Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures & Photos From The Garden - 2012

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

I really want to try that jack the ripper! I like tga genetics. will be getting more of his stuff in the future! I wanted to know how you like running the flo and gro inside the gl80l.

How long have you been runnning the flo and gro setup in the tent ? do you like it ?
The gl80l is an awesome tent and cant wait to try some other setups inside it!

This journal moved like 4 pages yesterday, so it got a little hectic. I just realized that I answered most of your post, Shottafire, but not all of it. This is only my second run with the Flo N Gro system - but as I said, it's all been very positive so far. I have literally zero complaints about it to date, other than it takes a whole lot of hydrton (or whatever medium you wish to choose).

One benefit of it for me, is that bucket systems like this are relatively low to the ground, which helps maximize vertical space.

Also, since I keep my reservoir outside of the tent, and it's only in the tent for flood cycles, it's much easier to keep the nutrient water cool (vs. a DWC system or other system where much of the water/nutrients stays in the tent exposed to heat output from the lights, etc.)

The roots on both my first run and this run are abundant and white. The plant health speaks for itself I think in the pics - they love it! I actually had planned to do a DIY recirculating DWC system by now (something like the Under Current system by CCH2O) but I ended up liking this so much that I've put that project on the back burner. It's so simple to run and low maintenance, and the plants thrive with it. I think Alaskan1 might have mentioned this, too, but here is a review I did on it:

I never even thought about that -- now I kinda want to dump my avatar, lol. I don't want no stinkin' male, mang! I'm no cannahomophobe, but I dig chicks more, so to speak. Can I pretend you didn't point that out to me?! :thedoubletake:

You really dumped, it huh? Damn, I sorry man.

He could get lucky, and get his perfect avatar as a gift from a friend, like I did.
I am not gifted in the graphic arts, and needed un-asked for help.
Thanks again, Soniq420

Not because of you! Just was something to do based on Quix's suggestion, but I think I might go back to the other -- I still like it and this doesn't seem like me. :)

Haha - cool that he did that. I wish I was more artistic - I feel like I have good ideas but can't always make them happen. :)

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Personally, I like the avatar you have now. I identify you by it.

I went back to the old one (the one I've had the last several months - I'm pretty sure that's the one you mean). I was up for a change, but I couldn't find anything I felt comfortable with. Plus, I identify me by it, too. I was getting confused by my own change, lol!

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Today I took the little space I created to veg plants in, and added another level.

A couple of months ago, I took one of those bakers racks and set it up so it straddles my reservoirs underneath. Basically, I've taken advantage of some dead space above my reservoirs. Initially, I had it set up so that I had only one shelf under a T5, but it was getting a little crowded. So, today, I rearranged and added another tier so that I'll have 2 seperate levels for vegging. The plants aren't positioned yet the way they will be, but the plan is to have the top level for cloning/germination, and the level directly below that for small moms I'm keeping. I have some reflective film that works like a curtain to cover the front.

In this picture the Deadhead OG clone/future mom is on the top shelf, and the shelf below has a Jack the Ripper clone/future mom, Super Lemon Haze mom, Super Lemon Haze clone, and a Chocolope seedling. Tomorrow I think I'll top the Deadhead OG future mom, and move it back down and rearrange some more. I love how nicely this has been working, and the beauty of it is that it was all dead space (and my space is limited):

Top shelf, Bro! :)
:welldone:

Very nice! Very nice, indeed! Looks like a great place to do some cloning, too! Humidome top right and all.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty psyched about how it worked out - my wife told me last week she was amazed at how much I had going on in such a small space. I told her, "You ain't seen nuthin' yet!" ;)

Jandre - yes, that's the plan I think -- top shelf will be for cloning and seedlings, bottom shelf for small moms. :)

Notice how the cables/yoyos for the T5 4 bulb fixture go through the shelf above it and up to the very top shelf. It doesn't put off much heat at all, and the space between the top of the fixture and the hanging cables seemed so under utilized, so I tried to get creative and recapture that space. Happily it seems like it'll work out just right!

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

A special Thank You:

Yesterday, I was very surprised to see myself nominated for the Member of the Month contest. I just wanted to say a very special thank you to Alaskan1 for the nomination, it sincerely made my day! I don't do things here or try to contribute here for to win a contest, but it sure does feel good to be nominated for something like that. :)

Also, I have to confess something. I realize I've already won this before, but some of you may remember the drama that was going on at that time with some former members and a competing website (I'm not going to dig up old bones...)

The month I won, I was actually in third place (a close third at least) but the (2) people ahead of me were banned from the site, believe it or not, the last day of the contest. I woke up the following morning to all kinds of congrats that I didn't really feel like I deserved, but I didn't want to stir things up more than they were at that time (if you were here, you'll understand what I mean) so I graciously accepted, though I was a bit embarrassed by the whole thing to be truthful.

I've always felt like I backed into it - or didn't really earn it - for that reason, and it's nice to get another shot at it. I'd love to remove the asterisk I imagine next to my name someday, lol, but I'm just happy to get another nomination.

Anyway, I wanted to just say, big big thanks to Alaskan1 for that opportunity, and also sincere thanks to Quix who voted for and supported me on the contest thread. Win or lose, it just feels really good to be nominated and considered next to so many other great contributors here.

:thanks: a ton!

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

That's a nice little stand, I just picked one up last week for the same purpose. I'm going to be putting my dome on the bottom shelf and seedlings and freshly rooted clones on the top shelf.

You got my vote for MoM you are a great asset to :420:

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

Dude, believe me....there's NO asterisk next to your name!

With or without the title, you deserve it, and if you didn't win it in that month, you would have been nominated and won within a month or two of that. The fact that you did win, even with some diqual's, just prevented it from happening again sooner! :goodluck:

Yep! I agree 420%. X has been contributing here for a long time, on especially as of late, he's been contributing even more! I have never nominated anyone before, but I was already planning to nominate him next month!
Yeah, X, we remember the whole debacle, an I also remember how sideways you were about the win...You're just humble, it's what I like about you. You think I'm interested in hydro? Lol. You deserved the win last year, and you deserve it now...Cheers, Friend.:Namaste:

I don't know what to say, except a sincere :thanks:

I probably shared too much, but I guess in addition to saying thanks, I wanted to share why it felt great to be nominated again. :)

HMG - those bakers racks are handy things, huh? It was one of the best buys I've made in a while. The reason I planned on the dome being on top, is that the very small amount of heat from the fixture below should make a nice warm bottom area for cuttings and seedlings with the heat rising and all. I'm sure it works fine either way, though.

Thanks again, guys. :high-five:

Re: Xlr8's Hydroponic Adventures and Photos from the Garden - 2012

@X you do deserve it mate, you got my vote as well, the 2 main people who have helped me have been x and tesmp, both are equal and have helped me the most and have given great advice to me and others, i changed my screen name x so my old 1 was pauldonp, just had that name in to many places and didnt want to bring the ontop so i got my name changed, so it is deserved mate, well deserved, if i could vote for 2 then i would, not even voted once yet but now its mentioned im going to go n vote,

if Tesmp's name was up their it would of been a hard call, but ill nominate him next month, didnt even know you could nomonate people, but u both deserve it in my eyes, lots of advice and plenty of help and you both have got time for others, some idiots on this site n i wont mention any names but from the last arguments the other day im sure you know who im taking about, they dont want to help and not interested in helping even when it says their here to help, their only interested in themselves and their own grow, but not X or tsemp their both in it to help, the way i look at it is where all here to learn and share our experiences and keep the cause alive, so well dont for been nominated its well deserved
