Who Let The Dogs Out? Chem Comparison Grow!

I love dark devil. I am not too happy with autos in general, but I'll keep running DDA. It's so delicious!

I am just about to harvest my first autos ... and they are pretty short ... but I trained them flat ... so one of them is about 24"x24" right now. I never expected that!

What I noticed the most was that when I quadlined ... it was difficult to keep the canopy even and the side branches don't grow that well ... in fact some of the side branches just don't grow at all!

So for my latest "Seedsman - Gardens of the galaxy grow" ... I am trying a few different things to see how I can get better yield from training.

I tried topping every third node ... it didn't work that well ... and I figured I just wasted veg time.

So, ... with my latest DDA (Thanos) and my latest HSO Chemdog (Terminator 2) ... I am going to top the seedling at node #3 ... prune the node #1 growth node but keep the node #1 fan leaves ... then top as much as possible to maximize the primary colas, minimize side branches and expedite training.

I am pretty sure that if I combine @Emilya 's watering technique, use mainlining and fluxing with quadlining, control environment VPD, and control the light PPD ... I should get pretty good yield from autoflower plants and from "12-12 from seed" photoperiod plants.

HSO Chemdawg #2 - T2 - Looks healthy so far - will top at node 3 - will keep node #1 fan leaves.
Will be using mainlining and fluxing with quadline approach.

Right there with you... not a huge fan of autos, but I will try them again in some future grow. I do have one DDA in late flower right now. She is tiny - my fault, the environment for her wasn't good. But her colours are pretty cool.

That is exactly what we are hoping for!!!

Hmmmm ... I wonder what would happen if we cross a DDA with a Chemdawg???!!! :surf:

Now I want to try that!!!

I'm thinking that those who can grow outdoors may be able to get two auto-flowering crops in. Start them indoors for early July and mid September finishes. That should be before the rainy season starts here in Nova Scotia.

I'm glad you brought that up ... because I missed this year's outdoor growing season ... but at least I got to admire @MrSauga 's plants!

So ... I would start them indoors in May ... and August ... I need to think that through more later today.

It depends on the maturing time of the strain, and your seasonal weather patterns. For example in my area we should be frost free from june 13 until Oct 30. Our rainy season goes from about the middle of September until the middle of December. I'd want my late harvest to be scheduled for the first of September to give me some leeway. For a 63 day auto, I'd start my seed 30 June. I'd want to put them outside the first of August at the latest, so my early plants need to be done by then. Giving myself the two week window, the scheduled early harvest date should be July 15.

This is what my season would look like:
  • 13 May plant early crop seeds indoors
  • 15 Jun move early crop plants outdoors
  • 30 Jun plant late crop indoors
  • 15 Jul harvest early crop (can go until Aug 1)
  • 1 Aug move late crop plants outdoors (sooner if early crop is done)
  • 1 Sep harvest late crop (can go until Sep 15)

It's still morning here. Update, Chem isn't looking so good. I order Chemdog Millionaire Dr Kripping Fem. From GYO seed bank. They ship from the USA.

It's funny about these BlueBerry's. They popped out a tan color. Never saw that before, I thought, I had duds. Luckly, I didn't pull them, they turn green the next day. BB is up and running.
This is the first time, I have had trouble with babies. I hope my trouble are over. Sorry about the picture, need a new camera. I can't remember, who has taken picture with an ipad, I like how those picture came out. I'm interested in looking into getting one. I'll go back and see if I can fine that post about the ipad.:surf:

I just back from doing some gardening and saw this!

Fantastic ... I've bookmarked it and will use it next year.

Thanks so much!

I lost one seedling last week ... it just turned brown and died ... then got white hairs on top.

I've never seen that before either.

Hey Bean!

Sorry to hear about your challenges germinating. A bit tough to tell with the purple lights, but the tips of your chem seedling looks burned or shriveled? My only guess would be "hot" soil, but perhaps others can see better, or have another diagnosis. I will be curious to see the millionaire cultivar of chem joining this grow.

Hope that you are having a great weekend!

HSO Chemdawg #2 - T2 - Looks healthy so far - will top at node 3 - will keep node #1 fan leaves.
Will be using mainlining and fluxing with quadline approach.

Nice healthy plants there @SQl2kGuy .
I’m not sure what you mean by mainlining and fluxing with quadline approach... those are three distinct training styles/plant structures.. :hmmmm:

To be perfectly honest, my most successful plant training as been just simple LST. No topping or early structure manipulation.. just tie down the top and pull the side branches outwards. No stalling from aggressive topping, no wasted veg time, just big plants with lots of tops.

I'm sorry to, Bard, hot soil mean to much nutes right or the soil is to rich? I do have some plants that are doing ok with the same soil. But, each bean has it own genetic. Some are more sensitive. Right? The lights are 14" above the babies. Went to raise the lights and the hook fell out the ceil. Lucky, I had a holed of the rope, it did not fall on the babies. My planets must be out of alignment. These hard time will past. The Tem 77 and Hum 33. Not bad right now. Back at ya, have a great peaceful weekend.:bong:

Yes to a lot of your points - definitely different genetics will handle environment/nutes differently. "Hot" means the soil or the nutrients are too much for the plant, at least at this stage. That can turn the tips of the leaves brown, and shrivel them up. I'm just guessing that might be the problem, but not sure.

On your temp and humidity... 77F is fine, but 33% RH is pretty low for seedlings. I try to keep things in the 60-65% range during germination and early veg, 50-55% during veg and early flower, and then 40-45% during late flower. It may be that your tender little gals are drying out from the low humidity. Do you have a humidifier? If not, you can rig up an inexpensive one (fill a small bucket with plain water, tuck one end of the towel into the bucket, and hang the other end up above. The towel will wick up the water where it can evaporate into the air. Helps if you have a fan blowing on it).

Nice save with the falling light! What kind of light is it? 14" might be a bit close for this early in veg. I usually see the reco of 18-24" until they really get going.

Feel free to pick and choose from these ideas to see if any make sense for your situation.

:)

14” from the babies? I think @The Bard is right. I think you’re probably way too close and that’s what’s frying your chemdog. Especially blurples...

One more thing folks,
And so it begins...
