the Chronic which will allow me to see which plants are female and then choose the best looking to clone. The feminized Cheese are filling out nicely from the LST they have gotten. I will be releasing these in the next week and will then grow them tall enough to send to flower.
Oct7-VegRoomPartGroup2Closer.jpg

Okay... you can see the only feminized Cheese I did not mark (above in the bottom left corner. I had it fastened to the side of the container and since taking these pics earlier today, I had a blonde moment and while rearranging to get the max light to the right plants... well I had the top of this Cheese girl fastened to the container box - NOT to the plant's pot (won't do that again!). I didn't *think* and pulled that plant out to move it to better light and EGADS - I PULLED THE TOP RIGHT OFF! Shit. So...

Now I have started 3 feminized Cheese clones. This is NOT the plant I would have taken clones from (smallest of the 3 Cheese girls), but I couldn't bring myself to just throw out the top of the plant no matter how small a clone it will be! Below, I picture 2 of the 3 clones I took. It broke in a real bad spot, so after taking this pic I had to cut it a bit lower, thus giving me the third clone. If nothing else, this will give me a try at cloning!!! And I was in such a hurry (PANIC!), I just used powder rooting compound and the soil I had handy to pot them. I didn't even think about the rockwool cubes that I had downstairs.

Live and learn I guess!

I have to get a number of "life" things done (my "honey do" list), so I have to go for today. Sure do wish the dang house would clean itself, the bills would pay themselves, and the groceries would just be in the cupboard without shopping for them - cuz I'd rather be here visiting other's journals and learnin'!!!

Take care to all!!!!

On the bulb failure - I cost myself a bulb after a "hot start" basically switching it back on before it had time to cool... have you had many power interruptions?

Now that's a thought obx! Yes. The power did go off the day before the light wouldn't work. That may very well have been what happened BOTH times cuz it seems like we had one shortly before the first light went too. Dang - I never thought about that, but the bulb would be trying to relight and they are supposed to cool between relighting. Egads, our power does go off in storms... I will have to watch this (if possible) and make sure I shut the big lights off if we have a power failure (put the room light on until they have time to cool).

I bet that is exactly what happened. But is sucks to think this could happen throughout the winter with blizzards. Damn, those bulbs are awfully expensive - but I better get an extra bulb for each light to have on hand just in case this happens again. That bites!!! OUCH!!! But at least it is better to have a possible WHY! Thank you!!!

Should call you greenthumbed granny, but that bulb issiue, most sites on e-bay will pay the return postage and fix the problem if you comuicate with them. I just got a 1000 watter that didn't work. Well the ballast was dropped. I asked them to send a new ballast. They didn't have one instock. So they contacted ups and sent a truck to pick it up freight paid. I was thinking I'dhave to pay the postage, but they paid the whole thing. They got their postage on a block thing so it dont cost them a dime and the companey criedts them on the ballast. Least I've found that with e-bay. If it has free s/h. Good luck. There are alot of deals on e-bay, and I've had good luck with them. Nice bunch of plants granny. +

There exists a product that you hook inline to your lights / ballast power cord that will not allow it to power back on for like 20-30 minutes after sudden power outage.. I'll look it up and get back with a link. :peace:

Ok I'm back..

here is a link to such a device. I'm sure there are others out there. Just linking to this site because it was the first I found:

Whoa! Talk about jumping into something with both feet! My hat's off to you for so many reasons. I'd read your comment on OldMedMans journal I thought I'd take a peek at your journal and had my socks blown off. Looking at your set up, and how you manage your grow, I pity your other business competitors.

I was interested in your comment regarding plant smell from some of your babies prior to flowering. I have one plant (bag seed sativa strains) that has had a sweet simi skunky odor since it was 2 two weeks old that saturates the room. Not having experienced this before, I thought it was a fluke.

I'll be looking forward to seeing updates, and I'll be the one drooling over your grow!

Best of Luck!

Hey norcaliwood, great to see ya! Thank you so very much for your wonderful comments! I have been known to grow thousands of OTHER herbs (thyme, rosemary, sweet annie... the list goes on and on) for the crafting and potpourri I used to do... but I was sure hard on these in the beginning. Seems it is going better now that I'm just sticking to soil (what I know!) and NOT overwatering.

As for the lights... Yep, the place got back to me by last night and they are going to replace the bulbs. Of course, I have to first return these, then they will send them, and by the time they get them here I will be flowering and won't need the MH any longer! But it would be nice to have around in case I ever need a backup.

Hey Mc Budz!! You and obx to Granny's rescue - as USUAL!!! Thank you honey (and thank you obx honey too!)!!! That is so cool! If it saves one bulb it pays for itself, so YES I will be investing in these. Didn't even know they made such a thing. Thank you AGAIN so very very much!

I spent part of last night going over one of YOUR and one of Harry Red's journals from the portions of your journals I had previously printed out (months ago). Gees - the two of you were my inspiration to actually DO this!!! So to have your support when I know what an awesome job you have done with your grows .... well, THANK YA FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!!! ;)

Hey OldSchool - I bet we got a lot in common (at least bein' old!!!) OldMedMan has been a joy too. We old timers may have to struggle a bit harder in accomplishing some things - but we are DETERMINED!!! lol Thank you so much for your wonderful comments and support!

That odor - no fluke at all! I don't smell a thing coming up the stairs, but the minute I hit the top where the room is - WOW! I keep stickin' my nose right down in those tops and sniffin' away... had a leaf briefly suck up my nose one day and wondered if snot was good for them (foliar spray?)? LOL

The Thai Tanic is hard to smell, but the scent is definitely chololate. With my love of chocolate, this is sure to be a favorite of mine - probably why I have such fond memories of it from the old days (30 years ago)... but I mostly remember the fantastic high from Thai of the past. The LD is very skunky stinky, the White Widow is a light sweet skunky smell, the Medijuana is just plain sweet smelling, and the G13 Haze has a pretty good skunky type aroma. Blueberry seems to have a fruity scent, but not strong yet. The others I have not noted yet, probably cuz I must have my sniffer up some other plants bud! LOL. Ak-47 is supposed to have a very strong odor when growing, but mine is still pretty young so no odor yet.

If I ever have something for others to drool over (mucho patience required!!!)... maybe I will be an inspiration to someone else as McBudz and Harry Red were to me. That would tickle me greatly. :-)

very nice grow =D
i like the home made carbon filter nice idea
good grow so far

Hey blacken, thanks for visiting! And thank you for the support! Hmm... the home made carbon filter didn't quite work out for me, but someone listed a link to one another member had constructed that looked much more effective than mine for smaller grows... hmmm... let's see if I can find it and copy it here for you... Here is the link. This is a much better setup if you are interested.

For mine, the fan was not going to be powerful enough to run any type of charcoal filter inside it. However, mine has been put to good use downstairs now (not in growing area). It almost instantly gives a fragrance to the entire house with whatever scent I choose. I've been using pumpkin pie spice essential oil lately... the first time I used it the hubby thought I had a fresh pie ready for him... poor man, cuz the aroma just left him wanting! He really shouldda known cuz my pumpkin pies come from WalMart! LOL

Well, I'm outta here so I can go :surf: thru others journals (if work continues to be slow and lets me). So many with great grows going on - I learn something new every day here!

yeah well I have stacks of various hydro catalogs in both my bathrooms so I spend a lot of time reading and re-reading them. I think I have every product memorized they have in indoor gardeners digest lol..

Glad I could help inspire you to grow, thats why I'm here and why I keep online journals :)

If I would ever get to grow again in the future (after this run thru the end of March), I would love to try hydro. Hydro plants just look so healthy and they seem to grow faster. I'll be keepin' you in mind if that day ever comes!

I forgot to post - HAIRS!!!!! All five of the plants I thought were female from looking at their very first pre-flowers ARE GIRLS!! All 5 have a number of hairs from new pre-flowers in their upper section. YES - I did it right! :-)

And I believe I was very right about the 3 boys too. 1 Utopia Haze, 1 Thai Tanic, and 1 G13 Haze.

Of the 8 remaining unsexed plants preparing to flower, I now suspect 3 males and 1 female. Of the 5 Medijuana, I suspect 1 female and 2 males, with 2 still not showing pre-flowers. The 1 Blueberry is still not showing pre-flowers of any kind. The other I suspect to be male is a second G13 Haze. Dangit! The last G13 Haze is in this group and has not shown yet.

McBudz, I do recall you got 3 girls outta 8 plants and lost one of the favorites (HK) that you wanted for a strain. But you sure bucked up after that news and made the MOST of those 3 girls!! Even when I read it the first time, my heart went out to you for those numbers! By the time they are this size to have that happen sure would bite!!!

I will keep that in mind cuz the last Utopia Haze is still in the veg room and it's my last chance in getting a female from that strain also. I did go and look and saw they had feminized seeds available for both G13 Haze and Utopia Haze... but I'm gonna wait and see what happens with the last G13 Haze first. If it turns out male, I'll buy feminized of both varieties. Oh Great MJ Goddess, please let the last of each be female - we need a dose of ESTROGEN in those strains!!!

HAIRS = GIRLS - 5 for sure!!! :slide::slide::slide::slide::slide:YES!!!

Yeah I decided to go fem only and just stick with clones at this point. My heart cant take another turnout like that lol.. Well except for belladonna. They didnt have a fem option so I have to take my srpout 1 at a time flower for a bit and if fem then go back to veg for mothering. If male.. well execute on the spot and start over.

With the HUGE MOTHERS you grow you won't have any problem keeping strains going now!!! ... and OMG yer clones are HUGE too!!! I've seen grows with smaller finished plants than yer clones!!! I read a bit about fems often turning hermie, otherwise I would have started with many more fems. You had any problems with this?

And I'm gonna have to learn soon how to let go... and execute. I'd really love to try pollinating... so I'm still thinking about this. Why, I don't know! LOL

My Twilight Fems's went hermie. 3 for 3 I think or 2 for 2 I forget. I gave up on them and Dutch Passion all together. Dont have time for crappy genes ;)
Other than that I've had no other fem'd seed issues.

Hi Granny:yummy:
Got to stick my nose in to see what's going.

5 females already?:cheertwo:

I hope you're wrong about the males. Well one or two anyway. That would be a good wrong.

I sure wouldn't want to be a male around you. Execution on the spot.
Not a nice "I'll put them away". Guillotine or nothing. :ganjamon:

I am happy for you girl. Your doing it and well.:goodjob:l

I will keep that in mind about Dutch Passion. And it is good to know that you haven't had troubles with any other fem seeds. The only reason I didn't do more fem seeds from the start was cuz I had read about others having hermie troubles and with this many plants (and my failing eyesight), I didn't want to have to worry about not catching a hermie down the road.

Hey there granny 420! Just been through the journal and it was quiet a pleasant vibe I got from you so here I am and hope you have much success! Plus rep for taking on so many diff. strains. Very good vibes in this journal.:smoke2:

Welcome siscokid! Thank you so much for your nice comments! Hope it's just like comin' home to Granny's here! Accept maybe most folks don't think of their granny's partaking in MJ grows! LOL I'm hoping to set a new trend!

If ya got yer nose in here, can ya smell the wonderful aroma???? And did ya get a leaf or two sucked up yer nose???

About the execution of males... It was an expression McBudz had used about his males and I was saying I was going to have a hard time executing mine. I AM pretty sure of a number of males, but I haven't had the heart to get rid of them until I am absolutely positive... and even then I have put a lot of work into them so it will be hard for me to do. However, I WILL do it when the time is right!!! Still thinkin' about pollinating, so have to make that decision too.

I'm happy for you too, OldMedMan! Yer grow is doing excellent and you are into the beauty of flowering! Betcha sit in awe just like I do. :rasta:

Hello granny420! Good Morning, It funny Males are always the better looking plants, Which alway makes it harder to Execute them. You asked the other day about a Journal from me?:thankyou: Well I have been growing nonstop for 10 yrs now in soil like yourself....But been married for 17 yrs to a great wife who tells me I should not advertise my grow. I need to listen, you know what I mean. But made her read your journal(she loved it) and other Journals and with your help she is cracking!!:cheertwo: I'm just finishing up this grow now and I think she will let me document my upcoming grow. So please cross your fingers for me. Thank you again for your Great Journal and your interest in me. Keep up your great work! :peace:
