Re: Vapedogg223's Got a Brand New Bag! All Organic, High Brix, Nirvana Ice, 49 Plant

thanks for the info, thinking about it now, i think it was powder i was using and not gel, i remember dipping the cuttings into the powder and into pots, im pretty sure it was powder, im going back 9 years so not 100%sure, but im leaning towards it been powder.

anyway thought id share this, i messed up my fim attempt and it grew back a small amount of growth but at the side of the stem, this stunted my plants growth, anyway i topped it instead and cut off about an inch of growth with tiny leaves on it, all i then done was push it into the soil next to the mother plant, i wasnt even inteded on growing it as i thought it was to small and i didnt even have rooting gel, anyway today i took my plant out veg room to pull some leaves out the way and tie branches back and i noticed this little thing was still alive, i gently moved it and saw it had roots growing out the bottom so i left it where it was, so now i have got a small tiny cutting of my fem plant, couldnt believe it, not sure if it will survive or not but so far so good,

That's cool bro! I remember another member that had chopped his girls and thrown the root balls in the garbage (or somewhere...I can't quite remember) and a few days later was walking by and noticed one of the root ball/stumps had shot out tiny branches and was growing again. I think he brought it back in and vegged it out. These truly amazing plants!

Wow Vape, my I was at war with my old phone and internet provider and missed all this!?! Looking so good, as I have been implicating Organic/High Brix methods to my way of growing and learning direction. And I love what you are doing and how you are set up. But keep up the good work and I will be watching eagerly. :bravo: & :Namaste:

:thanks: bro! I'm really liking what I'm seeing from these plants so far!

Re: Vapedogg223's Got a Brand New Bag! All Organic, High Brix, Nirvana Ice, 49 Plant

Looking very lush there Vape! Yes, the bloom has begun! Get ready for some serious bud poRn. How long have you been using GLR?

For about 24 hours...I just made the switch! :)

I was sold, and wanted to give it a go a while back, but since I was using the MH I decided to wait until I had the new T5 HO fixture.

I'm pretty excited to see how my moms like it!

:Namaste:

Re: Vapedogg223's Got a Brand New Bag! All Organic, High Brix, Nirvana Ice, 49 Plant

Looking great!:high-five:

If that was a crap picture.......can't wait to see the good ones. :bravo:

:thanks:

 Yeah...I guess it's clear enough, it's just that the lighting sucked, and it's kind of grainy. :)

The problem is that I used to be a pretty serious amateur photographer back in the film and darkroom days, but I sold all my equipment once I saw that digital photography was going to be the future. I didn't get a digital at the time, because I wanted to let the technology improve.

That was a long time ago, and I've been using point & shoots ever since. I've got to tell you though, they frustrate the hell out of me...I know what I want to do, and I just can't get the cameras to do it, and I'm always having focusing and exposure issues. I take about 150 pics to get 10 that I'll post. I really need to get an SLR with a macro lens and a ring light, and then I can have some fun!

:Namaste:

Re: Vapedogg223's Got a Brand New Bag! All Organic, High Brix, Nirvana Ice, 49 Plant

Hey there Vape! Everything is sure looking high brix around here :) Nice job :thumb: Quick question. If you were to amend the soil of an existing veg plant with the powerders how would you go about it. I ask because my 8 plants are in veg, but getting close to flower time. I don't want to transplant them but I will if I have to. I just want to amend the medium with the 6/5/3 powerders if that is possible. :thanks:

:peace:

:thanks: brother!

I think I would break up as much of the soil on the top as I could without damaging any roots. Then I would top dress with some 6/5/3 powders, and water it in with some tea. I might also add a bit more of the powders to the diluted tea soil drenches going forward.

One thing though...I had problems with my moms because I had a lot of dolomitic lime in my old mix trying to head off Cal/Mag deficiencies I was always dealing with. The problem was that all that dolomite threw off my ratios, and reaped havoc. Eventually the microbes won out and they're doing okay now. The microbial activity is the key, the minerals are there to feed them.

You might also want to check with DocBud. I think he's trying out one of the kits where you don't amend with the powders at all, instead they are added to the teas and/or feedings...He was just saying that the plants that had the soil amended with the 6/5/3 powders seemed to respond faster, but since you already have established plants, that might be the ticket, and he could better recommend how much to add...but basically, anyway you can get the proper minerals in the proper ratios into the soil you'll do okay, the amount of the powders is not as important as the overall ratios!

One thing to watch for that I thought was cool...when you do switch over, any fungus gnats (ones you didn't even know you had) will make a mass exodus, and go die somewhere... :)

Re: Vapedogg223's Got a Brand New Bag! All Organic, High Brix, Nirvana Ice, 49 Plant

I didn’t finish up last night…err…I guess I mean this morning, until after about 3:30 AM. But now I’ve had a chance to go through my photos, and collect my thoughts!

Before I post some pics of the girls, I wanted to talk about the Nature’s Own Microbe Tea Soil Life and Activator, and the Yucca Schidigera Extract. To sum it up I was very impressed. These are both excellent products, and unless my plants fall over dead in the next couple of days, I won’t be going without them in the future!

For brewing tea I use a 5 gallon DIY AACT brewer that consists of a bucket, some 1/2 PVC pipe and fittings, some air hose and an air pump. My brewer is a copy of the one posted here: Tea brewing, by madodah, but I don’t use a heater.

It’s really a scaled down version of the 25 gallon brewer that Oregon State University provided plans for.

This is what mine looks like.
CIMG3440.jpg

CIMG3441.jpg

Monday night I started brewing 2 gallons of tea. The first thing I do is add the hottest tap water I can get out of the faucet, and run the air pump with the plain hot water until it cools down to 70-80º F, or until I remember I’m supposed to be brewing tea, an hour or so later. :)
CIMG3442.jpg

The Microbe Tea Soil Life and Activator is a powder that you add 1/4 cup of to each gallon of water.
CIMG34391.jpg

After I added 1/2 cup to the 2 gallons of now luke warm water, I stirred it up really well, and ended up with this.
CIMG34441.jpg

I brew in my basement, and although it’s heated, I stick a square of fiberglass insulation under the bucket just so it’s not sitting directly on the cold concrete/tile floor.

The instructions say to brew for 24 hours…when I got home last night it had been about 22 1/2 hours and this is what I had on my hands.
CIMG34451.jpg

It was a bit of a mess, but that is what we are after! It really does make regular EWC tea look rather sad in comparison! I didn't wait until the 24 hours was up...instead, I used it at this point.

I use paint strainers to filter the concentrated tea. They are about the best for this purpose IMHO. I’ve seen people use pantyhose, etc as a teabag/filter, but beneficial fungi can also be filtered out with some of these materials. The fine mesh of a paint strainer is perfect for this.
CIMG3446.jpg

After it’s filtered (on the left) it needs to be diluted 1:9 with water…that’s 1/2 gallon added to 4 1/2 gallons of water (on the right). At this point the ppm of chlorine in tap water isn’t really high enough to harm that many of the beneficials in our concentrate, but I let the water sit 24 hours just the same.
CIMG3447.jpg

CIMG3448.jpg

Now we need to add the Yucca extract. According to the bottle, there’s two ways you can go…1/4 cup per 5 gallons of diluted tea, or 1/8 cup per quart of concentrated tea. I wasn’t sure if I was going to use all the tea, so I went with 1/4 cup per 5 gallons of diluted tea so I wouldn’t waste any Yucca.
CIMG3449.jpg

CIMG3450.jpg

CIMG34511.jpg

Yucca is a foaming agent, so once you add it and stir it in things will start to get a bit foamy. The pic above was taken before I mixed it up well. I decided to put the camera down at this point since it’s not water proof! The diluted tea is then used as a soil drench and a foliar spray.

A couple things I noticed with the Yucca…first the soil seemed to absorb the tea more readily and second, the natural surfactant properties worked really well to coat the leaves for the foliar spray. Like I said…I won’t go back to not using these products after seeing how they work!

Some pics of the girls to follow! :thumb:

Re: Vapedogg223's Got a Brand New Bag! All Organic, High Brix, Nirvana Ice, 49 Plant

And here's a few pics of the girls I took just before the tea application for your viewing pleasure!
CIMG3494.jpg

CIMG3495.jpg

CIMG34961.jpg

And a couple pics of some plants on the edge of the tray.
CIMG34971.jpg

CIMG3498.jpg

And lastly, a random plant I pulled off the edge of the SOG to get an idea of what each plant looks like.
CIMG34991.jpg

I think these are the healthiest plants I've grown to date! They are an amazing shade of green that just doesn't come through in the pictures, and nearly every leaf is perfect.

Thye are also far more phototropic than any plants that I've grown before. If I move the tray out from under the light within just 2-3 minutes the plants are all twisting around pointing their leaves toward the light. I know most plants display positive phototropism, but I've never seen them move so quickly...you can literally almost see them move!

Oh well, I guess that's it for right now! I hope you enjoyed!

I know, I love being able to follow along with your journal. As I just mineralized my soil not too long ago and have beeb brewing teas packed with ewc, beneficial bacteria, humic acid, humus, seaweed, glacial rock dust, yucca extract, organic brown sugar and different guanos when needed and used it on half of my plants since my last transplant. I am also, on half my plants, using organic nutes and some different teas/ foliar sprays. But I am liking High Brix the more I read. As this is my first ever grow, I am still learning everyday. And trying some different things. I have concentrated my efforts to High Brix and Organics. I did not purchase the kit, although I know exactly which one is the so far proven best. And this only becaause my fiance was a sweetheart and went out and bought me the Extreme Gardening Flo N Brew and most all the things I had on my list that I was going to get for myself, but didnt get too. So they will be happily used, but I am definitely going to get the kit for my next run. But sorry to ramble, I just also picked up my first dabber, so gone with the wind here. But keep up the green work! :morenutes: :bravo: :Namaste:

I am sure I am not the only one that would have had that question. That is some really great advise and was exactly what I was thinking. It was like you read my mind when you added the part about the dolomite lime you had in your moms. I have to same thing currently with my soiless medium. I truly appreciate your thorough response :thumb:

GREAT brewer setup. Mine is similar, but I use a 20gal bin. I also use panty hose, but now certainly switch over to a paint strainer mesh! ~ thank you for that tip!

One question/observation. I know you add the yucca at the end of the brew, but could you also use organic blackstrap molasses as well?

Your plants look amazing and I can only hope I get to that point as well. :high-five: I won't be doing a SOG anytime soon, but I am going to grow some trees if at all possible.

+reps for everything you have documented and helped me with!

:thanks: and :peace: Brotha!

Re: Vapedogg223's Got a Brand New Bag! All Organic, High Brix, Nirvana Ice, 49 Plant

Great journal Vape, subbed, researched the Air Pots after seeing Old Med man grow with them and I am a believer too. I will definitely be shelling out the money for some of those next time I do soil. Also thank you very much for pointing us to the Bonsai link, our state has a size limit for seedlings and I was planning to give it a try and see if it could be done. Now I know it is possible and have a great tutorial to go back on. Love your ventilation system also. I am remodeling my room and have been thinking about how I'm going to do the vents for weeks now, after seeing how you incorperated the carbon filter and your light you saved me from cutting another 2 holes. sorry if I missed this but I didn't see anything on your intake. Do you just have a couple of passive vents low on one of the room walls?

:thanks: bro! I'm still learning, but so far it seems you don't have to add much in the way of manures/guanos with high Brix. I know when DocBud had his super soil tested, it had something like 10 times the recommended energy...so you might want to add them cautiously, but I think you'll be very happy!

very nice tea brewer i have a oxygen concentrator, when i bubble the organic nutes overnight its pure 02 at 6 lpm talk about biologically active!! lol you can feel the microbes in the air in that room, and the aroma is far stronger than before i used the concentrator, ! plants look awesome:thumb:

:thanks:

That sounds great! I imagine brewing overnight would be like me brewing for 24+ hours! :thumb:

:thanks:

I thought those bonsai mom/cloning techniques were a great resource...I'm glad found it valuable too!

I don't have any fresh air intakes per say. Under the panda film is just bare stud walls on three sides. The last side is a divider. The remainder of the room has my vegging closet, and shelving used to store my grow supplies, and also has open stud walls. The house is over 100 years old, and was constructed with each stud bay open to the attic. The panda film is only stapled up on the wall, so there's enough fresh air that comes in around the panda film, but it restricts it enough that my fan maintains negative pressure as long as the tarp zipper door is zipped up.

If I had actual walls in the room, I would need some kind of passive vent at a minimum...and would probably prefer a second fan pushing in fresh air through a HEPA filter.

My new room will be sealed, fully climate controlled, and will have CO2 enrichment. Air will be brought from outside to cool the hood, and vented back out.

Soon...very soon!

:thanks: bro!

I don't think blackstrap molasses could really be used as a replacement for the Yucca...although it does contain a lot of sugar, the main reason we are adding it is because of the saponins, which are supposed to change the way soil holds water, and also act as a wetting agent for the foliar feedings.

With EWC tea you would add molasses at the start of the brew for carbs and trace minerals...the Nature's Own Microbe Tea Soil Life and Activator contains powdered molasses for that reason.

If you didn't have any Yucca you could add some molasses as a food source for the micro organisms, but you wouldn't get any saponins, or the benefits associated with them.

Trees? I like trees! :)

You are very welcome...I'm glad I could help!

Re: Vapedogg223's Got a Brand New Bag! All Organic, High Brix, Nirvana Ice, 49 Plant

Sweet. Maybe we'll get to see the before and after GLR on the mother plants? That would be great for weekly update.

Well...I don't want to get too involved with my moms here, only because there's enough going on with them, that they could have their own journal...however, since you asked, I guess it's the least I can do. :)

These were taken after one day of the GLR. I guess I can't show pics without telling you what you are looking at...the only problem is they are in no particular order, but here goes...

There are 6 plants here, all of them first generation clones. The one in the back on the left is a Super Lemon Haze, the one in front on the right is a Dutch Passion Blueberry, the other 4 are Ice.
CIMG36151.jpg

There are 9 plants here, the three large ones are from seed. The one in back on the left is Ice, the back one on the right is Dutch Passion Blueberry, and the one in front of that is a Super Lemon Haze. The 6 small ones are all 2nd generation Nirvana White Widow clones.
CIMG36201.jpg

The White Widow clones are the newest, and were the last ones to use my old soil mix...you can see they are still having some issues...but all of my moms looked worse than that not long ago!

And these last 6 are all 1st generation clones. Starting in the back from left to right, they are: Blueberry, Super Lemon Haze, Ice, Buluberry, Ice, and Super Lemon Haze.
CIMG36251.jpg

Edit: Just for fun...here's the pic of the same plants, right after they were root pruned 2 weeks ago: Moms 2 Weeks Earlier

Re: Vapedogg223's Got a Brand New Bag! All Organic, High Brix, Nirvana Ice, 49 Plant

Thanks for the pics Vape! The GLR will blow them up even more a week later. Most of your mother plants are like trees looks so ancient with the thick stem! It's fun to take a step away from flowering once awhile and look back where the clones came from.

Looking forward to see how GLR works for you. I do miss that crazy photoperiod. Glad I had the time with it knowing it works well, and is happy to see more are adopting this cycle as their own. When taking clones from these GLR mothers will you want to try diminishing cycle on them for the next flowering session?
