Xlr8's Psychedelic Bloom Party Extravaganza

:popcorn:Finally subbed!I'll be late for my own wake!:cheesygrinsmiley:Again X, I can't possibly tell you how much I appreciate your manner. It is obvious that you are a well informed, nuturing, and a major asset to the 420 family. I am glad I can bounce things off you as well as all the other members. There are some of us serious about the relief this plant brings us both physically and mentally and then there are those who are in it for the party...not that partying is bad, done more than my share, but the time on this planet grows shorter each day we are here. The time has come to kick the old men in charge out and put some with "common sense" in charge of the country. Looking forward to your next results, I am sure they will be amazing.:cheesygrinsmiley:

RDWC is a really nice way to go, but you have to stay on top of res temps a little more. Tough to beat it for yield though!

Its not that i dont keep on top off temps, its just they never rise above 70f. I know thats a few degrees high but not high enough to have ever been a problem for me. The enzymes seem to keep the roots healthy and at the hint of anything untoward good old h2o2 does the job in erradicating nasties and gives a rejuvinating boost wen needed. As ur prob aware i only made the switch to hydro a little over a year ago, having grown in coco mainly for years. But the sheer number of plants i grow and the diff spaces i have means the learning curve is so much faster. Ive seen a lot and learned alot in a relatively short time but being well accomplished in coco for 9+years before i switched def made the transition easy. I wish i had gone hydro from day one but was always of the impression it was too complex, little did i realise its so simple lol. But the point is I have my setups running smoothly for the most part, the odd timer failure or control unit failure isnt the end of the world. Its good to have problems now and then when u grow because that way u learn more and u can make adjustments for the better.

Hozona, that's very, very nice of you --- :thankyou:

I learned how to grow from this site, and "took" from it for a while before really participating. Once I got a little more comfortable and confident with some things, I decided I wanted to become a part of the community and "give back" a little while I was at it. In the process, I've made so many friendships here that I truly value - and let's face it, I enjoy the hobby aspect and sharing that with other people who are as passionate about it. There are so many truly good people here that it warms my heart and gives me a shred of hope for us all.

I agree we could use some leadership that truly cares for the people - all people, and one that exhibits a bit more common sense about sooo many things. :)

Thanks for subbing and again for the very kind words!

Hi Cultivator -

I hope you know that I was only referring to reservoir temps being important in the most general of senses, and not specific to anything about your grow. No doubt your temps will work fine, especially with enzymes or other additives that help keep the root zone healthy. I guess I didn't realize you were just getting started with hydro (well, coco is a form of hydro too, but passively). If you can grow nice plants in coco coir, you'll be successful in any form of hydro. There are some unique challenges to larger size grows like you have, too.

The overall key to hydro, I think, is that you are able to get your system set-up so that things are operating ideally, within ranges, reliably and consistently. Most days my interactions with the hydro system are nearly robotic. I have a nutrient plan that I deviate from only slightly, and I check and maintain PH. Rinse the reservoirs and refill them once a week. Repeat, repeat, repeat... 5-10 minutes a night, 45 minutes for a nutrient change once a week. Done. But, it took a bit to get everything dialed in and where I want it, and I make changes as I continue to learn.

I agree completely that problems and mistakes are an important part of the learning process. Though, I'd rather learn through successes, I usually learn the most from failures. And... I've had my share. :)

Picture Update December 12

Sometimes my biggest enemy is patience. I should have been further ahead of things and combined strains more carefully. Instead, I just threw a bunch in there, figuring I'll take a cut of everything anyway in case I need to cull something. Not the best way to go, but I just didn't have the patience and I didn't get ahead of things like I wanted to. Oh well!

So, the Bubba Kush is really lagging behind the others. I'll have to make a decision at some point as to whether to cull it from this round and save it for another round. But, I might still have 1-2 males in there, too. I'm making too much work for myself due to a lack of patience. Sigh. For now, I'm just going to wait and see. I will also see if I can slow the quicker ones up some, and have done some defoliating and LST to try to accomplish that.

I always have trouble capturing the color of things well with HID lighting - even MH. This first picture is from a couple of days ago, just before "lights on". I'm including it as it gives a better indication of color (HID always seems to make the leaves look more yellowish). Also, you can see some of the defoliation, topping and training that have taken place the last couple of days. The Bubba Kush and Pineapple Express were just topped yesterday.

From 2 days ago, just before lights on:

From this morning (I actually did quite a bit more LST with these after this pic, as well):

Jilly Bean - she's been plucked the most. Her? fast growth makes me suspicious that she could be a "Jimmy" Bean. I hope not, this is one that I really want to grow out...

Haha mate.

I didnt think u were saying i was doing anything wrong at all mate. I just started replying and fingers went on one on the keypad! lol I respect what u have to say as u clearly have some knowledge. Not dissing anyone on site but it bugs me sometimes when new growers tell me im wrong or do this and that. I guess i must of worded my reply in a defensive manner, it wasnt intended.

Ur def right about having the system dialled in. I do have the systems dialled in, but mechanical failures have been plaguing me of late. However to be fair thats not even the issue for me. The problem i have is that for a large part of my grows i have someone there tending to them for the time i cant be there. now i used to assume everyone thought like me and had the same understanding...........WRONGGGGGGG! lol. what i now understand is that alot of people dont know shit and they mess my shit up, alll be it unintentionally but how difficult is it if i say do not touch, and inform me if anything looks different, or ph to 5.8 and they ph to 5.2 instead? hmmmmmm in just need couple hectares of land and a massive industrial unit and i'll be able to go to work everyday and supervise whats going on instead of taking trips aroundthe county and surrounding areas to keep things running. the travelling is so time consuming. Be great if i could just focus on the actual growing 24/7, but real life means thats impossible. Anyway im off on one again so i'll shut it. peace.

Oh looking great as usual marra.

I think it sounds boring personally. If you find any, we can donate it to someone who wants it ;)

Not sure....I am still looking for some:cheesygrinsmiley:

re: Xlr8's Psychedelic Bloom Party Extravaganza

Me too! :) It's a lot of fun watching all the new stuff happen almost every hour :slide:

I love this stage of rapid growth, when the new leaf is a lighter color inside. The vigorous growth-rate can stay in effect through early flowering, and bulge the sides of your tent.

Hey X I just found your journal, your plants look great! I'm a big fan of TGA and Sub as well. So far I've only had the chance to grow out Pandora's Box. Ahhh, sooo many strains so little time... I'll be chillin for the remainder of this one if u don't mind...

re: Xlr8's Psychedelic Bloom Party Extravaganza

hey X, I need some of your expertise again bro:helpsmilie: for the last 3-4 days the ph has been dropping 5-8 points overnight.the plants look fine ive been staying on top of it but I cant seem to come up with a solution.I upgraded to a 40 gallon res hoping this would help because the plants are drinking 5 gallons a day(im sure some of this is evaporation).I think this rapid decrease in water daily is causing the nutes to concentrate and this is causing the ph to drop fast.are the plants to big for this system? 40 gallons for 10 plants should be enough?
