Winter Weedy Wonderland - Auto Grow - Royal Queen Seeds

I am putting the bases together this morning. I am impressed with the quality and construction of these.
First thing I did was singe the ends of the wicks to prevent fraying. So easy to put together, and my 5 gallon fabric pots fit very nicely on them.

I am very curious about those bottom self watering base ? That's very cool, where does it pull water from ? A hose or does it have a reservoir ? Is it timed or does it function similiar to a glass bulb waterer?

The base is the reservoir. The water is pulled in through the wicks to the bottom of the fabric pot. This size holds about a gallon of water, but you can get larger bases that hold over 2 gallons. I am filling mine with a watering can from gallon jugs. There is a post earlier from @Grand Daddy Black where he uses a battery operated siphon from a 5 gallon bucket to fill his bases.
The base has a water level floater gauge included so you can see the level and know when it needs filling.

Oohhh I see nice so this is a wicking method self water reservoir,ty I see. So you say there is larger and automated version as well ?? Hmmmm I gonna check them out for sure. You found them on Amazon?

Huh....I never thought about that, but a zippo lighter wick still wicks after it's burned ? ....idk if that applys here tho ?
...but the wick doesn't burn, only the vapour above it

Not sure singing the ends is a good idea LC - doesn't that seal up the ends?
My first thought was a sharply angled cut would be best for wicking but I really don’t know what I’m talking about, just guessing.

I’m excited to see how these do for you. They’ve been in my cart for like 6 months lol but I never pull the trigger. I think because I move my plants too often. But with this indoor grow I’ve moved them very minimally. Excited to see either way.

Yea I think your right...doesn't apply here...so maybe the flames change the make up of the wick when burned ....can u test the wick ?? Before u set up base ..somehow ? Like a cup to cup transfer with the wick
Yes you can test how effective a wick is by draping it over the edge of a cup of water, the outside end will drip and eventually empty the cup

Yea they really seem to be a great idea and don't take up much more space than the pot,I could use those and not need any extra space in my flower room. A quick question tho about the wick placement,is it meant to drape along outside of pot or are u going to pull wicks thru the bottom of grow pot ??

I hadn't thought about that. The ends of the wick in the packaging were sealed, so I just went with it. I'm going to test it out with a spare piece of wick here in a cup. Wouldn't be hard to just go back in and trim the ends at an angle as someone else suggested. :thumb:

The wicks are pulled through holes in the top of the base and hang in to the reservoir below.

I think these are going to be one of those game changer kinda doodads for me on the PITA watering during the winter.

I did the wicks in the method suggested by you guys, and I'll test out that sealed ends thing in a bit.
Here's the girls sitting atop their new elevated homes. I'm hoping this is going to get the humidity in the room up some too. We'll see on that.

Yea I bet your right it should help with that humidity,I'm having rh issues as well but only because it's the middle of winter up here in CT. Looks very high tech and sterile. Very cool
