Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures & Photos From The Garden - 2012

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Very cool, Bro! I've read that when you re-veg a clone from a flowering plant, it branches out like that! There was a cool pic posted in one of the journals I'll see if I can dig up for you. Nice job! :welldone:

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

I had been thinking of entering Nug of the Month this month, but after looking at the entries I'm deciding instead to just post the pics here.

After taking the pics, I don't think I'd stand a realistic chance against some of the other beautiful entries, but since I took a few pics of a couple nice nugs I thought I'd share them anyway.

The first nug I have 2 decent pics of, but I only got one decent pic of the other.

These are both from my Soma #10 "Lavender" plant that I grew in the last round. They are different buds and pics from the Lavender buds I entered in the past (just took these pics today). This particular "Lavender" doesn't have much purpling like some of them do - most looked more like these 2 nugs. ;)

Tastes like flowers - Lavender, specifically, and it's a very strong flavor/smell. Hit's really hard with a bit of a trippy start, and a couchlock finish. This plant was harvested in 2 stages, these nugs were from the first (8 week) harvest, and have much less couch-lock to them.

Was it this one or Racefans? We just had some discussion around this a few days ago, too -- I posted a link to Racefan's journal and a pic from one of his posts... He suggests 21 days for taking a flowering clone, but mine was only 7-10 days or so (should have made a better note). I'm not sure how much of this is because it was in bloom for a week or so, because the "mom" of this clone that's in flower behaves like this too, somewhat, and she was grown from seed. Though, this clone is a much more extreme example, so perhaps that has something to do with it...

Great pics X! And, that Lavendar B pic absolutely IS NOM material!! I would vote for that anyday over a nug dipped in HO and rolled in keif...Not trying to be rude, I'm just saying...

loving them buds x, go for nug of the month, youll have my vote, thats some tasty looking buds you got their and im sure others will agree, reps for the nuggs my friend, as i was in the discusion about taking clones during the flower stage, so looking at the results you got would you say its worth it, i mean fair enough you gota wait longer till you take your clones, but are you noticing more growth compared to if you took the cutting during veg, i hope you understand what im saying, so say you took one clone during the veg cycle as normal then you took that one during flower, so if you compared the 2 would you say the clone taking during flower has got the most growth and would speed up the veg cycle before putting the clone in flower, also if you took the cutting and put it strait under 12-12 you wouldnt get all the extra growth would you, have you had any cuttings like that when you have taken them during veg cycle that have produced growth like that or is this the only time you have seen cuttings grow like that.

im wanting to take clones from my plants but their not ready yet but im deciding whether im better off waiting till their in flower before i take the cuttings, and if you didnt wait till 21days then would their be even more branches than you have got when taking the clone early.

x go for nug of the month mate, you do deserve it and they are some sexy nugs, im sure you will have a lot of votes on them buds, their better than most of the nugs ive seen in the other nug of the month contests

Hi Donpaul -

First - Thank you a ton for the kind words on the nug. I don't think I'll put this one up, but I will consider it... :thankyou:

I'm no expert at this at all, and I've only ever taken this one cutting during flower - at that, it was only something like day 7 or something...

As far as growth, it actually rooted quickly a bit to my surprise (about 7 days I think). HOWEVER, it wasn't very fast to develop vegatatively. Perhaps a bit slower than any other clone taken before bloom, but not much. I took the cutting before flowers were showing on the plant which started to happen at around day 11 or so. It was a cutting from a lower "sucker" branch which probably helped it root more quickly.

I'm pretty new to cloning, but none of the other clones I've taken have developed so much crazy side branching. I think it has more to do with the plant itself then when the cutting was taken, personally. The plant is a bit of a freak in a lot of ways - the mom from seed is crazy branchy, too, though not quite like this.

Appreciate that a bunch, Toker! Yeah, as far as the Deadhead finishing... I had to do something similar during my last grow, and I was able to work it out fine. I'll need to enlist my wife to help me out, but she's our harvest expert anyway. :)

Great pics X! And, that Lavendar B pic absolutely IS NOM material!! I would vote for that anyday over a nug dipped in HO and rolled in keif...Not trying to be rude, I'm just saying...

Thanks Quix, but I don't think it'd stand up to the competition... I'll think on it some more and I appreciate the encouragement! :)

:thanks:

Wait, do people really do that you guys?!

My guess is we have a similar root cause to our memory issues. At least I think I have memory issues, too... I forget now. Hmm. :bong:

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

did you see the picture of the super cropping one where the plant and more branches than you could count, i think teSmp was in on that debate as well, the cutting was taken around day 21 and it took a while to get back into veg but when it was back in veg the new growth was huge, ill try and find where the picture was, unless you saw it as well, i know it would take a few days extra to convert back to veg, but i was just thinking if it gave off that many new branches then this would give more yield as long as you could get the light in during flower or harvest it from the outside in over a couple of weeks, the picture looked crazy and their was loads of branches, i think ill take one or 2 cuttings before flower and some 21 days into flower, then the cuttings i took in veg would have rooted and grown so then the ones in flower could be compared then over the next few weeks and as their clones they should be pretty much the same so if their is loads of extra branches from the flower one then maybe their is something in it, but i can see light coverage been a problem with all the branches,

Was it the pic in the post/link I just made to Mr. Krip? Actually, that many branches is a huge PITA, frankly, in most respects. I like the branching of the Deadhead OG, it's much easier to manage. I know now, why Subcool says the best way to grow it is to veg it into a big bush first - I went small, and it's literally too compact. Caught me off guard as a lot of the JTR phenos get stretchy, but this one should have been vegged much longer. Now, I know!

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

yep that same plant, it would be a nightmare and im not even sure it would increase yield as theirs more twig than growth, but im wondering if you raised the lights a lot and let it stretch then it might grow out and all the branches might start growing upwards, or it might be good if you used a scrog with it, if you had a scrog very early on before all the growth then you may be able to train it a bit better, i am going to try it and see what growth i can get, it may just be that that plant was a one off and others might not be that twigy,

Yes, this pheno of the Jack the Ripper I'm growing would probably be great for a scrog type grow, and those little branches do become tops, though not very substantial ones unless you veg longer than I did with the mom in flower. Longer veg and scrog would be fantastic with this plant I think though. If you could see the way the nodes stacked on the mom who had more watts on her... I actually agree that inducing stretch might have been good with this one. I should have trimmed a lot more off of the mom that's in flower, or let her get bigger. Lesson learned - I didn't know what pheno I had 'til I flowered it - clearly this is a "short" pheno. There was very little stretch even after the flip (with a Sativa heavy strain!)

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

possibly the way the breeder wanted it to be, might be he wanted to keep it low so kept breeding it out like that, i wouldnt know though as i dont know that much when breeding is concerned,

would jack the ripper be similar strain to jack flash, i loved that back in the day, would love some of that again, really tangy smell and taste you always new when someone had jack flash as it had that distinct smell, i mean compared to other strains it really stood out, a really tangy sort of smell, hard to explain, not skunky as such but a real nice tangy smell and taste,

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

The Deadhead OG looks delicious. I like the Lavendar (A) nug shots. Good luck in the NOTM. I may enter something for fun on the 15th if we don't reach full house (25 participants).

Thanks Twelve!

I don't think I'm entering this month, but I might change my mind. I just don't think the nug will get enough love in the strong group of competition. Goodluck to you, too, if you/we run lol. Yes, it does look super yummy, but my seeding experiment will really hurt the yield in the end I think. Oh well, I knew that going in, but I was more flush with bud then, too, haha. ;) The Jack the Ripper smells incredible, but will be pretty light yielding too for same reasons I'm sure. Oh well - I'm hoping the bud will be killer, and I can/will grow more!

Hope you are doing well, and that things are looking a bit more up for you. Thanks for dropping by, Twelve. :high-five:
