I think I’m going to try running a couple plants just in rabbit manure. I know that my pepper and tomato plants thrive on it through bloom/fruiting. The pepper plants are very vibrant green but definitely not to the point where they look unhealthy. Maybe almost? I mean they are so incredibly vibrant and shiny looking they almost look too healthy. But that’s the only issue I see.
I’ve never found an in depth analysis of the bunny manure though some sites say it has all the micronutrients in it.
One site that has a long list of animal
manure NPK has rabbit manure at
N- 1.22
Nh4- .12
P- .87
K- .57
Which would make it a little N rich.

Another site lists the NPK as 1.10- 1.50- .47
Not so sure I trust those last numbers though since I generally see the nitrogen posted as being higher than the phosphorus and potassium levels. The most frequently cited numbers are around the 2.4 - 1.4. -.6 levels I mentioned before.

Whatever... worth a try.

Newbie soil question- what else should I toss in there. I’ve got some earth worm castings from my worm bin.

Lime/calcium is one big question mark for me. I’ve got dolomite lime, though the Sunshine Mix I use as a base does have lime in it already. I just want to make the most basic mix possible and amend as needed. I’ve got a lot of random bottles, etc. including calmag of course.

But it’s stupid that I’m still having plant issues after all these years. I don’t ever feel the need to thump my chest about my (not so) great growing skills and don’t mind being a newbie, but even being a newbie gets old after a while. I feel like I should have the feeding issues solved long ago. If I don’t figure something else out I may just bite the bullet and order some of doc buds stuff. That would get me some different insight.

My usual strategy in the greenhouse potted plants is to top dress the bunny pellets every few weeks which works quite well. The plants burn through it easily and fairly quickly.
Obviously I can also top dress or feed other things as needed. I even have a little bat guano left in a bag laying around somewhere. Or I can rip my cabin roof apart....

Maybe @bobrown14 ?

EWC...gypsum...blood meal...bone meal...ground malted barley...alphalpha meal... fish bone meal...mykos...rock minerals...kelp meal... are all things that can be considered when building or maintaining DIY soil...I incorporate all of those at some point, as well as humic acid...molasses and probably a couple of other things I can't recall offhand...Bob uses neem cake meal and karanga meal, but hard as hell to sources here in Canada...cheerz... :high-five:...h00k...:hookah:
oh yeah...bat guano for sure in veg...lots of nitrogen...

Thanks Dr Hook. I’m hoping to cheat and stay lazy, use the bunny turds in sunshine mix as a base, adding nutrients bottles or otherwise as needed, and avoid buying more stuff or making a real soil mix with all the bells and whistles.

I feel like I’ve got to find a baseline that makes my plants happy. Then I can figure out where to tweak things from there. Using my bottled nutrient routine has been mostly hit and miss, depending on the strain.
By late flowering they’re usually looking ok- once I’ve burned all the leaves off and only have bud left...

...Yeah. I got kinda sick of all the hype around the latest best new product, all of them outrageously priced in my opinion, so I thought I'd try my hand at organic...that was a couple/few years ago, and I'm happy with the results...I do have 4 girlz running in Doc's "kit", to satisfy my curiosity...it's relatively cheap, and pretty simple, all things considered...the kicker is the shipping cost to Canada tho'!!... :eek:o_O...when your bottled nutes start to deplete, definitely look at a more organic approach...once you have a mix dialed in, it's pretty much just water with a few teas/foliars...so easy, even a mountain man can do it...;)...cheerz...:high-five:...h00k...:hookah:...

...my pride and joy at the moment A5 X Killer from Ace in a 5 gallon ...

...I just upped her to a 15 and gave her some more room...

Looking at the contents of the kit, I see the EWC and promix account for organic part of the system, but the drenches appear to be made from synthetic nutes, like calcium nitrate, magnesium nitrate or monopotassium phosphate. Sadly for you guys up north, these complexes are hard, if not impossible to find. I spent a good hour this morning searching DuckDuckGo to see who up there sells Calcium Nitrate and found none.

Weasel, I think the rabbit poo will be a good add, even with the high N. The lime might be a good add too to tweak your PH. I used a lot of lime by mistake, and a little cal carbonate I have. I think my 0-3-0 RP is going to be a dud too, but I can over fert P if I need to. That's how Woody does it though. A little of this, a little that and nutes as needed.

As to still being a newb. We all are. I think that's a stage of wisdom every man and woman obtains. It's like getting older reveals how much I don't yet know. Even as a grower, our skills sharpen over the years, but the harvest weight remains in fluctuation like WTF?

OK cool, well I’m excited to try it a couple mixes with rabbit poo and maybe some EWC. I’m so busy and stretched so thin in all different directions that I just don’t have time to do any in-depth studies on anything. Or maybe I’m just not that studious. I just want something that is simple and works

Calcium Nitrate

Would this work? Calcium Nitrate - YaraLiva | Yara Canada

That's the stuff, but the link looks more like an informational type page than a dealer. I don't see the price anywhere, or quantity selection. But if that's somewhere else, bookmark the site. Also see if they have other complexes. Ammonium Phosphate, Magnesium Nitrate, Potassium Phosphate, I think Potassium Nitrate is illegal up there for some reason, but if you can get any or all of them complexes, keep those links handy in case it's ever your ability to get this stuff. If you use GH Micro, or another micro bottle, you can control your macros with the complexed salts.

I think that's a friggin awesome idea. It's around. You're using it already in a successful routine. Cut and paste those tom and pepper grows.

Newbie soil question-

Hmmmm.... lemme check somethin quick....

.... a new soil grower.... I might suspect that now I've heard everything.... but I've been around a while and experience speaks otherwise. Fun to hear you utter the words tho.

Hey now.... I think that's called 'wisdom'.

I think Potassium Nitrate is illegal up there for some reason,

I had to look it up to be sure, but yep, it's one of the components of gunpowder. :cheesygrinsmiley:

So yeah, they try to keep track of where that particular mineral formula gets shipped. A lot of fertilizers will trip explosives detectors. :laughtwo: You have to go through all sorts of hoops to be certified to ship it around.

Is gunpowder illegal up there, or just a shit load of it?

That's actually a good question. :hmmmm: I would think that there would be a lot of reloaders in that part of the world. Shells are expensive.

No you can definitely buy powder. Big brother is keeping an eye on the sales though- you have to give them your firearms license #.

Edit- the limit is -you can store 10kg of powder in the house or 75kg if it’s in a separate building.

I don’t know... Lately I’ve been getting the suspicion that the longer I grow the worse I get at it. That can’t be right can it? Must be just a little downturn.
Luckily the plants can take a lot of abuse and still have pretty flowers at the end.
I was looking into organic soil a lot more in the past but I kept running into a wall of having to source weird expensive ingredients- that I couldn’t find.... Paying $ to get obscure ingredients shipped from thousands of miles away- doesn’t feel very organic. Instead of making things simpler it just got more complicated and difficult.
Seems like not much has changed in that area. Next I’m gonna be taking the powder out of my rifle shells for fertilizer...the bear’s going to eat me after I run out of ammo... maybe the answer was bunny crap all along.

Is 85kg enough powder for a days shoot'en?
