Yankeetoker's 2nd Grow Attempt - 2016 - All Advice Welcome!

Looks good....I think I could do the same thing using the soft wire ties....also, I had hydroton on my soil surface, but removed when I transplanted. Do you find that the hydroton keeps the moisture in?

I use the hydroton only to assist in spreading the top watering more evenly. Also, when I do the LST with the wire into the soil it keeps the leaves from sitting in dirt. They do hold a small amount of moisture, but it's mostly to aid my watering evenly.

Cool, I just ordered some more, so I think I will go back to using the hydroton again. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions!:thanks:

It works great if you don't have a lot of strength in your hands and tend to leave indentions in your dirt... It helps disipate the water a bunch... I have a hard time with a full gallon of water...(I use bottled purified water) and being able to slowly pour it around and I would end up with huge holes in the top of my soil that I was afraid would interfer with my root system... It was that bad... the hydroton completely solved the issue...:high-five:....:circle-of-love:

Canna...

I have pipe cleaners, binder clips (for attaching to smart pots), and some of the soft ties (for when plants get larger). I actually saw a guy start LST on his plants using scotch tape...lol

Since I have the time, I will do a bit more research.

I used painter's masking tape, the barely sticky type. Worked great!

Thank you Canna, this sounds perfect and I'm stealin' it! :)

Too cool, I have a roll of the blue tape...so you just taped the leaves to the pot?

So am I!

Yup, here's a pic of it:

Left it on for a day or two and then removed it, didn't even discolor the leaf.

Edit: a day or two later:

Question....do any of you know anything about using Kessil H150s as supplemental lighting? Saw them on sale for 1/2 off and thought about grabbing a couple of the magenta and purple ones.

I would think that by the time you get the individual colors you want, it would be cost saving in the long run to invest in a small full spectrum LED light.

Those Kessil's are interesting, but expensive. Half off sounds like a good deal...but check into the LED's that have the full spectrum first. Not sure on the footprint of those little Kessil's either. (How wide the light sprays out)
Mars Hydro has some very cost friendly units. Probably others as well, I just know on the Mars brand.

Edit: At 12 - 18" from the plants they have a footprint of 2 feet diameter. :)

I am currently growing in a modified storage cabinet 34x19x24, so it is pretty small. I figured at that height I could get away with using the little Kessils since most LED have to be higher than my space allows. I have a 200 watt CFL in there and wanted to add the little lights to the corners.

Any suggestions on LED good for that small of a space?

I'm sure Dennise will pop in here for a suggestion or two for you. Let's see what she suggests, or anyone else.
The Mars Hydro I have is 22" x 10 1/2" x 2"
I believe they are good @ 18" - 24" above the plants for coverage. I actually have mine on the Autos closer than 18", and they are doing fine. You just want to be sure they are high enough that the full spectrum mixes before hitting the plants.

Whatever you decide to do to fit your space...cool beans, I would just like to be sure you explore your options.

Take a look at the Mars-Hydro 48X5w reflector... It's pretty inexpensive... No heat issues and if you use it with your cfls you'll be inspired...:)...:circle-of-love:

I think I'm going to get one...measures 12x12x2 not sure how much clearance I will need at the top of growbox, but with LST I think I can make it work. Thanks for the heads up! :thumb:

Quick pic after watering this morning...had not watered in 8 days, so they were nice and thirsty!

This one Dennise? I think this link is okay because they are a sponsor.

Mars Hydro

Yepper and they have really reduced the price and if you use the code: cofinest.... it will take another few dollars off.... it's a kick ass little light and I grew that auto Pineapple Express under it and pulled damn near a qp off her.... It's got Epstar leds... and to be honest I just realized that... and it has a 2 year warranty for a hundred bucks... IMO you just can't beat them... and their customer service is amazing... I found if you skype with Sara herself... build a relationship... it will work to your favor... Just sayin'.....:circle-of-love:

I think you have plenty of room... I do use LST and I keep my girls pretty low... almost to the point of a flux... but it's not because I don't have the room... I do it for the penetration... I open up my girls so the light can get down to the bottom of the limbs... that way I don't end up with a bunch of popcorn buds.... I think with your space and what you are doing you will really like the light... It's got veg and bloom switches and the heat is really no issue at all like I said earlier... The difference it will make in your grow is large....:circle-of-love:

Jumped on the deal last night (unfortunately before I saw the discount code), but for $100 and free shipping, I couldn't resist.

Will definitely reach out to Sara because I see a grow tent in my future...:circle-of-love:
