Venturi’s Northern Lights Auto DWC 2022 Remix

About to have a full tent problem like @PlanetJ. Idk where we were at date wise but I feel like we’re a week or 2 apart. I expect to see some budding soon.

I used a plant yo yo to pull down 3’s(far left) main shoot. 12 hours later and I can see some of the effects. Some of the other shoots are popping up. Thus my first training has begun. Originally I had planned for 2 babies but opted for 3 to fill in the full 2x4 space. Still happy with my choice but this is where the effects will come in. I have a drill operated water pump thing from I don’t know how many decades ago. I just need to dissect a garden hose for its 2 fittings. I don’t like the idea of not cleaning the buckets weekly but sooner than later they will be too much to move albeit. Not a lot I can think of for training there’s not many areas I foresee that will be open but if I don’t have to remove the plants again I can get down to some real attachments, not just anchoring to the bucket lids themselves. I’d like a metal grate refrigerator type shelf, hang that vertically against the wall with bungee cords and the corners length wise. That will give me a good anchoring position possibly but definitely something I can hang cords and such from. I need to get on it this weekend because these babies are not waiting around for me.

Little sneak peek action. So, if I ended up only doing 1/3 of the nutes suggested(accidentally) by the one and only very helpful @FelipeBlu Ive began upping them in ppm. Currently I have the ph at around 6 trying for the higher ph nutes. One bucket had a low ph of 4.5ish and I don’t want a lockout. Any water that gets added is also on the spicier side of ppm around 1000 or so. Seeing some movement in number one. 3 being the biggest in the far corner of this picture. 2 and 1 need to catch up. 2 was placed dead center less than a week ago but with the added attention being in the middle catching more lumens(definitely not the right word)
I have trimmed a few leaves, contrary to popular opinion (i think) of not wanting to clip autos. The leaves I cut were mainly either withered or damaged from past incidents. I do watch the bottom leaves as I gather they are quick to show the signs of tox or deficiencies.

Just a little maintenance so far today. Changed position of my upper mini fan. I need to add a lower fan asap to get that low air moving. From left to right: tres dos uno. A countdown so it seems.
Hoping uno and dos start to catch up because 3, the youngest and one that has had some problems is outpacing the group. I think I had her dead center too long gotta switch them up. Res change coming in a few days

You don't have to worry too much on stunting an auto with defoliation, especially at this stage of the grow.
Feel free to snip some of the bigger fan leaves up top (only do one side per node, where needed), that will help open her up.
Best description I've seen on here for defoliation: "you want to look through the bottom and see the far wall. And you want to look down, and see nothing but leaves/foliage. "

At the current stage your at, I leave with a small handful of leaves per plant, almost every second day, until flower is really on. Now is the time to do it. Just don’t go too far :), you're doing fantastic.

Appreciate it! It feels like smooth sailing now, until I have to revisit the nute chalk board for flower nutes, whenever that should arrive. Other than that, sometime I will be getting the chance to add liquid kool bloom. Can’t wait for that stage! The rh has been a little troublesome to deal with, outside rh has been high. May need a bigger dehumidifier

I’ll snap a pic after work but should I consider myself in flower now? Not sure what I should change the nutes to in that event. I’d like to have a flower day 1 or something so I know when I should clip at week 3, and add the liquid kool bloom (week2?)

I ordered another fan for the bottom area. Babies are drinking very well. 1.5-3L a day it seems.

Uno is beginning her stretch I believe. Exciting stuff!

Judging by these pics I’d say I’m a few days into flower? I didn’t really keep watch for pistols or anything. Partly because I’ve been busy and I trust gc that I wouldn’t get a male. What do you guys think? Can I call this flower day___ 4? Just trying to get a timeline established. It’s spring, the weather will begin to warm and I want to get these babies finished sooner rather than later. Should I change to a flower nute schedule next week?

I believe I’m at day 51

Here’s a great journal that has destroyed the myth that massive P and K are needed during flowering. Just the first couple of pages will blow your mind.
Starting the reading now! Very interesting so far. Also reading about northern lights they seem to enjoy a lot of N so that should support this as well.

Bloom Booster - Fertilizer Nonsense #5 - Garden Myths

Like this article for instance, like their grow. There’s good info but both instances are soil. How if any would that change to dwc, where nutrients are more readily available I wonder. Onward goes the reading but my interest has been piqued. Not enough to not use the kook bloom, but piqued none the less. :)

“Northern Lights is typical of most marijuana plants in that it needs high levels of nitrogen (N) during the vegetative stage. It also requires high amounts of phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) during the flowering stage. Unlike most weed strains, however, NL can take higher levels of N throughout its growing cycle because it is less likely to feel nitrogen burn.” I’m not against going high with nitrogen due to this verbiage.

Since Bot CM+ is only 3.2% Ca compared to 5% for GH, it requires more:
9ml/gal Botanicare CalMag +
2ml Micro
12ml Grow
5ml Bloom

Provides:
137 ppm N
42 ppm P
206 ppm K
102 ppm Ca
64 ppm Mg

Pretty good actually :morenutes:
Alrighty were prepping for res day. 2ish weeks ago I game them this, only I didn’t multiply per gallon only once. All of last week while topping off I topped off with double this, so 18ml cal mag 4ml micro 12ml grow and 10 ml of bloom.

Well as you can imagine it did up the ppm in the buckets but not a lot (averages and all) so basically it was 600 ppm, and I was adding 1000 ppm

Anywho, today I plan to give them the full broadside compliment.

So we’re looking at accounting for 3 gallons so a 3x multiplier, or the full compliment as I call it being a sailor.
(ML in total added to 3 gallons of ro water per bucket)
27 calmag
6 micro
36 grow
15 bloom

I’m guessing to be around 1200-1500 ppm but I’ll have the first batch ready this evening.

As for a timeline, I’m going to go through my Journal and try to establish the day I started flower. I’ll also be researching about the liquid kool bloom while simultaneously reading why bloom nutes are fictional. Haha I like the duality. Maybe I’ll do one without bloom nutes for “science”
At any rate I’m almost positive it would be premature now, and as I’ve already experienced that, I can wait for a definite addition at the correct or later date.

Really hoping 2 and 1 begin to catch up on that stretch. They’re looking pretty squat next to number 3 lurching above threateningly watching and waiting to encroach upon the others P2000 beams of love

Tent is filling in nicely. Everyone has full compliment of nutes. Things are moving along nicely. I’m going to have to raise the light to the roof. #3 is trying its hardest to reach it. I keep tying her down but keeps popping up. 2 and 3 are still stretching a little at a time and hopefully will fill out.

Just raised the light to the roof. Going to see how the temp changes. I’ve got a temp meter up top and on one bucket lid. I’m interested to see if the light being close to the roof changes the temp because it’s more cubbies up against the roof, but it’s higher than the exhaust.

I took a quick peek before work and one is really starting to stretch! I’m not sure what I can do about training certain directions as everything seems to be filling up. I’m super happy about raising the light. I’m sure that’s what the girls needed in order to take off. 3 the tallest is about 18 inches away now. The rest are closer to 28 inches but I’m sure they’ll catch up quick.

I got the new fan in. I’m not sure exactly where or how to position it on the bottom to keep the airflow moving so it’s just kinda placed there. The clip didn’t act like it wanted to stay on the tent pole.

During one of the hotter hours of 75 degrees I checked the temp and top was 78 and on the net pot lid it was 74. Happy about that too.

I’m kinda amazed at how dark it is on the ground floor at this point. Lots of filling in in the last week. As you can see 1, far right is starting to take off. Really got some inches to grow to catch up to that 18 inch away from light mark. You must be this tall to catch the good rays. I don’t imagine I’ll be moving the light again this grow. 3, the biggest is already about as close as it needs to be, wondering how much more she’ll grow. I believe I read this strain usually reaches 3 feet but recently another source said 4. I’m going to get the old measuring tape out and see where I stand, and where I may stand in a few weeks. There’s no room to up the height of light or lower the buckets so it’s going to be what it is.

This week I would like to be the first week I don’t take out the plants at res change. At least I don’t want to move 3 being so big but now that I have the light up I likely have enough room to move it…
After work I plan to rotate the net pots about 180, just to make sure everyone is getting their own chance. I may start tying 3 down more but I’m missing some sort of shelf thing to tie onto. I want something like a refrigerator shelf, bungie it against the wall vertically so it’s not taking any room and I’m able to tie plant yo-yos to. If you’re starting out and don’t have yo-yos grab them. They’re cheap.

I’ve don’t a bit of trimming here and there every few days, a few of the leaves on the middle plant 2 were pretty weak and yellowing. I’m not positive it’s fully the higher ppms but also the new lower fan likely wind burned them a little. Some were easy to just pull off. I’m going to keep an eye on them as I’ve moved the fan but a few yellow leaves, in the pitch dark almost of the bottom aren’t super concerning to me as the rest seem to be doing well. 1 far right is really praying and shooting off. Pretty exciting to watch on a day by basis.

Day 60: res change. Pretty much going with what I’ve been putting in there but I was thinking of adding a low dose of liquid kool bloom. I believe it calls for 2.5ml per gallon. I was planning on adding 1 ml, or .33ml per gallon. I had added a little last week to a single gal. I’m not sure it had effect, but I do seem to detect a stronger smell. While the product does claim to have such benefit on the ladies, it may just be the smell of the actual nute itself which is quite strong. When you go to a garden section, this is the smell that overpowers the rest. I’m not really upping any of the other nutes.

I got one res change done last night on 3 the biggest. She was such a pain to get out of the tent and bucket and in my rush I had forgotten to take down her binds, the plant yoyos. Well not too much harm was done I believe. I’ll get some pics out this evening but figured id drop what’s on my mind.

Humidity has been good, the girls are drinking a ton. I’m going to start prepping their weekly topping solution in a larger quantity as was mentioned. I’ve been mixing a new batch it seems every other day to top them up.
Going to get my measuring tape out later, I’m interested to see the height of 3. She’s large and in charge. Really trying to overpower her sisters area. I think those small tomato cages would have worked quite well had I used them. I don’t regret adding a 3rd lady at this point still. All for now!

Happy Friday!
