With a bag over most of the plant the pollen can't get to the other flowers. If a small plant a bread bag will do. Or make some clones off a plant you want to make seeds with and do everything with clones in a closet somewhere.
How about storing the pollen and how careful do I have to be with when and where I open up the pollen container
Males can be kept as father plants too. When I'm growing regular plants I'll take the tops off above the 4th node and root the tops. Either put the cuttings under 12/12 light to force sex or flower the donor plants to determine sex then cull the males or pick one or two with the smells and characteristics I like and flower them to get pollen. With a father plant you can take cuttings while it vegs then flower the resulting clones for pollen and keep the dad vegging.
As thorough as you have been with me. I'm still going to be coming to you for questions when I attempt this whenever I do
Everything I've been working with lately are either from fem seeds or cuttings that are female so to make seeds I have to use STS to get fem pollen from one to use on the others. I'm wanting to sprout some regs soon so will just make regular seeds with boys and girls then move on to fem seeds later if they are worth keeping. My judgement of what's worth keeping relates to it's medicinal worth to me. If it doesn't help keep my boat afloat then it's off to the next strain. I wish we would have had grey-market dispensaries up here like they had in BC. So much easier to go buy a gram each of a dozen strains then find the seeds to grow the strains you like best.
what is a grey market dispensary??
That's how I got turned on to strains with decent CBD levels and how they worked for my arthritis and depression.
My two main issues-arthritis and depression
Fixed the depression with 'shrooms but the joint pain just keeps getting worse. Might not be arthritis but MS. Waiting on a head MRI to see what's up with that.
Ironically enough, I've got some type of MS symptoms including some numbing and tingling and fog brain. They just found osteophytes on my cervical spine via Xray that could be a sign of degeneration which I have arthritis and thy were thinking osteoarthritis or degenerative osteoarthritis but with all the other symptoms could be anything from punched nerves to disc issues to MS. Hoping not thr latter. In PT now before insurance will grant the MRai
Got lots of interesting strains to work with and who knows how much time to get it done. Gotta have hobbies tho and it's been my fave for the last 20+ years.
It's going to be mine
Seeds usually don't start splitting the calyxes until they are getting close to being ripe. It's what you tend to look for when trying to figure out when they're ready. Seeing them after less than a week is odd so that's why I think a couple of the early 'nanners on the donor may have dropped a little pollen before I started picking them off a few days before I did the first deliberate pollination. At least I know it's viable pollen which is not always the case.
OK this makes sense now.
Thanks. It does look like it will make some nice babies. Sky diving and bungie jumping is scary until you do it then it gets real scary!
I wanted to go for my 40th this year and didn't but this year coming, I'm going for it! TK won't come with me so I guess it's me and a tandem jumping buddy
Dusting a branch doesn't seem to hurt yields or potency but if a lot of the flowers get hit it will impact those things. I've been pollen chucking for 20 years but it's just the last year or so that I'm trying to get into the fem seeds and working a strain/cross into something I really like and can get stable enough to count on.
Awesome info thank you so much Med!
Gotta keep things interesting!
Absolutely we do!
DAY 15 ABOVE GROUND
All very much liked their first true feed and watering.
Don't mind my dirty monitor-probably the only dirty thing I have in my whole house...I'll get to that today.
Little hot in there this morning. Bringing that temp down to
79/80 right now with the AC.
This unit seems to hold at
5 degrees warmer with lights on than the rest of the room. Comparatively, the
FC4800 when running at 100%, rises temps about
7 degrees from that of the grow room.
PPFD now at
350. The
@Mars Hydro SP3000 is set at
26in above the canopy @ around
80% on the
dimmer.
1 more caterpillar egg to hatch then its my last 3 butterflies to come!
Happy growing friends, however and whatever you grow!
The 3 Stooges wish you a great weekend!
