re: Xlr8's Psychedelic Bloom Party Extravaganza
Yes, there is quite a range of what gets entered, for sure. I used to try to enter something big and impressive size-wise. I had a pretty Lavender nug that only fit in wide-mouth jar length-wise, but got very few votes. I think because I didn't capture the trichomes/frostiness well, and it wasn't the frostiest bud to begin with.
These were frosty (not like some of what I grow now), but by the time you got close enough to see it well, you couldn't get a feel for the size of the nug/bud (which I still did a poor job on in retrospect). I should have laid this across the top of a wide-mouth jar or something for better perspective, or thrown the cliche'd lighter in next to it -- who knew how big this pipe was, ya know?
I didn't get a ton of votes with this, but I did get some:
I entered another that was nearly twice this big (way back), but it still didn't capture the trichomes well, and I only got a few votes. It wasn't the greatest nug, but I just wanted to participate.
So far I've had best luck with slightly smaller nugs that show-off the trichomes and frostiness, and are more truly "nugs" instead of colas. People seem to shy away from the big branches and colas sometimes in this competition.
My Super Lemon Haze buds were extremely frosty, and one of them got me the win a couple of months ago. But, I think this month I have an even better entry... I hope!
In the end, I never thought cola style buds were really "nugs" anyway, but I was trying to find the winning strategy, lol. I think it's kind of interpreted pretty loosely by the rules, so it's kind of what people want to interpret a "nug" to be. Seems like frostiness and purple are the two things that really get people to throw their vote your way.
Gittergreen's nug/cola/whatever you want to call it... is indeed a beauty, btw!!
id say so far its between you and gittergreen
the only thing is gitters isnt a nug its a small cola lol
and theres a few others with branches in there
isnt a nug just a bud off the branch or can it be the whole branch
just curious
