1st Grow, RainForest 318, 400W HID, Chronic Haze, Yumbolt47, California Dream

Well I took the pics day before yesterday, so they shouldn't be too out of date...

I changed res again yesterday, after thinking I'd already done my last res change. Both plants are just turning hair color, so maybe trichs are soon to follow...

The SLH has been giving off a sweet citrus scent for several weeks. The KK smells more piney, although even the SLH has a faint Pine-Sol background. I'm still resisting the urge to add Flora Nectar, but I wanted to see how they ended up without artificial flavoring this time.

I just checked my journal and it says the SLH and KK had their first bud sites around 4/18, which is 9 weeks ago today. One thing is for sure, going 12/12 from the start didn't seem to help anything at all. Not sure if it hurt anything yet, but it sure didn't shorten bloom time.

The Cali Dream turned out ugly but pretty tasty. Still have a 1.5L jar full of it, plus a 3/4L jar of the Chronic Haze. I have 8 more fem Cali Dream seeds, but no plans right now to plant any of them. Also still have one each fem seed of Yumboldt 47, LA Woman, Skunk #1, and another Chronic Haze. I think I might hold off growing until October because of the heat, and might just do another RF grow with some of the seeds I already have. Haven't decided whether to get the Ebb n Gro yet.

At this point in this grow there's not much work left to do. I'm leaving all bent over stems as they lie, figuring there'll be that much more nutrients for the upper buds, so all I'm doing now (now that the res is changed) is checking pH and trichs. Got them on 50% rations for now, might add another 25% if it looks like they're using what they've got.

Can u tell me why u keep the big leaves called *gourmand*

Hi, ef, welcome to the never-ending journal. I'm looking forward to your pics and anything else about the RF you'd like to toss in. Don't worry about hijacking the journal - it's been finished since March and we're just using it to chat about whatever comes up. I'm also adding news about my current grow, but it certainly isn't journal quality or quantity.

About the fan leaves (I think that's what you're calling "gourmand"), I've heard that they're big nutrient storage places that you don't want to just chop off. They supposedly ration out nutrients when the res gets deficient in something. I guess that makes flushing take longer, but I'm following the advice of other people by not chopping fan leaves. Trimming out underneath the canopy is another thing, and I might cut off fan leaves if they're real low and blocking air movement to other plants. Is that what you're asking about?
 
I think you should cut the leaves but not completely u stay with a 2cm-3cm branch with no leaves

u understand? All the juice from the leaves/branch will go into main cola ..

this is why i cut leaves...

In veg stage u try to cut *gourmand* for give strength to all plants

Then after 2-3 days ur plants will be happier !!

Dont be scared about cutting leaves not too much will be Fine for ur plants

I cut leaves all day or so ..

Not sure I understand that. Are you saying to remove leaves from 2cm-3cm branches? Or remove the leaves from all branches with colas? This is interesting stuff.

In that pic of my plant, how are you deciding which leaves to take out? Just all the big ones near buds?
 
this leaves just do nothing ... just take too much nutrients for nothing
So u want to keep all the Energy within all cola so u cut *gourmand*!

Nice Grow journal. do you have your tent in a room alone? How are temps with the Hid lights? Do you have a fan blowing air into the tent or just the Inline fan pulling air out? going to have a similar setup eventually might get a rainforest setup. Not completely sure yet though.

I have the tent in a room that's a converted garage. No A/C until I put one in a while back. The tent has an exhaust fan on the top that runs during lights out, drawing air in through an opened vent near the bottom on the other side. I have another fan drawing air through the reflector using ducting from the outside, and ducted back out to the outside. During lights on, the tent is vented on 3 sides by unzipping the flaps enough to allow circulation. The CO2 runs during this time, so the exhaust fan on top is off.

I was going to get an Ebb n Gro for next grow, but have decided to stick with the RF until I get this climate control thing sorted out. I'm next going to get a small chiller, an Ice Box fan for the light, and a supplementary 20-25 gal res to supply cold water to chill the air and the RF res. I'll have 2 separate systems running from the cold res, both with thermostats, one to supply cold water to the Ice Box, one to supply cold water to a cooling coil inside the RF res. The exhaust from the Ice Box will cool the air in the tent to whatever temp I set it to (probably 75 degrees or so), and the coil in the RF res will be set at around 65 degrees. The supplementary res, which will be the only thing connected to the chiller (which will be outside the tent, with exhaust air vented to outside the house), will be set around 50-55 degrees, depending on what they recommend when I call them.

With all that set up, I can just worry about nutes, lights, and timing for once.

I believe my problems for the most part have been high res and tent temps. Not constant, but probably enough to stress the plants noticeably.

Your English is fine. It looks like you're talking about the leaves whose stems attach right next to the cola stems, is that correct?

I can cut leaves at this point, I think, without any big problems anyway. I'll cut some of those tonight if I have time.
 
Cool Im still thinking if I want to put my tent in a closet and vent hot air into my room or if i should put it in the spare room. moving in a few weeks so i got some planning time. Once you get things sorted i think you'll do a killing.
