:thankyou: for the quick response and detailed information! +rep

When I put the bud in the jar it was pretty dry on the outside but it was dense and the stems on the big ones wouldn't snap yet. The smaller ones I tried did though. I thought I had read somewhere that this a correct way to tell when to jar it. Does this sound right?

" the green usually goes black, rare, or blondish, brownsual"- Are you referring to color of the inside of the bud, "hairs"(which are the typical red on mine) , or the ashes?(black from the joint)

As far as my flush, I'm growing in hempys with Osmocote +. So is really no way to flush them. I had read from other growers that this was not an issue. When you asked about the flush though it just occurred to me that I've been using a light(always less than half strength) solution of GH flower nutes for a mild phosphorus deficiency and cal/mag for calcium as well. Both worked well at fixing their issues at about 3/4 weeks into flower but I never stopped using them so they never had a chance to flush out.DOH! I'd bet thats allot of the problem.

So if the bitter doesn't go away with some time, a water cure will work? I knew that 10 days wasn't a full cure, but I didn't expect it to be so harsh. The first harvest I had didn't taste like this, with about the same amount of time in a jar. Wasn't anything special, but I blamed it on the plant having deficiencies half its life with less than optimum yields(kinda airy). I figured this harvest would be much better(it definitely is in yield and buzz)than that one because the plant stayed in good health all the way through, the buds were dense and heavy, and it was covered in trichomes. Also I had a microscope this time to check them with(I harvested at about 25% amber.

Thanks again for your help. Any help/advise is greatly appreciated.

Please let me know if my newbie questions become excessive Woodsman I can ask them in grow support area if you wish.

ok, this required ear phones, music, and a bowl full ... the leaves will turn brown....the zulu turns kinda gold, but the leaves are lighter colored....yes, the stems is a good yard stick, BUT...i put mine in when the outside is still soft on the buds, some say that is too early, but, i do it that way, esp. after reading all i could about tobacco curing, no books on curing mmj....i think the reason they say when the stems snap is because most will not open and exchange the air often enough and it will mold....i lost the biggest bud i ever grew due to that, just forgot it like a jerk....now i keep it in the kitchen where i have to see it....usually put the jars in a large brown bag, this is my way, and it works for me...they're in my road....so you'll have to find out what works best for you...if it is too wet, i take it out and put on the table a couple times a day and leave the lid off the jar, until it starts to do it right....by put it on the table i mean dump the jar out and leave it spread out for a while, half hr or so....then re jar and leave the lid off....if i leave it on the screen for too long or in a sack over near the bud room, i have soooo many dehumidifiers running and fans that it is crispy critter in two days, even in a curing box with lid on the screens....so im improvising and it is fine....been working over a yr. now, before, i always just commercial dried it and it burned up my throat, and made me cough....now its like air with a kick in the head, and a great smell and taste....when its flushed acc. to ed. r. it is white ash, yes it is....when it is really well flushed, and cured, it smokes to a white cloud ash...it all burns up....it is wonderful...and once you find your path, yours will be great....when it snaps and pops, it isnt just small and underdeveloped seeds, it is the fert....i know some of my good friends here use osc+. and i use it in the pond plants and the garden, vegetables, but in the pot i use other stuff...i dont know if it has heavy metals in it or not....its not just organic, but heavy metals that need to be watched for...i am sure that both mt. high and omm have cked into the osc well as both love it, so they would be good to ask also....its not my place in life to convert or convince anyone what to do....to each his/her own....whatever we can do and will do is good...and i applaud their grows, it is whatever works for you....i thank you for listening to what im saying, but i would also say to talk to as many others as poss. and also get their take on it....then make your own educated plan...one size does not fit all....and with that, ask anything, anytime, but remember, it is my opinion only, and we all have one....and thank you woodsman for letting me go off on your thread....i go for white cloud ash....hugs,oh, and as a p.s., i just finished that pipe, one thumb nail size bud, and what is left is half a pea size cloud of white fluff... Thanks for sitting down with bowl and some tunes, to answer my questions:rocker: thats awesome!

Came back and burnt the rest of that j today, it smoked alot better today. I think allot of the problem was that I screwed up and tried to burn a wet bud.
So I checked some of the medium sized buds in the jar and yep, their still pretty moist. I not saying that it won't have a taste from not flushing right, but its probably going to be alot better than what I thought(hopefully) .

I also started a grow journal, its not up to speed yet, but I'm working on it as I go. So, anyone who wants to come over and checkout the girls, is welcome to do so. I'll figure out how to put a link in my sig once I get the plants posted.
For now it's here-https://www.420magazine.com/forums/journals-progress/129951-white-widow-fem-perpetual.html

:rollit:Test is off to the lab! I came home rolled one up, took three hits, and had to lay it down before it killed me. The high is amazing. I smoked alittle over an hour ago and I'm still going up. One of those highs where when your minds moving a mile/minute, but you're super stoned.

On a bad note though, it tastes like shit. Don't know what I did wrong but some thing is defiantly up. The bud looked and smelled awesome, all through growing, harvesting, box drying for a week, then paper bagged for 3 or 4 days, and about ten days in jar moved around every day. They looked and broke up good too. My fingers were nice and sticky afterward but the bud was totally dry, but the joint smoked kinda slow and the smoke was harsh. Also the ashes were almost black.

Any help or advise on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hope everything is still going well in your neck of the woods!

Lavendar you can 'go off' anytime you like over here. Elbee you go ahead and ask away, I'm sure you'll get help real quick, as you just did from a great master grower (and all around good person) in Lavendar.

Lavendar gave great advise and was also correct that some of use will dry or start their cure at different times. I bag my stuff, fluff it around every day (more the better) until the outside of the bud feels stiff or dry-like to the touch. Then it gets weighed, (stuff gets lighter as the plant slowly loses moisture) placed into a labeled jar with includes the strain, date of cure (start) and perhaps condition of trichomes when harvested and anything else that may be of interest. Then it's placed in a dark area where each day I open (burp) the jars and dump the contents into a bowl that's sitting on my scale. I do this (burp) until the larger stems 'crack' or 'snap' rather when bent. At least a week or even two till this happens. Then I can leave the jars alone to cure for as long as I wish.

When you mentioned that your ash is black, the first thing I thought of was Miracle Grow ferts and no flush, I'm not sure if the cal mag leaves residue, but then I am not an expert and that is where the rest of our crew comes in to help! I'm sure we all have ways to cure that differ, I for one knew very little on the subject prior to coming here (420). What I've explained above is 'stuff' I picked up from others and have applied it to my own grows. I've got some Nl#5 from May 1st (approximate) that is out of this world now as far as taste. I thought it was great a couple of months ago, it got even better!

Harvest Update

On Tuesday I chopped the rest of Bagweed #1A (my mind bending weed) I plan on giving you all a final total dry weight for each of my plants when I don't have to burp it's jar anymore. This last third of the plant came in at 130 grams wet.

Same Cola opposite side where you can see where I had old stem borer damage. I've lost perhaps 1/4 of my buds to them so far (estimate). Just thought I'd turn one over for ya all to see what 'the other side' looks like!LOL I don't like showing the damaged part, too painful for me when I see it over and over again.

DSCN1710.JPG

I've got to remember to take pics of the 'living' plants! They are all looking terrific and have all gained in size with dramatic quickness the last week. The Bubba Kush has got some trichomes on her now and the NL#5, Mazar and even the Runt are doing very well also.

You process sounds similar to mine. I,
1-hang in a box for about a week.
2-when most of the mid sized buds break will break off of the large stems(Note, large stems are not dry)-they go in to brown paper bags.
3-then into jars when the stems will "crack"
4-By the next day it feels kinda soft and I too have been emptying/rearranging them daily.

Like I said ^somewhere, it smoked alot better today. It burnt evenly really resined up.

Pick of, in question, joint and bud,

My curing method, after the box, in a nut shell,(the jars are from a bagseed harvest, the WW fit in a single jar and weighed it in at 22g dried).

Awesome harvest Woodsman,:goodluck: on the weather and your girls finishing up.

Elbee you remind me of myself a few months ago, I was totally worried about drying/curing. I feel much better now.

The key is the environment. If you can keep the RH and temps down drying and curing is pretty easy.

BUT if the above are not under control you'll have problems, especially with mold.

My first harvest was at the worst possible time here, super hot and humid and no a/c. I had all kinds of mold problems and ended up water curing most of the crop.

This time the weather is perfect.

Good luck!

Thanks for the nice words and the encouragement.
Nice set up Elbee!
About your drying process, the only thing that I would question is when you say this, "3-then into jars when the stems will "crack"

My little buds don't 'crack' when I put them in the jar, Only the outside of the bud is dry or feels dry and 'crusty'. The stems are still damp (even the tiny buds). They will dry out eventually in the jars as I exchange the air inside them every day. After a week or two of burping and 'all' the stems can 'snap' I close them up and burping is no longer necessary. This is the way that I do it, hopefully it is the correct way or 'one of the correct ways'.

No doubt and I did, but then with the temps everything dried really fast. It was a royal pain in the butt. I'm going to try to never harvest here again from July to mid-Sept.

I'm so happy for how your grow has gone Woodsman! Here's hoping for the late ones to finish too. Only downside is I'll miss your awesome ongoing journal.

Thanks for your kind words Blue. You know that even though the fan and the heat will dry your stuff quicker, you only need to dry the outside of the buds before placing them in the jars. Burping every day will dry them evenly eventually. No need to have them over dried prior to placing the buds in the jar.

Pics coming up!

Sounds like I may be jarring them a little late. I wait until the stem inside the bud makes a little crack when flexed, then put into jars. After they are in the jar for a day, the buds are soft and kinda flexible again. I've been dumping them out and rearranging once a day. 12 or 13 days in the jar now and its still kinda moist. You cannot take a bud outa the jar and smoke it but if you set one out for 8 10 hours it'll smoke nice, kinda green tasting but tolerable. I think I just need to be patient, and wait for it to cure.

Photo Update of 'The Living'!

Finally able to take some pics of the ladies that are still growing outside. It was windy today so the pics may or may not be the greatest quality (some blurriness).

Still growing are: NL#5 (from seed), The Runt (NL#5 in regeneration), Mazar (free seeds from same place as the NL#5's) and the Bubba Kush (fem seed).

I could not reposition the plants the way I would like for the pics because...........
I re-injured my lower back again (I do this just by breathing). Spasms and such, My wife had to dress me this morning! I couldn't hold myself up in bed and could not stand or walk without help. LIKE AN OLD PERSON and I'm only 53. After icing the area, I am able to move around somewhat (what you don't feel won't hurt you, right?). So after icing the area for twenty minutes I was able to get to the deck (with my hickory cane) and take these pics. My wife was in the bathroom at the time and has no idea I got up and did this. If she knew this, she would have a fit! "So you can't dress yourself, but you can go outside and take pictures?" Somethings are better left unsaid! Hopefully these spasms will only last a short time. I've got some painting and deck work to do at my brothers place. I was planning on doing that this weekend! Doesn't look good for now.

Instead of going to the artisan spring for water (they need it bad), my wife will pick up some distilled water from Wally's later.

Thanks all for taking the time to look at my grow! As always, your comments and suggestions are very much encouraged!

Elbee you might want to look at this thread by Irish. She knows her stuff, and I found this to be very informative. I think she'd tell you to stop burping so much, you don't have that much moisture left to complete the cure and you need to conserve it.

Your most likely fine then if they get soft after being in the jar.

Hey buddy, looks like you tried to get your signature up. ust that you make the same mistake most of us make at the beginning. You missed a step or two, like forgetting to 'highlight' the title or not using the hyperlink correctly. When you get time. do it over and follow each step.

You'll also learn how to 'multi quote' eventually. I did the same as you (manually quoting).

excellent advice....

and whoever that little cabinet belongs to, the only other i would say, is that even after drying/curing, the light will still age the t/s so might make sure it is kinda dim....but the shelves ect are gorgeous....and perfect sized...

my one wish is someone would make large blue/green/ or amber qt. and half to one gallon jars ... then we could sit and look at the jars with no light danger at all....

go growers grow....great job everyone...hugs, L
