Re: Vick074-OG Kush last run in CocoSoil-CO2-1KHPS-5X5tent-with Porta Scrogs!? porta

Wow!!!!!!:yikes: Vick now that's a full tent :bravo:

Thanks Curso,

I can barely keep up with the defoiliating!
The little anti moisture thingies are working ok, keeping RH between 45 and 55%. But since it's so moist outside our house, I got worried that PM would keep coming back..
So I just picked up a cheap used 15 pint dehumidifier for 20 bucks, so I might be throwing that in the tent during lights off to keep it as dry as possible.
But where the hell am I going to put it!!?

wiw?

Awesome grow Vick. I love the porta scrog! Subbed to see how you manage these things. It looks a little crowded in there. :bravo:

But I don't know all that much about patenting and how that stuff works.
From what I've heard of people trying to patent their ideas, it can be really expensive.
I'd need an investor and or partner(s)?
Anyone have the know how to make something like this happen?

It doesn't have to be expensive. You should start by doing some patent searches. The patent office's search engine is pretty good and Google has another that lets you search differently. Both are useful. Your goal is to make sure your idea is "novel". If you're convinced it meets the criteria of being "novel", you can start your application.

There are 2 kinds of patents, a 'real' patent (the kind most of us think of) and a provisional patent. A provisional patent differs from the regular patent in a couple ways. It is only good for one year, but it's a much less complex and expensive process to obtain. Provisional patents are useful when you're developing a product and want to either test the market, or perhaps you don't have the capital to invest in a 'real' patent, so you can get a provisional patent, market your product, and use the proceeds from the initial sales to fund the 'real' patent application. That's the theory at least.

BTW, the expense is usually related to lawyer fees. You may be able to do it all yourself if you're good at interpreting legalese. I don't know if I would risk writing the application entirely on my own. You might still want to consult a patent expert along the way. Think of them like an editor for a book or something. They will be able to provide feedback about how to write your patent so others are less likely to be able to infringe.

Also keep in mind that a patent only lets you sue someone if they try to market a product using your idea. If a really large corporation decides to use your idea, they may have more legal resources than you can fight. Your best bet might be to get the provisional protection, and then try to license your idea to someone like SunLeaves or C.A.P.

I'm not an expert, but I know a couple engineers that are on several patents and I have a patent application I've been working on for a couple years now (my idea has little risk of anyone stealing it).

Good luck! I love the idea of individual scrogs for each plant. I'm using an Ebb & Gro, so after seeing your idea I'm trying to think of a way to do this in my setup. :cheesygrinsmiley:

In the UK we call them "Chinese restaurant spinny things"

Funny :laughtwo:

That's the one! Although you've mixed shit up a bit. I've never seen an Indian restaurant spinny thing before. I thought it was unique to China. That's globalisation for you

Funnier

Glad you could drop in..
Hey, I forgot to mention in my PM.
My old lady and I are going to be making the switch from ciggy butts to e-cigs.
It's so weird because we did all this research on them, I heard so much on here about them, then I saw your journal blow up with TONS of good information about them. So thanks heaps for that brother. You helped to fill in a few gaps we had while making the decision. We're going with the couples package, not sure what brand yet. But there are so many crappy ones out there, if we're going to be spending 100.00 or more we want to make sure we go with a good brand, not some cheapy Taiwan knock off shit.
We've been vaping weed for the past 6 months or so since buying an Arizer solo. portable. The thing rules, and we use it every day! It only makes sense that we be doing that with our nicotine too..
Sounds like it's really working for you!

I thought my 15 year hiatus was a long one!

Wow thanks hiker!!
That was a lot of info that I really didn't know about..

I'm going to have to do some thinking about first weather its actually worth it to go through with.
I like the sounds of the provisional patent, and would appeal much more to selling the idea to a major company that would have thew capital to do it right.
I'd be a happy with a little cheque!
As I think this is an idea that would work well with other growing sytems, ie GH, Sunleaves, or Cap like you mentioned.

I really appreciate your insight hiker!
Now I just have to get off my ass and talk to some people that can help make it happen.
I'm going to look around a bit on that patent search engine website a bit later tonight when I get home!

You're very welcome. I had to learn a lot back in 2011 when I started working on my patent. I can't really afford to start production of my invention, so I've held off submitting my application. Since my idea has almost no chance of anyone else coming up with it (it's way outside the box of normal thinking in the industry it relates to), I'm not in a real hurry. In fact, this grow room is intended to help generate the capital I need to start that business. :dreamy:

One last thing I want to say on the subject of patents. There are many people, and organizations, that are solely devoted to generating patents. They have no interest in actually marketing the ideas, they are just speculating mostly. Kind of like domain name prospectors back in the 90s. Your idea may or may not spark some interest from them. You have to be careful they don't try to patent it out from under you. Luckily you will have this thread as documentation that you had the original idea, but if you think you want to pursue the patent, you should probably get started sooner than later. You also don't have to sell to one of the big players. You could always get some overseas manufacturer to make them for you. Of course, if the big guys think your idea has a market, and you won't license to them, they may just try to find a way around your patent.

Good luck. Patent law is a strange animal. When I was doing my research, I got pretty discouraged for awhile. There is a lot of shitty/underhanded stuff that happens to inventors. Those big corporations are evil I tell you!

OK sorry. That's the last I'll talk about patents unless you ask more questions.

That being said, can I order 24 of your porta scrogs to fit my Ebb & Gro buckets please? :)

Did you use GLR for veg? Five days to flower day is awesome, so I presumed you did.
