Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures & Photos From The Garden - 2012

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

I wouldn't mind if it were like a debate on cloning procedures or something......but it's not
I hate political shit

was it political? i thought it was about some big brother shit looking into your business.........:MoreNutes:

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Thinking, not decided, but thinking of doing something different for the next round:

I'm debating trying a Coco coir run in the Flo N Gro next round... You can get what amounts to "Smart Pot" inserts (not sure who actually makes them) that would go in the netpots to allow you to do coir. If I did, I'd keep a cutting for a "new" Super Lemon Haze mom, and put her and ?? in the Flo N Gro, coir and all. That way, I can start with a new smaller mom (as veg space is limited), and have a jump start on the next grow with an already multi-topped and vegged plant or two... The other plant could be another run of the Jack the Ripper or Deadhead OG to go with the SLH, as I have "moms" of these now, too, and could just keep another cutting of each. I'd get to flowering quickest this way, also.

Plus, I like coir, and it'd be interesting to try coir in the Flo n Gro, right?

I'm thinking I'd only need to flood/drain the buckets once a day, perhaps twice. Hmmm.... There used to be a grower here that did coco coir in a similar set-up, and he sure grew nice plants. So, I think it has potential.

Still need to noodle on it, but thought I'd share what I've been thinking about for the next flowering round.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

So what are the advantages of using coir?

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

question
how big of an hps does it take to sustain 3 flowering plants?
just curious im using t-8's and will stick to tehm for now and see what results come out before i decide if im switching or not but just like to know
i figured i ask here cause theres so many people on this thread :thankyou:

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

hey x n alaskan, av you had any dealings with auto's, i got one just breaking the soil now from seed, will these grow under any lighting schedule and would they need to be grown using flower lights or could they be grown in a veg room,

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Yes, check out the 3rd link in my signature "Big Bang Auto" grow. I've only grown one, but I was happy with how it turned out.

My advice on autos:

Don't top them or defoliate them. If you want to get more light to budsites, stick to tucking leaves out of the way. Autos should be thought of as "in flower" from the day you start them. Any trimming, topping or defoliating takes flowering time away from the plant by stressing it.

Lighting period: Unless otherwise suggested by the breeder, 20/4 is a nice lighting schedule for auto-flowers.

Other than that, they grow about the same!

You have already asked this question in this journal. I'm not trying to give you a bad time or anything, but it seems to me maybe a little reading would help you. Here is the auto grow by X Click here to read.

I am soaking up the clone info. I just took 6 clones early in flower. They have all rooted, and one has flowers. I took other clones shortly before from a plant in flower, and had trouble getting them to quit blooming and to grow normal leaves. I did put them under 16 hrs of light to reveg at first. I switched to 24 hr light, and the first clones are finally getting normal veg growth. We'll see how this new batch does under constant light.:peace:

Hi Cronic - well the more light the better, but 600w would be very nice. I am flowering 3 with 2 400w right now. So much of it depends on how long you let them veg and how big you let them get. Also there are ways to grow that maximize your available light, such as vert set-ups that can help. I believe 50w per sq ft is sometimes a benchmark, so there's another way to think of it. You could do it with a 400w, but would affect yield compared to 600w. 1000w would allow you to grow 3 monsters. Sometimes the shape of the space dictates this somewhat. In my space 2 600s would be hard to keep cool, but 1 400w wouldn't reach edges well (my space is rectangle)... So, I went with 2 400w, but 1 600w would have worked well, too. My flower tent is about 3' deep, by 5' wide and about 7' tall, if that helps. :)

It helped me out for sure!! Bigger isn't always better!!

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

I wanna come back on those 400 watts , think the 400's have a better light spectrum than 600's anything above 600 without co2 can get easily overkill .

I think 600 watt on a m2 is more than enough .
I'm always scared with anyting above 600 , plants seem to have troubles with evaporate so they start evaporating from the inside and create budrot .

What your opinion on that >?

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

So what are the advantages of using coir?

Good question Alaskan1, and I'm not sure if I can answer that well as I'm just starting to use it myself in the past couple of months.

To me, it's that ability to hold moisture without losing it's airiness that makes it shine. It's mostly inert, so it doesn't really add anything in terms of nutrition (perhaps a negligible amount of potassium). For me it also boils down to initial results in veg, too. I've been vegging moms and clones now in it for a couple of months, and they've all been extremely healthy and happy.

As far as in the Flo N Gro, not sure how much I'd like it compared to hydroton, but who knows? I know it can be done (they make a special insert for it) but I haven't seen many do it. I'm just awfully impressed by how much the hand watered plants I have in my veg space like it. It's really something how quickly and fully the root systems expand and develope in the coir. Crazy awesome quick roots in every seedling and cutting so far.

I just liked the idea of taking a multi-topped mom or two or three and jumping right to flower (at least pretty quickly) and getting a quicker turn on the next crop. An added benefit would be freed up space in my small veg space. An ex member here had an Ebb N Gro running coco coir, and he had some really nice plants, so it might be good. Would accomplish a few things for me, and be an interesting learning experience to boot, so I'm seriously considering it...

SOB - I like it!

I've only taken this one clone in flower - and it was only about a week or so into the bloom cycle. It hadn't and hasn't grown any flowers, and I threw it right under 24/0 lighting schedule. It actually had roots in about 7-8 days so it didn't root slow as a result of being one week into bloom. Should be interesting to see how yours turn out! I'll have to keep an eye on your journal - are you going to track your results there? Nice to see you, Tricome! :high-five:
