Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures & Photos From The Garden - 2012

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

High X:high-five:

Man you have been busy......If OG Kush is similar to Chocolop I'm going grow some. Chocolope is so up I get the giggles.

Great job on the seeds

Is there anything you can't do? Great SLOW Journal Buddy!:circle-of-love:

Hiya OMM!

Yes, it's strikingly similar as far as the effect. Actually tastes similar to the Chocolope I grew too. I'm thrilled with it, but wish I had more. You should grow that OG18 of yours, I'll bet it's a real winner all the way around. :)

I agree, but the OG18 grows out of control so make sure if anyone grow it to stay on top of it. Otherwise, It will bush and stretch to take over its space. But it is the exact same as Reserva Prevada OG Kush, but they found a pheno that they picked for yield and flavor. Its finished product is probally one of the best medical strains Ive had. As its great for my pain, and my fiances mom loves its for RA and nerve pain. I am definitely keeping this one in rotation as I have some primo clones of her already. But anyways, enough of my OG18 talk, I could go on all day as Im so happy I found this strain. But once again buddy, great job on the harvest and Im very curious about the Deadhead OG, my collective has it so Im going to have to check it out. So what you got going on for the future X? :Namaste:

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

you got some beautiful seeds there X

:thankyou: I can't wait to grow some of these out!

Thanks brotha! I really like the OG, and Deadhead a lot. I'm noticing that both of them are helping with my nerve pain - which is my ongoing goal.

For next round of flowering with the Flo N Grow, I will be putting in rooted clones (they are recently rooted and ready to go) of:

(1) Chocolope
(2) Super lemon Haze
(1) Deadhead (same mom as one I just harvested)

Im trying to keep a limit on moms I'm keeping, but I'm anxious to start a Pineapple Express and some of my new seeds for future grows too.

Thanks for weighing in on the OG 18, I may have to give that one a shot at some point. :thumb:

Sorry but I thought I was being funny and I wasn't....tough day here. Spent the great portion of a day at the hospital with my wife. Females stuff dontcha know.

X, you always have great stuff and info! I need to find that post you had on growing from a seed. I have some sub cool querkle seeds that need a sproutin.

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Hey XL, glad things are well, cool you made some seeds :)

I'm not sure what you are talking about? I'm confused - I think I missed something, but thanks!

As far as how I germinate seeds - this is my method:

Thanks Naph!
Yeah, how cool is that?! I can't wait to grow them out - should be some really interesting crosses.

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Post harvest routine - readying for the next round:

After harvesting the last round in the Flo N Gro, I got busy cleaning the hydroton, the pots, hoses, control bucket, pumps, etc. First, I soaked the hydroton in a light bleach solution. After 24 hours, and some agitating, much of the old roots/organic material surfaced to the top of the buckets they were soaked in, which I skimmed from the bucket.

Then, I thoroughly rinsed the hydroton, using the net pots to strain/rinse. After rinsing off the bleach, I let it soak overnight in plain water. Then, rinse one last time with the netpots/strainers. I cleaned all the other equipment with bleach, well rinsed.

Next, I set up the Flo N Gro, filled the pots with hydroton, and filled the reservoir with plain water and h2o2. I ran several flood cycles over 24 hour period with the water/h2o2 solution, then drained it. Lastly, I ran plain water for several flood/drain cyles over 24 hour period to give it all a final rinse. During this time, I was paying close attention to the now reconnected hoses, fittings and pumps to make sure it was all reconnected correctly and functioning correct.

Simultaneously to all the rinsing/soaking, I made minor tweaks to the rest of my set-up. I secured my ventilation exhaust piping better. I also decided to swap out one of my ballasts, a Galaxy, with an extra Quantum I had, that was practically new, and fan cooled. I did this after running across some of their literature where they bragged about running cooler than other ballasts. That, coupled with the fact that the Galaxy it was replacing was much older unit - just something I meant to do a long time ago. I also cleaned the tent top to bottom with a mild bleach solution. I re-checked for light leaks, and put in my MH bulbs. While I was cycling h2o2 in the Flo N Gro, I was checking the temps in the tent and making sure the new ballast was operating correctly. Basically, giving everything a "dry run" while sterilizing the system. Making sure there were no surprises before I introduced the next round of plants.

Almost ready for plants. The hydroton has been thoroughly cleaned and sterilized. Here, it is being rinsed with plain water after running the system for 24 hours with a h2o2 solution:

Here are the rooted cuttings for the next round. There are a couple of "extras" in addition to the (4) I wanted, in case something didn't root or something bad happpened. I put the rooter plugs into small netpots, and then set the netpot into a solo cup. I hand water these, leaving a little reservoir underneath in the solo cup. The hydroton dries faster near the top, and the moisture just under the netcup draws the roots down. In just a couple of days, the roots are all over along the bottom of the netpot:

I wasn't sure which strains I'd want to run with the Super Lemon Haze for the next round, so I took cuttings of all the moms so I could choose. I decided not to use any of these Jack the Rippers, for example, but I might put one in a small Air pot, and sneak it in with the Flo N Gro gals in the bloom tent:

Now that everything is clean and sterile, and rinsed well, I've put my chosen cuttings into the Flo N Gro. I leave them in the small net pots, and "bury" the small net pots in the larger netpots of the Flo N Gro. You can see this pretty clearly in the bottom right Super Lemon Haze pictured below.

Top row: Deadhead OG, Super Lemon Haze. Bottom Row: Chocolope, Super Lemon Haze:

Conditions in the tent = 73f, and 49% RH. The new transplants are getting the following in a 550ppm solution:

  • BPN Grow, Micro, and Bloom at about 2.5ml per gallon
  • Atami's B'Cuzz Root stimulant*
  • Dutch Master Zone
  • Silica
  • Cal/Mag
  • Superthrive

* This is the first time I've used this in the Flo N Gro, but it does amazing things with my coco moms, so I wanted to give it a shot in the Flo N Gro.

Wow X you have been busy, but better to be clean then sorry. Loving your grow's like always! Keep up the good work.

What's your recommendation on superthrive and rooted clones?

Thanks Blazin'. :)

Since I reuse the hydroton, I do my best to make it clean. I may skip the bleach and just do h2o2 next time. I used bleach only last time, and that worked fine, too. I just had some more work to do on tweaking my set-up, and thought I'd cycle some hydrogen peroxide through everything as another precaution before starting the next round. Yes, better to be clean than sorry for sure!!

I use Superthrive when I transplant or take cuttings - supposedly helps reduce stress during those sort of situations while in veg (I believe it's mostly the B vitamins that accomplish this task). I run it as recommended on the bottle for one week in the reservoir during the time I'm taking cuttings or transplanting cuttings. Other than that, I don't use it often - and it's not something I've been using for long yet - I don't have much opinion yet, other than to say that I've had no issues since using it, and my plants seem to respond pretty positively after training/topping - how much of that is due to Superthrive? Not sure... :)

you got an awesome setup as does A1
and you leave no stone unturned :bravo:

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Nice Clean Growroom!! You really know what you are doing! :Namaste:

I just made some killer dry ice hash using the method that Mr Krip posted on your journal. Now I have found the easiest and most efficient way to make hash. Amazing!! I used my old 220 micron bubble bag and found a small bucket. I did notice a few hairs in the hash from the mesh. It would be great to find a 220 micron metal mesh. Thank you very
much!! :party::blunt:

Hows it going XLR8? I have been offsite for awhile setting up the new space, but I just had to come and see what you were up to. Its always fun to sit blaze one and check out your adventures.

HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND!

:thankyou: It's a bitch dealing with problems, so the more I can prevent in advance, the better. I'm a bit of a clean/neat freak, too. I'm almost OCD. If my wife were here she'd probably say "Almost?!"

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Dang, X! it seems you just got this thread goin' yesterday, and now you've harvested and reset already?? hehe.

I feel the same way, though those last few weeks took forever.

It's always like Christmas for me when I get to sample the first properly dried/cured nugs. By the end of the first 4-5 days, they're tasting pretty good.

I like how the taste sometimes changes as it cures. The Jack the Ripper tasted really fruity, but not too lemony after a few days drying. After a week, though, there is more lemon flavor, and the other fruity - almost cherry - flavor has become a secondary flavor. Gummy worms flavored like pink lemonade, might be the best way to describe the Jack the Ripper at the moment.

The Deadhead tastes almost identical to the Lucy from the last grow (which I LOVE) - slightly lemon, sandelwood, a hint of diesel, with a cotton candy aftertaste.

The OG Kush tastes a lot like the Chocolope - lemony/fruity with a slight chemical taste. Lemon Pinesol maybe.

I feel it's my duty to sample these all daily, to really accurately assess the taste/effect. Preferrably multiple times. ;)
