Wheelo's 3rd run - Attack of the Holy Shoots

thanks tunes, progress is slow but steady over here. glad you stopped by my friend.

sammy,
well it sounds like you made up your mind, so if you want to go rotational, you've come to the right place. there are a few of us here, and none anywhere else. lol.

honestly, any indica should do just fine in the wheel if you veg for a couple/few days. most blends should do fine too. any pure sativa will be hell, unless you lst, scrog, or try a product like bushmaster or something. but in general, you don't need to do anything special to keep them short, just clone to flower as fast as possible.

this is one of the biggest benefits of the system, good light distribution, and no veg time.

WOF, Thanks for the reply on the other thread. when i have enough posts ill begin a discussion in PM, but i have no problem sharing my findings with the community as we may all benefit from what i am doing here.

Like i said in the other thread i am in the design stages of this facility. I am already a legally authorized dist. and my goal is to have complete control over the medicine i provide my patients and assure them its top quality using the best possible methods available while keeping it as eco friendly as possible. so using this type of setup will definitely reduce the amount of wasted energy used by my traditional type of ebb and flow configuration to produce indica's.

I am actually toward the middle of your first journal today...i would have been done but i have had some running around to do. I dont mind reading alot of posts as long as the people posting it know what they are talking about! I consider these journals to be the best research available on this type of horticulture in my field of study. its been a pleasure learning from you and you guys definitely should get the credit you deserve as the pioneers of rotational horticulture in cannabis.

Anyways, I am not concerned with pumping out clones, i currently run 8 moms because that supplies me with about 100 clones a piece per one full cycle to begin with. i donate about 75% back to the people and use the rest in my garden. If i need to add more moms that will not be a problem, but before i move into the new place...im still considering a run with STS to my whole garden...i would literally produce buckets of high grade genetics feminized seeds, but we can discuss this at a later time.

Im still trying to figure out what machine size would be ideal for this type of operation. i want the best quality end product so if overkill is what it takes then running a pair of 1000's in a larger machine would not be a problem. Put it to you this way...knowing what you know now....theoretically speaking if you had aprox 100k for hardware to build your dream lab in a 4500sq ft + environment....what route would you take?

Sorry man i dont mean to put you on the spot, but i wanna pick your brain!!! hahaha :rollit:

I hope that you and wheel don't mind if I add some feedback. If by 'dream lab' you mean grow room I would seriously consider an Ebb and Flow type setup. Get some 1000's on light movers. Oh what I could build with 100k.... :roorrip:

*EDIT* .... if I re-read correctly, you are already using E&F?

Yeah, 420fied, sammy already has a big E & F system going but wanted to increase the efficiency in growing his Indicas. Big ideas if well financed can be a beautiful thing. Can't wait to see how your big idea pans out as well!

Very nice bro! Love the chiller and I'm sure you will as well.

i can't wait to get it, i forgot to turn off the res pump again, after i was stirring the tank to mix in some PH down (my res keeps slowly going up, wich it didnt do all last run)

when i woke up this morning the res was 84*F. so i threw in some cold packs, set it to feed again, and left. i hope it cooled off some before it watered again.

t

wait, the 420mag king of AERO is advocating EF??? do you have an EF system 420fied?

sammy take a lesson from torco if you want big yeilds and not a extrem amount of work just thought had to add my 2cents

umm, who is torco? i can't learn something from someone i never heard of. explain? thx.

dude, i always appreciate your input. for myself or anyone else. feel free.

I'd want to see you do a 20'x4' aero scrog. the length of your basement all scrog. with light movers. drooling just thinking about it. . . . or the whole perimeter, as deep as you can reach to scrog.

my res is stable at 71 now that the weather is getting colder, i think i may have jumped the gun on the chiller. lol. it will get a lot colder yet. and my res prob will equilibrate even lower in the coming months.

I just had to top off more than i thought i would. about 3-3.5 gal RO. broght the res down from 1.95 EC -> 1.55 EC. pH'd it from 6.0 ->5.6 as per AN. this must be due to the dehumidifier. but at least my RH is down to 50% steady.

Hey guys just got back around..busy day...I keep kicking the ideas around and battling what im going to do as far as setup goes.....i am definitely going to do some rotationals. I believe in the system and with the ideal strain and conditions i think it can be a great benefit...especially with energy consumption.

I love the EF system w movers....its always been the way to go....but i think for efficiency puposes...and to lower nute waste....a superior method is out there. Outdoors is simply not an option....we have too many conissuer's out here for that!!! Anyway humbolt and mendecino county alone has that covered for the entire state of california! lol

And water chillers are the shit!!! especially if you run any aeroponics the results are outstanding. always a good tool to have just in case u miss a resi temp spike and see root rot as well this will slow the process down enough so you still have a harvest. =)

WOF sorry for jacking your journal...ill stop!!! lol

heres a little something for you to smile about...meet the sour deisel and GDP =)

sammy can you grow outdoors I posted the grow journal for you if it is a possiblity
thanks PA, i'll check it out. . . but for many of us outdoor is simple an impossibility. but i do enjoy looking at them.

i know what you mean i WISH more than anything to grow outdors well a GT3 is high on that list though.

no matter how you look at it you more then likely would have eventually buy the chiller so your covered for next summer. I still say great buy!!

agreed. you know, i'm just knocking thing after thing off of my wish list every grow. . . it's awesome, but soon i will run out of things to want. . . . yeah right. lol.

just a note, my tank is sitting at 69* right now naturally. . . i may have to hook up a heater for he winter anyways, so this has a built in heater controller, so it may come in handy for the winter as well.

its already getting into the 30's here at night. and high 40's during the day.

cool, well there are a thousand ways to skin a cat, and if you want to go rotational, I can def give you some good advice. I do think that the light advantage is HUGH in this style, and under an experience hand great things can be achieved. i'm sure we have all seen the big classic lollipop filled wheels that have been floating the net for a couple years.

i am really really diggin this LST i got going, I just don't have enough plants in there to make it time efficient. i think the right number is between 24 and 32. . . it will add a couple weeks onto a grow, but will save a ton of space/materials/etc.

I think the extra root space has been a waste so far. 2x seems efficient enough at this point. . . i don't think any of the roots have mae the jump tp an adjacent set of cubes yet. . . maybe it will pay off in flower, or if it was a waste material and time wise at least it will be a gain in knowledge. either way the last par is definite.

my original plan was to get good with this system, scale it up to 6'-8' diameter and build them my self when i buy a house. now i am leaning towards a vert aero setup. growing with no consumable medium whatsoever is very attractive to me, although i could build an aero rotational. its a long way off, i'm sure i'll change my mind many times between now and then.

ok so heres a little info. been digging through my journal to get some numbers down.

this is the 24th day of veg for the wheel.

also, for anyone who wants a quick recap of this journal so far . . .

i took clones on 10-10, 10 altogether. i took anoth 10-20 today when i cleaned up the bottom of the mutants. they're all mutants too now, but i think they should root and grow fine. now i have like 20-30 in the clone box.

i'll take some more pics soon. the wheel is getting close to ready for a second level of lst, a lot mor to do this time. i may give it a couple more days first.
