Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures & Photos From The Garden - 2012

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Nice Clean Growroom!! You really know what you are doing! :Namaste:

I just made some killer dry ice hash using the method that Mr Krip posted on your journal. Now I have found the easiest and most efficient way to make hash. Amazing!! I used my old 220 micron bubble bag and found a small bucket. I did notice a few hairs in the hash from the mesh. It would be great to find a 220 micron metal mesh. Thank you very
much!! :party::blunt:

Cool. I'm going to try that soon, too. Just bought a little pollen press, now just need the bag.

Okay, show of hands from anyone with an opinion: If I get one bag, should I get 160 or 220? or something else? Sounds like Closet Farmer and Mr. Krip, like 220 correct? I want to do the dry ice extraction method. Anybody know a good source for one bag like this, for a 5 gal bucket?

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

I got my seat and can't wait to see how the ladies turn out!!! Rock on bud.

Me too! I'm stoked about growing out the Super Lemon Haze, and another run of Chocolope, which to date is my favorite strain. Though, the reason there's another Deadhead in there too, is that she might be able to give the Chocolope a run for it's money.

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Hows it going XLR8? I have been offsite for awhile setting up the new space, but I just had to come and see what you were up to. Its always fun to sit blaze one and check out your adventures.

HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND!

Hey Shottafire! Nice to see you around again. Thanks for dropping by - can't wait to see your new space in action. Those Agent Orange nugs of yours are phenomenal. Definitely enter one in the NOTM. :thumb:

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

hey x, theirs a great vid or dvd by jorge cervantes, its called jorge cervantes ultimate grow dvd, if you search the net you can find a torrent version and download it like i did, it has a great section on the dvd towards the end about making hash and what kind of smoke you get from each size of bag you use, he used all the bags you can buy starting with big holes and working to the smallest holes and he gives a verdict on the best hole size, it wasnt the smallest size as it contained broken trics and im sure it was the next bag size up to that, ill try and find the part in the dvd and let you know, you should be able to get the grow dvd yourself, theirs loads on the net, i just googled n came across that one and it pretty much covers everything

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

just watched it again and he says the best hash comes out of the 76micron bag, might be best if you watch it yourself mate so you can see the whole process and judge for yourself what you think is best, used 5 or 6 bags and ended up with 5 or 6 piles of hash, the smallest was 46 microns or something like that, its right towards the end of the dvd if you want to skip past the rest,

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Your impression was different than mine of JTR. I named it Jack the Lung Stripper. Felt like inhaling fiberglass. Couldn't tell the taste because the cough on first draw was almost instant. May be different in a vape, though. Guess I'm gonna have to grow and cure some properly to get a better sense of the strain. Thanks X... like I needed more in my veg space. 'Preciate-ya buddy....:laughtwo:

I think there are a few different phenos of the JTR, and drying/curing has so much to do with it, too. This has been the best I've done at the drying portion, for sure. My RH was a little higher than normal, so I was able to do a slower dry. Sure seems like it made a difference. Everything is very tasty and smooth. The Deadhead is hands down the smoothest weed I've ever had. I can take a monster vape hit, no urge at all to cough, and exhale it through my nose without even a tickle. Almost always when I exhale through my nose, even a little accidentally, it burns some - but not at all with the Deadhead. I really love it so far. All 3 strains I flowered seem to have great taste and very smooth. One lesson I'm taking away is that I want to try to do the dry slower like this from now on - loving the flavor and smoothness this time a lot.

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Hey X,

Trying to find where I bought my last bag and what micron mesh it is. I think 160. Getting ready for work so I'll try to look it up when I get home. But iirc I think it was about $15 total and shipped out of Colorado.

I would use the 220 mesh. Maybe I am wrong but isn't 220 micons smaller than 80? My 220 Micron bubble bag is from a 5 bag set and this bag was the second to finest mesh bag. I don't like keif. With the 220 micron all I got was yellow trichome hash. Killer.

My bag would not fit over any 5 gallon buckets that I had. So I used a small round rubber maid garbage can. I used bungie ties to secure really good. Worked great. Within minutes I was smoking hash.

Also, I could not find the dry ice pellets. I bought a block of ice and carefully broke it into small pieces using an ice pick and some rubber gloves.

Xlr8: No, get the a bag that is between 65 and 80 microns... 110 is very fast, but you get plant material very quickly into your triches reducing the purity of your hash in a hurry.

Closet Farmer, I think you have the US MESH confused with microns... they are NOT the same 220MESH bag is actually .067mm or 67 microns... 220 microns is actually .22mm, 110 is .11mm, and 80 microns is .08mm. It's not like "Guage" where the bigger the number, the smaller the diameter, or the US MESH that gets smaller in diameter as the number rises.

By the chart above, your 220MESH bag was actually .067mm, or 67 micron. this makes perfect sense as 65 to 80 microns is the best size to use to separate the trichomes from the plant material before that too gets pulverized by the dry ice and begins to come through as well.

What does mesh size mean? Figuring out mesh sizes is simple. All you do is count the number of openings in one inch of screen (in the United States, anyway.) The number of openings is the mesh size. So a 4-mesh screen means there are four little squares across one linear inch of screen. A 100-mesh screen has 100 openings, and so on. As the number describing the mesh size increases, the size of the particles decreases. Higher numbers equal finer material. Mesh size is not a precise measurement of particle size.

Thank you for clarifying! I was confused with US Mesh and Microns. By your chart I am actully using the 67 microns which is perfect.

I just use the second to last bag from my 5 bag kit. I will never used the other bags again. Making bubble bag hash is very tiresome and time consuming. And the only Hash that is smokable is what goes through the second to last bag and ends up in the last bag. Now that I have microns and US Mesh figured out. I would like to find a metal 70 micron screen. I noticed some hairs come off the nylon mesh. :high-five:
:thanks:

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

hehe, glad I could clear that up for you. I thought that's what had happened. Try that shopping site that shares its name with a huge rainforest in South America. I got 5 1gal bbl bags for 35 bucks. I have tried them all, and can say that the 73 micron bag which I have is the best for this type of extraction. I can also use the 110 to extend the smoke, but reduce the quality. The first 20 seconds at best is pure, then the plant matter gets powdery after being frozen, and begins to come though as well. Toward the end, if I do it right, I can actually see the color change from chartreuse in the beginning to puce at the end...

WOW...I am almost caught up!!! lol:surrender::nomo:

Today is really the first day that I'm free all day since I've been "back" on here. Things are going fine just very fast at this moment and moving is not helping lol... I couldn't help but start my catch up with you and I am so not surprised on your results and progress so far. :circle-of-love:

Really, really great job on the harvest and collection of seeds X. I pray your health is going as good as your journal! :Namaste:

I'm not sure if you said you were going to journal the next one, but I would love to experience it. Of course your health and family come first my friend.

I am always astonished when I stop by :thanks::bravo::circle-of-love:

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Xlr8

I'm not sure of the micron size, but I use a piece of 160 silk screen used for making t-shirts and it works great for shaker hash. I think I read that in an old High Times if I remember. And it was fairly inexpensive for a 1 sq yd.

I am going to try it for the dry ice method on the current grow trim when complete.

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Looks like another great flower run coming X, great job with the prep for the next one. Loved the smoke reports too. You have me thinking about taking clones again. Think I'd like to try the rapid rooters this time, though, instead of the bubble cloner. Save a seed, clone your weed!!

Thats hillarious!! My first bubble bag purchase was from a rain forest and they were 1 gallon bags. What a waste!!!

I actually used those bags to make bubble hash!! What an awful experience!!! I thought I was the only sucker that bought those bags!! HA!!!

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Drive Bye Xlr.
Looks like another round huh. I don't think anyone can go wrong with SLH. Love the plant. Might be the best weed Greenhouse Seeds ever grew. I need to get some more of it in stock soon.
I can't make the call on the bags myself except I'd opt for the 5 gallon size. It's alot of work to do. I don't even want to think of how much work that could be. I guess if you onley have minimal material to work, but still just like garden we all start smaller than we should. I still remember not to long ago, I thought a 150 watt light wood be all I needed for a plant or two, LOL isn't that a joke. But the 220 is your working bag. It wood filter out 85% of the trash. But when you are trying for the best smoke posiable, it's surely NOT the right one. Finer screens take along time to drain. But I think if I had to do without a full set of 5 bags atleast, I'd get the working bag to get the bulk out and maybe a 120 to cut that left over 15% in half. That should be desent bubble hash. Man speaking of that I got alot of work out there in the deep freeze.
Looking good my friend Keepem Green

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Just got caught back up and wanted to throw out a big thank you for your detailed garden take down and reset post X. Love the discipline and thorough approach you take for that boring, but extremely important part of every grow. The recycling process for the rocks was especially helpful as I plan on doing that as well. Seems like a shame to throw them away.

While Im at it thanks for the info on the bubble bags from all of your readers. I am going to give the dry ice method a go next harvest but could not figure out what size bag I should get. Going to try and get my hands on a 70-80 micron size after reading the last couple of pages or just get a set if Im not able to buy just the one. Any brand recommendations as far as bags go?

Reps to a bunch of you and I Love the Pseudo-Journal X.
