Weffalo's West Coast O.G. First Time Grow: Indoor, Soil, SIP, Auto

The res is full but I only added water to begin with, nutrients/calmag were added like 2 days ago now though, the water levels haven't dropped but I'm guessing/hoping that they are getting the nutrition they need, hopefully they get a deeper green in the next few days... I'll try snap a picture when the lights aren't on for more accurate viewing.

If you started out with just water in the reservoir and then added nutes, chances are it's pretty diluted down there. Maybe take your nute water, dilute it by say half, and foliar your plants with it. If you don't see any adverse affects you can increase the strength of the foliar and get the nutrition to them that way. It'll probably take your plants a couple of weeks to use up the reservoir and you can't wait that long to get them the feed they need.

Yeah I only added water as I thought that would get wicked up, but as my soil was too moist that didn't happen. When I added nutes I mixed them for the res size in 1.5l of water and then added .5l to each bucket... not ideal but it should be roughly correct.

I'll give the foilar spray thing a try thanks mate, I am currently spraying with just bio protect so I'll mix a diluted solution as you suggest and give them some emergency spraying.

Given foliar spray last night, got some pics without LEDs on (still flash but think it's probably a bit closer colour accuracy)

They look the peak of good health. The stem I see look nice and sturdy and your nodal spacing looks good and proportional. Going great guns.

Awesome thanks Carmen :D Happy to hear that, I'm keen to start training but patience is a virtue and I still wanna see more growth before messing with them.

Yep, they're a happy group!
Great stuff, thanks Stone <3

I'm thinking about training and I don't think they are far off being ready, from what I've read I want to do it before day 30 to allow for proper growth, so I think in the next few days I might go for it...

I realise this is a risk but I figure it's one worth taking and no matter what it's a good learning experience.

I was going to do a few diff training methods but I'm just gonna go with quadlining, I've seen loads of people have success with autos doing it so there's evidence to support it works well for autos. Just tipping the 4th node was an option too but I don't want to create a super uneven canopy and cause my DLI to be incorrect for certain plants so I think I'm gonna go with all 3 being quadlined.

Day 26 now, I figure if I see further evidence of growth in the next 2 days I will prune nodes 1/2 and then on day 29/30 I will top the plants assuming there has been no issues.

Just wondering if it's normal to be getting white hairs this early? Took a pic after I sprayed them it's not super clear but hopefully you can make out what I mean:

Anytime after 3 weeks or so, yes. Some autos veg for longer than others.
Thanks Carmen :)) Does that mean it's now in the preflower week or will it still continue to veg for 2ish weeks?

Thanks Azi - Do you think I'll still be good to attempt training on these?

Just a bit worried if already showing signs of flower, like is it okay to top above the 4th if I might be cutting off pistils?

You'd just be pinching off the very top, supple growth so won't be losing much, but I don't grow autos so do really know the rules for how late you can top and train there. It's probably once they start flowering but that's the big question for yours, whether they are actually flowering or just getting ready.

I'd probably top it just to see what happens but hopefully some auto growers will chime in with a better answer.

Well the advice of Roy was just to tip it so that may be the best plan for the least stress, then with my next run with photos I can attempt quadlining.

If it goes wrong it goes wrong, been a good learning experience already so it's whatever :)

I've read up on the stigma/pistils and according to the Fast Buds website they can appear anytime between week 3 and 5, so nothing super unusual and ultimately I don't think it guarantees less veg time so we'll just have to see.

Thanks @Azimuth !

Okay after reading up further I am going to skip any form of HST on this one, from what I've read it seems after hairs start to appear it's definitely too late for topping.

I'll either let them grow free or read up on some LST and apply that, I think I can still get away with that at this juncture.

No big deal and lesson learned on how fast these things happen (especially with autos) which let's me be better prepared next time.

Sorry I am editing this... the point I was trying to make, was moot.

So sorry, my previous post was made before I read any further. I thought it had reached the end of that conversation. My bad!

In my limited experience with super light LST (probably less of the light 😅) and even a touch of super cropping (broke half a branch - don’t panic rubber tape is your friend) the best thing you can do is just look at the plant a long time through 360 degrees and have a think about where you want them to go. A trim first until I thought it was way too many leaves and mini growths ending up the floor by my partner who is more experienced with growing really seemed to reap rewards.

This is the advice of a first timer based on a two plant grow. Sure I did much wrong but they are forgiving. We used soft rubber coated electrical cable to train the colas out and seems to be working. They look like they’ll gonna produce some really good separate colas each though. Maybe 5-6 each.

Apologies if I’m mixing up technique names to more experienced among us.

By which I mean everyone!
