Winter Weedy Wonderland - Auto Grow - Royal Queen Seeds

Time to break out the big guns for squeezing. There is nothing for scale but these are a huge set of pump pliers.

Well, I tried to use regular pliers yesterday with the quarters to test how it worked......no likey. My hands were killing me. LOL We get old...we lose strength. It's. just. not. fair. ;)
Do you have (or have access to) a bench vise?

I have those too. But those locking vise grip pliers are what I am going to use. I can tighten as needed and it's soooo much easier on the hands.
I also came up with the juicer5000. It works ok, I think it needs a few tweeks.

Juicer 5000

I hope this link works, my computer skills suck.

I have several sizes of these. I'm going to gorilla glue the coins to a set and use them for just the brix testing purpose. I have some of those snap out flat metal pieces from an electrical box that I would prefer, but cannot locate them yet.

Close the grip when it’s drying so the surfaces set aligned properly. Just saying, you don’t want to glue it together and it doesn’t crush the leaf lol

I keif press or similar might be easier to manage if you don’t have the strength for pliers.
I just responded on Gee64's thread to Ramblin dude's post, that I was contemplating my pre-press mold for this.
Might work much better than the vise grips, and a helluva lot easier on my hands. LOL
Thanks!
Edit: matter of fact....I'm going in to try the actual rosin press (unheated of course)

Alllllrighty then! I had a fleeting thought of using the Rosin press yesterday and completely forgot. Thanks all of you for getting me off my arse and motivated to try. LOL
This is going to work effortlessly. I just have to get the leaf balled up and better positioned in the press before pressing it down. This was a quick test.

Nice squeeze Lady C!

Ok I’ve gone down and did the thangs for the neighbor. Here is her setup. I was sure it had a lid but it doesn’t. And you can believe with every fiber of your being we have a ton of pesty animals out here. She doesn’t have a problem with anything rummaging the compost often. She said she has way more problems with animals going after her vegetables while they are growing.
IMG_1531.jpeg

Three containers she moves fresh table waste into the first one and then moves it all down the line as it composts. Ending with her mix of soils and the compost and more worms.

IMG_1535.jpeg

She said it’s critical to leave gaps between the wood and to make one face removable so you can shovel out the compost to move it. She has achieved this by leaving screws in the wood on top, where the next piece will sit on that and leave a nice gap. The face is removable because it’s build to just slide into the slots.

Her raised beds. I was able to use one off over by the woods last year for some Brussels sprouts, carrots, cabbage, peppers, broccoli, watermelon and cantaloupe. But I imported a ton of soil, that bed I used was abandoned for some years and I had to really fix it up and fill it in. I wish I’d been able to use her soils!

The raised beds are 4x8x2’

Nice that lady set up official she def knows wat she doing,45 years is a real long time to be composting!! You better take that soil n keep it going, very easy to compost small amounts I use a large tote see

I usually only use soil amendments like myco organic humus, epsoma ECT I recently discovered on 420 that I can compost my plant material and pedals and all that to control how much of what is going into the soil. I'm still new but it's going great,I found if I always keep like 5 to 10 gals of soil I can carry the compost almost until I get more soil so I never start from scratch except on start up. This soil around 3 months old. You gotta do a comparative grow with her soil bro!!! I'm curious af rn !!! Cool lady, she has anointed you to carry on the legacy and become the Maine master dirt churner ! Go forth and conquer with the power of decomposition !!

That is awesome. I'll look that over more tomorrow when I'm at my PC. Phone sucks. Lol
Thanks for this!

The grow room was a little chilly this morning. When I flipped to 12/12 the other morning, I forgot to open the heat vent in the room. Got down to 68 F. overnight. That's not awful bad, but I sure want to keep those temps higher than that in there.
Vent opened....
Maybe someday I'll learn how to grow weed. LOL

I hope I don't get spanked for this being off topic somehow. I don't believe it is because it is referencing soil to use to grow our weed. So, no more comment on that. LOL
Here's my question: What is the 50 gallon or so trash container used for? It looks like there is a hose attached for water?
Thanks!

That bin is just to catch rainwater off the roof of her cabin. It’s in the compost just out of the way for winter and the hose is not related. I dumped the water out of it and set it there a couple months ago when it was getting colder. The whole set up is in winter mode, that’s why certain things are out of place, for storage. That shinny windmill thing is to keep birds or deer away I can’t remember which

Well, it's finally here.
I have added new equipment to my grow toys. ;-)
@Gee64 or anyone else, any tips or hints on using the refractometer? Cleaning etc.?

I have the AC Infinity VPD IR thermometer and the Aichos portable Optical Refractometer.
I'll put these to use later today. Apparently there is no heat in the zon delivery trucks, these two boxes were seriously cold. I used my IR kitchen thermometer on them when I brought them in, they were at 38 F. LOL

That's the same refractometer I have. You need to calibrate it with some distilled water and a small screwdriver if I remember correctly. Gets to squeezing.

Just now reading the little instruction booklet. Was too cold to handle for a while. LOL
It came with a little screwdriver, so thank gawd I don't have to go looking for one of those tiny things.
Hopefully I have some distilled water left, if not...I need to get my distiller working today. Which I needed to do anyway.
