Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures & Photos From The Garden - 2012

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Hey XL! Nice to see you're still at it! Everything is looking excellent as far as I can see from your recent updates! :)

Just wanted to let you know that I am back in action here for the 2012 growing season, and just completed my GDP and Blue Cheese cloning session to get my lineup for this year's outdoor grow.

Stop over and have a look when you get a chance!

Look forward to chatting with you as always during this new season!

Cheers. :)

Hey there GG7 -

Will be dropping by to check things out soon. Good to see you getting up and going again! Your outdoor plants are always fun to follow - just beautiful stuff. :)

:thankyou:

I so agree on the coco/nutes. It's amazing how much they seem to like the combo. Makes things fun when they're so happy and easy to please.

Thanks for the picture bump too, my friend. Hope your back is feeling better - sorry for griping about mine in your thread. I can completely relate at the moment, though.

Yes easy to please, suits my needs right now as well.

No problem gripe anytime. I hope you get to feeling better soon. Have a couple :bigtoke: on me.

Just a few pics today of the girls flowering in the Flo N Gro - sure is fun to see them start to put on just a little more weight and frostiness. Took these right after lights out. :)

:thankyou: HMG, sometimes I gripe too much -- much prefer to stay positive and optimistic. Oh, and yes I took a couple of big vape rips! :)

Looking simply awesome, my friend! :welldone:
And, I finally spread enough +REPS around that I could give you some again. So, I did! +REPS! :bravo:

I love that canopy shot. They all look real frosty great job. I'm trying to stay positive as well some days are easier than others though.

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

that canopy is looking amazing mate, looks like you gone av sum very nice smoke when its finished, i would love to try a scrog, but without knowing if ive get male or female its not worth me doing, but when ive got some clones off a femail ill give it a try, looking at your results it does look like a brilliant idea

Thanks guys, but looks are a bit deceiving perhaps. This isn't really a scrog, but I did use some nylon cording/webbing to help manage the canopy some. The spacing is too wide for it to really work for SCROG, and I wasn't trying for that anyway.

What I did was top them all, and continuously manipulated the branches by tying them down so that I had as many as 10-12 "tops" per plant. These plants have a fair amount of Sativa in them, so I trained them to stay fairly low and bushy -- but stopped short of a SCROG. The end result is similar in that I end up with many tops and a fairly even canopy. I'd like to do a SCROG someday, however.

The webbing/nylon cord I'm using comes as an accessory add on by one of the tent manufacturers, Secret Jardin. It's similar to this and really handy (mines a different size I think):

Thanks buddy. I was just drooling over your latest pics. Those Lucy colas look huge! :high-five:

Thanks a bunch HMG. I like pics like that, too. Tough as hell to stay positive, sometimes, huh? I like to share that I say this quote to myself every day (and I really do):

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

what ever method the amount of tops you got is great, i dont think they would hold themselves up without the sort of scrog in place, but it does look nice,

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

It don't matter what its called as long as they happy and you satisfied with their production then all is good under the hood!

How old were the plants when you did this?? My hydro shop is suggesting I wait until the 3rd week of bloom to put my netting up. What I am confused about is...........do you just let the plants go through the netting? Or do you give them help and put the fan leaves under the netting?

And reps to you for some nice looking plants my friend :theband:

Like it or not, yer-a-scroggin Brother, lol,(Psssst...I like it)

Well, call it what you will I suppose, but it was sure handy in that it gave me a few more places to tie things to! :)

I think a SCROG would be working the branches under the screen more horizontally. I put this in more as an afterthought as I remembered buying it a few months back as I thought it would be handy. The truth is the spaces are just too big to be much of a good SCROG net. That probably wouldn't be tough to fix though by tieing extra string/cord in there. I'm severely tempted to modify it slightly and use it to scrog sometime soon. Hmm...

First off, thanks buddy. I'm happy with things so far. :)

As far as how old -- I went back and dug that up - looks like it was around day 21-24 from the switch to bloom that I put this in. I'm re-attaching this pic from right after I put it as you can see it much better than the newer pics. This is really the first time I've used something like this as an aid, so I'm not sure what the best timing is, frankly.

When I put mine in, I just put it in right under the existing canopy height, and did move tops/leaves under the net some to spread it out and keep the canopy even. Basically, any time a grow tip (top) would start to get above the others, I'd pull it down and over, using the net to anchor it. My goal here is to keep it all even if possible (the Deadhead OG got a little tall on the back side when I wasn't feeling as well, but not too bad). This training is a daily process for the first 3-4 weeks, and can be pretty time consuming. It's best if you can make adjustments daily (at least seems like that to me).

I think it was Mr Smith that taught me to think of it like "Whack a Mole". Basically, just pulling one branch down, and when the next one passes it, pull it down, etc.

I had picked this netting up cheap several months ago, and one night I had one of those light bulb moments :idea:and put it in to help give me more places to tie branches to. You can see, if you look close, that I did have a few branches bent right over (gradually/gently) and running somewhat horizontal under the net to help keep the canopy even.

Day 24 bloom photo - soon after netting put in:

:thankyou: Chief! I really wanted to keep this grow as low and even as possible since any of these strains could have easily gotten out of control height-wise. I might have benefitted from more veg time, but worst case scenario it's a learning opportunity. :)
