Who Let The Dogs Out? Chem Comparison Grow!

Been shopping at True North. (is TN in Canada?) They have Chem OG, Chemdawg, Chemdog, and Chemdogging Auto. I think I will go with Chemdog. In the write up it said Chemdog x Green Crack 3 seeds for $45.77. Plus, three freebies.

I believe that TNSB is based in Canada, but also has shipping/distribution centres in the USA and Europe. Not sure, as I haven't ordered from them myself. They are a sponsor here on 420, and I like supporting the sponsors.

I did take a quick look, and I think you are eyeing the Chemdawg Fem from Humboldt (HSO, not CSI)?

My understanding is that HSO is a really reputable breeder, so in my opinion you have made an excellent choice! Don't tell @Pennywise though as he hates it when they spell it Chemdawg versus Chemdog. :)

My apologies for the "Mr." Glad to have you along, Miss Bean! Have you decided what medium you will be growing in? Lights, tent? Just curious. The more you share, the more lots of folks will be happy to help if you need it. If/when you are ready, you can also start a journal here on 420. It is a great way to keep notes for yourself (if your memory is anything like mine) and get others to see what you are up to.

Of course, we'd love to have you post everything here, too!

Good weekend.

What’s up everybody! Let’s get out there and get in the sun. Soak up some of that vitamin D!

As for me I’ll be banished to the kitchen all night, Saturday nights are always busy.

BEAUTIFUL day here today! Enjoy it if you got it!

Thank you Bard, I'm looking forward to the grow. It's miss Bean though. I looked in SeedsMan, the Chemdawgs were $89. for 5 fem seeds. Are fem seeds alright to grow? Do they have the same outcome as reg seeds? I shall crews 420 to see what I can fine.

I should have also mentioned that @Pennywise is a big fan of the Chem from Humboldt CSI (which is a different breeder than HSO). Hopefully Penny will chime in, but their "Chemdog '91 S1" is supposed to be a very special cultivar. $100 for 7 fem seeds, so about the same price per seed that you were considering. There is no shortage of options for seed sources! :)

Google "Humboldt csi chem" to go to their site. I'm not allowed to link a non-sponsor I don't think, but you will find it pretty easily.

It's much diluted with liquid here. We haven't seen the fireball for a couple of days now.

The opposite here in southern Ontario. Rain for the past few days, but today and tomorrow are supposed to be sunny and getting warm!

Good weekend.

Thank you Bard, I'm still shopping. I will surely check out Humboldt CSI. Bard, I use eight 4' T5's for veg, and eight 4' T5's replaced with LED. I have two Blueberry's under them, they are at 6 week into flowering. Going to be harvesting pretty soon. I also use a Philizon Newest 600 w LED full spectrum double switch veg/flowering. I know they are not the best but that's all I could afford at this time. I buy FFOF soil, but thinking of investing in Pro Mix for this grow. Any suggesting? I'll start a journal when I start growing the Chem. plus something else. Have a good weekend.

I'm not one to judge anyone's set up! There are so many passionate opinions about lights, media, etc., I feel that if it is working for someone, then great. If it isn't working for someone, then I'm happy to share what has worked for me, in my limited experience. And I definitely get operating within a budget, especially when starting out. Not sure how long you have been growing, but this is a new hobby for me - just started in February of this year.

Thank goodness there are lots of talented growers on 420, and we are very lucky that lots of them have signed up for this grow. Very helpful and generous with their advice.

I won't comment on lights, as that is an area I don't know much about. There are lots of folks who are really knowledgeable if/when you think about doing something different. But what you already have might be just fine for a long time.

For growing medium, I'll offer up two options that I like. The first is coco coir, and the other is perlite/hempy. My first grow journal here (in signature line) is based in coco, and I grew a lot of orchids in that medium in the past. I love it.

Hempy is new to me, but I have a couple of seeds just started using that approach, and so far I like it. I guess hempy is more of a technique than a medium - I am using 100% perlite for my first attempt.

There is ton of info on both coco and hempy here in different forums. If you are interested/curious, just ask, and I'll try to help either answer, or flag someone who might be able to address.

Since we haven't really started the Chem grow officially, feel free to share any photos you have of your Blueberries. I have some seeds of that cultivar tucked away for the future. I understand the taste/aroma is exactly as the name would suggest.

Good luck with your seed shopping!

Welcome to you! Glad to have you along. I am still pretty new to growing and some of the big names in genetics/cultivars. Can you relay a little more about JJ 91 Star? Just curious, and trying to get more educated. Thanks!

There are a few Chem aficionados here @ 420mag. lol

I've been growing it ever since seeds came out for sale from Humboldt. It used to be clone only like every other latest greatest. I popped 1 seed from a 10 pack from Humboldt and got a stinking Purple Cultivar that I ran for a few years. It was a stinker got me paranoid af.

By stinker - the whole neighborhood could smell it. Even with scrubbers.

OK so here's the list of what I know of the lineage of Chemdawg:

Caveat - I only know from what I've read - there's a lot of bs so you need a large sifter.
JJ is/was one of the early real growers (breeder) that was doing it professionally back in the late 90s and connected to the guys that got the original bag seed.

JJ is Top Dawg Seeds.

Here's a list - 91 Star is in there

91 Star = Star Dawg (F) x 91 Chem BX2 (M)

Top Dawg Seeds Strain Index

I got my seed of this one from a friend here on 420mag.

Thanks Bob. Yes Chem seems to have a cult-like following with some folks here! I am excited to try it (first time) to see what all the buzz is about. Appreciate the additional history that you provided - jives nicely with some background that Penny provided on another thread. I knew that I had seen "JJ" elsewhere and so that context is really helpful. Thanks again!
